Gpo: Investigate the world
Are we all equal?

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they

are endowed by the Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life,

Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The Declaration of Independence states the

principles on which our government, and our identity as Americans are based on. Some

Americans have and have not lived up to the American Ideals.

Equality, If we’re all so “equal” then shouldn’t we all get treated the same?

People are not equal. People who were born in America have a higher rate in getting a

job than those who weren’t born here. For example if a hispanic person and the

American person applied for the same job using the same resume, exact same

personality, and qualifications. The American would still get the job because of the

colored of his skin. Also it is scientifically proven that 80% lead actors, Directors, writers,

models, are white. Even if the roll is required for an Asian, Hispanic, African American,

any foreign character. They would much rather hire a white actor to play the character

instead of hiring someone of the real ethnicity.

Don’t know why but America had so much freedom before, what changed

everything? Immigrants don’t have the freedom or ability to go certain places because

of the borders. If we really were free then shouldn’t we be allowed to go from place to

place without needing certain qualifications? Can we just be seen like kind normal

people instead stereotypical drug sneaking, job stealing, animals? America is seen as
such a wonderland, when in reality we have the same kind of issues any other country

has. “Migrant mother” is a photo of a women with 2 children who suffer of poverty in

1930’s. Millions of others followed the same faith as her. I’m happy to say that times

have changed and poverty has grown smaller since the 1930’s. However we still need a

lot of work to do.

Everyone should have the opportunity to do things. People should have the have

the freedom to express themselves, go to college, vote, and get a license. Back in the

1960s some American youth had a very free-spirit attitude. People expressed

themselves with their clothing, music, and colors. The great thing about America is that

it gives you so many opportunities to do things, however it may not be approved by

society. Even though some things have gotten better we are still having issues for

example not long ago they finally gave the opportunity for people of the same gender to

get married. Police arresting people because of the color of their skin or by the way they

are dressed. Police beatings, shooting, murders happening at least once a week due to

the “misjudgment” of them carrying a “weapon” or even “posing a threat”.

All Americans are different, some live up to the American Ideals and some don’t.

We say we have liberty, opportunities and equality; but do we really? In my opinion I

would have to disagree because if we really are equal why do we have such a big

disadvantage on getting a job by the color of our skin. If we really have liberty then why

aren’t we allowed certain places, why do we need documents to cross the border, why

do we even need a border? America gives you so much opportunities yet society

doesn’t approve them. Still, things have gotten better since many years ago. However,

we have a lot of work to do.
