As all people know living in a city has been a way of progressing because if we look back
in (our) grandparent’s days we would remember (*) that lots of people lived in the
countryside, and they didn’t have neither facilities nor (**)services to be used.
Nowadays people are changing their mind so they are going back to live in cottages as
they are (were) used to doing (in the past).
Obviously, cities have many advantages and all kind of services like means of transport,
facilities for education or health. Also, there are places where to enjoy yourself such as
parks, libraries, museums, cinemas and shops.
Furthermore, you feel saver (safer) living in the cities due to the security which (not
necessary) we have at our disposal like police and fireman (firemen)
However, life in the cities also has disadvantages almost all with regards to both pollution
and traffic.
Above all, today’s pollution is one of the most serious worries people have because of the
damage it causes to the human being.
Traffic may become uncomfortable for both as drivers as pedestrians, as a driver when you
need to go to work quickly and you bump into queues at rush hours and as a pedestrian
because of noise pollution.
In spite of the disadvantages cities have, If (if) I had to choose between living in a city or in
the countryside, I would choose the first option.
NOTAS:
(*) El alumno aquí ha intentado hacer una conditional, pero no es correcto, ya que ha
1/3
mezclado la primera conditional con la segunda. Lo correcto es:
– They didn’t have either facilities or services = either… or en positivo porque el verbo lo
tenemos negativo (didn’t have).
– They had neither facilities nor services = neither … nor… en negativo porque el verbo lo
tenemos positivo (had)
– Passive: to be used
– Omission del artículo determinado the cuando se habla en general: people, traffic, cities
– Omission del pronombre relativo en casos en los que no es necesario: because of the
damage which/that it causes…
– Connectors: nowadays, furthermore, however, due to, because of, in spite of, obviously,
such as
Como veis, el alumno trata de utilizar estructuras gramaticales de alto nivel, lo cual se
valora muy positivamente.
