and how to get the best experience from your purchase.

PACKAGE FILE NAMES

All filenames (mp3, mp4, pdf, powertab) follow a clear pattern of:

Package Name, followed by Track/Lick name.

For instance “cs1_arcticroll.mp3” is the track ‘Arctic Roll’ from Guthrie Govan’s Contemporary
Series 1.

For the various types of backing tracks, notation and video, there is extra information...

cs1_arcticroll_jt.mp3 = the jamtrack

cs1_arcticroll_vid.mp4 = the video
cs1_arcticroll_tab.pdf = the tab, in PDF format
cs1_arcticroll_tab.ptb = the tab, in Powertab format

Some packages have both _jt.mp3 and _sjt.mp3 files. The ‘sjt’ file is the backing track from the
solo, in case you just want to learn the solo specifically over the backing track the artist played
on. The ‘jt’ is the extended jamtrack for you to jam over, creating your own lines, as well as
implementing ideas you have learnt from the artist.

HOW TO USE THE AUDIO/VIDEO FILES

For best results, load all of the audio files into an mp3 player such as iTunes or Winamp. That
way, you’ll see all of the artist/album/track information from the ID3 tags, which look a lot better
than the filenames!

If you’ve bought a package with videos, those are the files ending in “.mp4”, and they’ll play in
iTunes, Quicktime, VLC or Windows Media Player. For more information, check out the ‘Help’
section on our website.

HOW TO READ THE TAB/NOTATION

All of our Tab transcriptions and lesson notes are in PDF format. This universal format can be
viewed in Acrobat Reader (Mac/PC/Linux) or Preview (Mac only).

Most of our Tabs are also in Powertab (.ptb) format. The Powertab Editor program (http://www.
power-tab.net/guitar.php) is an open source free program that is only available for

Windows, but it has a MIDI playback facility so you can play the notes (with a synthesizer
sound) and you can adjust the tempo for more effective practising.

Mac users can open the Powertab files adequately with Tuxguitar (http://tuxguitar.herac.
com.ar/). If you prefer to use Guitar Pro (on PC or Mac) this program can very easily import
Powertab files into .gp5 format.
