Fitting and Setting Instructions for

HP-A 50 Top Weighting Arm

Fitting:

Before setting the top weighting arms, center the bot-

tom aprons on the knurls of the middle bottom rollers.
Then correct the position of the top weighting arms
with top rollers, cradles and aprons so that the top
aprons and bottom aprons coincide.

When setting the HP-A 50 top weighting arm, make

sure that the fixing screw () on the clamp bracket,
which serves to fix the top arm, is not covered by the
weighting unit of the back top roller. It must be acces-
sible until the top weighting arm is fixed.

Setting Sequence

. Set the weighting pressure on all top weighting

arms.
2. Set the height on all top weighting arms.
3. Set the distances h’ and v’ (Fig. ) of the back,
middle and front top rollers at one top arm (master
top arm) according to the values shown in the
SUESSEN setting chart.
4. Transfer the setting of the top rollers of the master
top arm to the gauge.
Fig. 3 5. Transfer the setting of the gauge to the remaining
top weighting arms.

3 3 3 . Set the Weighting Pressure on
All Top Rollers

Three levels of weighting pressure are possible

(Fig. 4 / Fig. 5).

weighting units while they are mounted in the top

π Turn the cam to set the required pressure.

The indicator (3) on the adjusting cap shows the

actual setting.
(Fig.  / Fig. 4).

To set the pressure on the back top weighting unit

remove it from the top weighting arm.
Weighting pressure
low medium high The weighting pressure is set by SUESSEN at the
standard ”I” (low weighting pressure).
Fig. 5
Any alternative weighting pressure must be reset.

Use:
– the spanner (4 or 5)
– the hexagon key (2)

π Unload the top weighting arm.

π Use the spanner (4 or 5) to loosen the screw (6) of
the back weighting unit.
π Remove the weighting unit.
π Turn the cam by means of the hexagon key (2) to
set the required pressure.
π The cam position shows the set pressure (Fig. 5).
π Mount the weighting unit in the same position.
π Check the correct position by means of the top
roller gauge (see chapter 4).
π Load the top weighting arm.

Fig. 6

6
2. Set the Height on all Top Weighting Arms

For setting the height, all top arms must be loaded

and all top rollers and cradles must coincide with the
relevant bottom rollers.

For machines with EliteQCompactSet:

π When the top arm is open, remove the EliTop from

the top arm.
π Remove one top roller from the EliTop and install it
at the front of the top weighting arm.
Fig. 7 π Load the top arm again.

Set the top weighting arm by means of the setting

screw (7) on the clamp bracket so that it is parallel to
the drafting plane (Fig.6).

Use:
– the gauge (8)
– the torque wrench (9)
– the screw driver (0)

π Tighten the setting screw (7) on the clamp bracket

until the top weighting arm is slightly pre-tensio-
Fig. 8 ned.
π Unload the top weighting arm and continue tighte-
ning the setting screw.
π Load the top weighting arm.
π Use the gauge to check the height of the top
weighting arm (Figs. 7 and 8).
π Repeat this procedure until the position of the top
weighting arms is slightly too low. The result is a
gap between the underside of the top arm body
and the rear end of the gauge (Fig. 7).

When tightening the fixing screw () on the clamp

bracket, the top arm rises slightly, so that the fixed top
weighting arms are in the correct position only after
tightening.
π After setting all the top weighting arms of the
machine, tighten the fixing screws of the top weigh-
ting arms with 2.5 Nm.
π After tightening the fixing screws check the height
of the top weighting arms and correct it, if neces-
sary.

The height of the top weighting arms is correct, when

the gauge rests on the underside of the top arm
body, as shown in Fig. 8.

7
3. Set the Distances of the Top Rollers
on the Master Top Arm

Use:
– the spanners (4 or 5)
– the caliper gauge
π The master top arm must be loaded. Use spanners
(4 or 5) to loosen the screws (6) of the weighting
units to be set approximately /4 turn.
π Use the caliper gauge to set the top roller distan-
ces according to the values shown in the
SUESSEN setting chart.
π Tighten the screws (6).

4. Transfer the Setting of the Top Rollers of the

Master Top Arm to the Gauge

Use:
– the gauge ()
Fig. 9 – the key (4)
π Remove top aprons with cradle from the middle
11 12 13 top roller.
π Loosen fixing screws (2) of gauge () with key
(4).
π Place the gauge on the closed top arm and push
stop elements (3) onto the top roller arbors
(Fig.0).
π Tighten the fixing screws (2).
The top roller setting has been transferred to the
gauge.

5. Transfer the Setting of the Gauge to all other

Top Weighting Arms

π Unload the top weighting arm.

Fig. 0 π Remove top aprons with cradle from the middle
top roller.

s
π Use spanners (4 or 5) to loosen the screws (6) of
the weighting units approximately /4 turn.
π Place gauge () on the open top arm and push
the top rollers into the stop elements (3).
π Close the top arm and tighten screws (6).
π Remove the gauge with the top arm being closed.
