Online Event

In the bustling economy of BlueChips, you are a commoner who

is starting their journey through the world of managing personal
finances at the age of 24, with the aim of becoming the richest
citizen of the state by the age of 60. Already having some
PayDa (which is the Bluechips currency) in your hand at the start
of this journey, you need to evaluate alternatives pertaining to
the major life decisions, investment options, test your risk
appetite and knowledge.
Rules

At the start of the game, players are given 2,50,000 PayDa as

capital and the same amount as debt to start off with; making it a
total of 5,00,000PayDa.
Journeymen have to maximize their net worth. Participants can use
this money to avail the necessities of life such as accommodation,
mode of transportation etc., and also invest in financial products.
There are 3 rounds in 24 till age 36, age 36 till 48 and 48 till age 60.
Debt Treatment

Journeymen may pay debt at whichever time of the game as they

find suitable. They may, however, not subscribe for more debt.
Interest compounds on debt at 10% per round.
For example –If you don’t repay debt in any of the rounds, your
debt obligation at the end of round 1 will be 275,000 PayDa, at the
end of Round 2 will be 302,500 and at the end of Round 3 will be
332,750. This will then be adjusted for in the criterion of winning
(mentioned later).

Job

Every Journeyman has a job which pays a salary of 40,000 PayDa,

which will be given at the end of rounds 1, 2 and 3, (i.e. when the
Journeymen turn 36, 48 and 60 respectively).
EDUCATION

At every point in your life, there is never a lack of opportunity to

increase your skill sets and knowledge via education: whether it be
normal MBAs in your 20s to special training programmes during your 30s
to leadership programmes duringyour 40s.
Education never fails to enhance your value in the market, but the one
thing acting against it is the supply of skilled workforce, and that is what
you’re up against in this part of the game. You can choose to have
education in each of the rounds, and your salary, as opposed to 40000
PayDas for each round, will now be calculated as:
[(N-x/N)*35000]+45000
Where N =Total no. of participants with a job and
x =No. of participants who have opted for education among them The
cost of education is 20000PayDas.
BUSINESS

All participants have an option to leave their current jobs and start their own
business. The cost of starting a business is 100,000 PayDas. This option is available
to the participants only in the first round.
The profit earned from business will be calculated as follows: Profit= 162,500 –
((B/N)*58000)
Here, B= No. of participants opting for a Business N= Total no. of participants
Suppose, there are 200 participants and 100 of them opt for a business. So, the
profit for people starting their business will be: Profit= 162500 –((100/200)*58000)=
133500.
This amount of profit remains constant through all the 3 rounds. The participants
starting a business will not receive any amount of salary. Also, this amount of
profit remains unaffected whether the participant takes education or not.
Lastly, the participants starting their business will receive 5 STATUSPOINTSaswell.
Investing in Equity

• Participant can invest in the equity based upon the recent

market news followed by the current market price of the
equity.
• The final value of portfolio of the participant will be added
to the wealth of a candidate.
• LTCG will be charged @ of 10% on any securities sold.

STATUS POINTS

Status points are a form of premium that Journeymen find in life for
consuming a more useful/elite product.
Such a premium is added to the cash in hand of a Journeyman
individually, for every round, AFTER the round ends.
The cash reward of Status Points in the game can be quantified with the
following formula-
(Your status points divided by average Status points of all Journeymen
in game) multiplied by (Average cash balance available with the
participants divided by 4).
For example –In Round 2, you have invested in 30 Status points. The
average investment in status points is 39 points. Also, the fellow
Journeymen have an average cash balance of 200,000 Paydas at the
end of the round, then the reward which you get for investing in status
points is =30/39 *200,000/4
Status points fetch Journeymen cash at the end of a round, which is
equal in magnitude to the mentioned formula for its calculation. This
cash can be used for any purposes in the following rounds.
While calculating the cash reward for status points, ONLY the status
points for THAT current round are considered. Any status points from
previous rounds are not carried forward.
The idle cash in hand here is the average amount of investible cash
which a team can use to buy securities after making all the other
expenditure choices in the round.
Journeymen may RETAIN existing accommodation or transport
means, which involve no further cost. They may, alternatively
CHANGE the means they purchased in Round1 (or Round2).
Once transports are bought, these means may be resold at a
depreciated value of 60% of the original, irrespective of the
round number. New transports have to be bought at the original
value.
For example, “Y” purchased a Sedan at Age 24, and wants to
change to a 2 wheeler at age 36. Thus Y, for this change, will end
up paying 25,000 Paydas for the 2 wheeler, and will get back
1,00,000*0.6 PayDas for the Sedan which he owned previously.
BONUS OR BLUNDER?

Journeymen will be asked 1 question in each of the 3 rounds,

answering this will fetch them a bonus of 20,000 PayDas.
However, if they fail, they will lose 20,000 PayDas in a blunder.
To avoid this loss an insurance may be taken in the first round only,
costing a one time 10,000 to protect Journeymen from the loss of
any blunders in all the 3 rounds. The Journeymen may still reap the
benefits of bonuses.
Journeymen should remember, in case of no insurance, to keep an
idle cash balance of 20,000 Paydas at the end of a round for
adjusting for a probable blunder.
Winning Criteria

Winner will be adjudged the winner, who completes his 60th year as
the richest man.
For quantifying wealth, the following formula is used –
[Cash in hand at the end of the game] –[Total Outstanding Debt] +
(Market Valueof current accommodation) +0.8*(cost of current
means of transport) +[ENDvalue ofsecurities]
Any unsold securities will be automatically valued at the end of the
third round.
Grounds of Disqualification

Journeymen can be disqualified if:

Their cash balance including cash balance earnings and special
question earnings (positive, negative, or nil) is negative (Note that
this is excluding the SPearnings)
They sell more of any security they hold (Short Selling not allowed)
At any point in the game they do not own either of necessities
(accommodation or transportationor both)
They repay more debt than they own.
They do a job as well as start a business.
