LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. To be knowledgeable about common disease processes in surgery and their clinical presentations
2. To identify proper diagnostic tests specific for surgical cases and correct interpretation of results in
patients with surgical cases.
3. To be knowledgeable in the approach of surgical and medical management of common surgical
cases.
4. To be aware of the basic organizational set-up of the Philippine General Hospital system and
Surgery Department.
5. To further improve on focused clinical history-taking and physical examination skills on patients
with Surgical cases.
6. To further develop skills in surgery based on sound reasoning using all the tools of evidence-based
medicine.
7. To recognize immediate signs of complications and its corresponding interventions of surgical
cases.
8. To further develop the skill of communicating effectively with physicians and other health
professionals to improve patient safety and quality of care
9. To apply principles of autonomy, beneficence, and justice, and work to resolve ethical dilemmas
as they arise in clinical practice.
10. To demonstrate honesty, integrity, reliability, responsibility, and confidentiality in all interactions
with patients, families, and colleagues.
