FLANGES

What is a Flange ?

• flange is a method of connecting pipes,

valves, pumps and other equipment to form a
piping system.
• Flanged joints are made by bolting together
two flanges with a gasket between them to
provide a seal.
• It provides easy access for cleaning,
inspection or modification.
TYPES OF FLANGES
Common types of flanges:

• Welding Neck Flange

• Slip On Flange
• Socket Weld Flange
• Lap Joint Flange
• Threaded Flange
• Blind Flange
TYPES OF FLANGES
Special Flanges :

• Orifice Flanges
• Long Welding Neck Flanges
• Weldoflange / Nipoflange
• Expander Flange
• Reducing Flange

Lap Joint Flange
A pipe is usually welded to the Stub End and the Lap
Joint pipe flange is free to rotate around the stub end. The
benefit of this is that there will not be any issues with bolt hole
alignment. Lap Joint pipe flanges are often used for applications
that require frequent dismantling.

Blind Flange
A Blind flange is round plate which has all of the
relevant boltholes but no center hole, and because of
this feature this flange is used to close off the ends of a
piping systems and pressure vessel openings.
Orifice Flanges

Orifice Flanges are used with orifice meters for

the purpose of measuring the flow rate of either
liquids or gases in the respective pipeline
Long Welding Neck Flanges
Expander Flange
A expander flange is similar to a weld neck flange but with
the hub expanding to a larger size
Reducing Flange

Reducing flanges are designed for when there is a

change in the pipe size.
Weldoflange / Nipoflange

• The Weldoflange and Nipoflange is a combination of

a Welding Neck flange and a supposedly Weldolet or
Nipolet.
