A. Introduction –

- To introduce the lesson, show the students the Parts of Your Mouth PowerPoint.

B. Development –

- Go through each slide of the PowerPoint.

- Explain to students that the lips have muscles that can tell if you are happy or sad.
- Lips let air into your mouth for breathing.
- Lips keep food in your mouth while chewing.
- Lips keep your teeth in their proper positions.
- Explain to students that teeth help with chewing food.
- Teeth also give your face its shape.
- Teeth help pronounce certain sounds.
- Example: /th/
- Explain to students that gums surround your teeth and help keep the teeth in place.
- Explain to the students that a tongue helps with many different things.
- Tongues help with speaking, chewing, swallowing, and tasting food.
- Explain to students that the little bumps on our tongue are actually organs that help telling which foods
are sweet, sour, or salty.
- After finishing the PowerPoint, inform students to take out their iPads.
- "I want you all to open up the camera app."
- Demonstrate where the app is.
- Once all the students are on the camera app, tell them to turn on the front facing camera.
- Demonstrate where the button is to turn it to front facing.
- "I am going to ask you to show me a picture of a certain part of your mouth that we just learned about.
When I say the part of your mouth, take a picture of it and it will save. We are going to go through all of
the parts of the mouth so make sure you are paying attention and taking the pictures at the right times."
- "Show me a picture of your lips."
- "Show me a picture of your teeth."
- "Show me a picture of your gums."
- "Show me a picture of your tongue."
- "Give me a thumbs up if you have taken all of your pictures."
- "Now, I want you to go to your collage app."
- Demonstrate where the app is and what it looks like.
- Inform students that they will be placing the pictures they have taken of the parts of their mouth into the
collage.
- "Who can tell me how many pictures we have taken of the parts of our mouths?"
- Answer: 4
- "We took 4 different pictures. That means for the collage we pick, there should be 4 boxes. There has to
be 4 boxes so that we can insert all of the pictures we took."
- Demonstrate how to add pictures into the collage.
- Walk around and make sure students are inserting the pictures correctly.
- Once the students have completed their collages, inform them that they have to type on each picture to
tell what that picture is.
- Students will have to type "gums, teeth, tongue, lips" on the correct pictures.
- Write the words on the board and go over what each word is.
- Have students match the words to their pictures.
- Walk around and observe students.
- Have students save their collages when they are finished.

C. Closure –

- To close the lesson, have students volunteer to come to the front of the class and show their collages to
the students.
- Have students point out which picture shows which part of their mouth.

D. Accommodations / Differentiation -

- Instead of taking pictures of parts of their mouth, pass out a worksheet that shows a mouth with each
part.
- Students can color the different parts of the mouth to show what each part is.
- For example, the directions would say:
- "Color the lips red, the teeth white, the gums pink, the tongue purple"
- This will show that the students can correctly identify the different parts of the mouth.

E. Assessment/Evaluation plan
1. Formative:
- The students will be assessed through collection of the collage the
students made using their iPads.
- The collage will show if the students were able to identify the
different parts of their mouths.
- The collage will show if the students correctly wrote the names of
the different parts of their mouths using the iPads.
2. Summative: No summative
