I NTRODUCTION TO OUR IDEA

Australian E-sport Masters is a new organisation soon to be operating within Australia dealing with
the current lack of unity between many of the games played professionally and casually
throughout Australia. This website has been initially started by a number of members of various
gaming communities we have made it our mission to provide a more robust and rounded gaming
community. Our team is made up of volunteers striving to produce the greatest thing the
Australian Gaming scene has witnessed. This team has grown over the recent months with many
new members yet to come. We have all done our role in organizing the website, relationships with
other gamers, and securing a foundation for our launch.

We will bring to the gaming community what it dearly lacks in Australia; a single website with
multiple platforms separating the gamers needs based on game choices subsequently enabling a
greater focus towards their own interests.

This separation is the key to provide a greater atmosphere; by bringing communities together from
many gaming sites it will enable a greater moderation and organisation of the competitions played
and focused on within the communities. Our initial release is based on the three following games:

• Counter Strike: Source

• Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
• Starcraft 2

We have chosen popular gaming titles with consistent competitions over the years or show great
promise as in Starcraft 2 with communities that are in need of a change from the current split
communities over the web being unable to provide a sound structure to their users.

These games are not the only games to be added, more games will be introduced and discussed on
the website but these three games are some of the most prominent multiplayer competition based
games at the moment but more games will be added to the website over the months following the
initial launch.

Games to be added after the launch include:

• BattleField Bad Company 2 • Heroes of Newerth

• World of Warcraft • Team Fortress 2
• Call of Duty: Black Ops • Companies of Heroes
• Left 4 Dead • League of Legends
• Medal of Honor

A USTRALIAN E SPORTS M ASTERS GOALS

Australian Esports Masters
Our main priority goals at the moment are focused on the initial launch and the first few months
after our launch. The three initial Esports Masters goals for the initial launch are;

1. Successful Launch into the industry

2. Introduce LAN events early next year
3. Progress in order to become the largest Australian Esports website

Goal 1 relates to only our initial launch of the website and the following week thereafter. We are
pushing for a pre-Christmas release for the smoothest launch possible. This launch is dependent on
the continued volunteer work of all the current members of staff and the ease to which the
communities will greet and join us.

Goal 2 is important in creating our image within the various communities; these LAN’s will be
aimed to include us, as a management team, with many of the gamers willing to LAN throughout
the nation. Our goal as a host is to encourage our community to attend these events as often as
possible.

Goal 3 is our most important goal to ensure and secure the main part of this specific gaming
industry. The other two goals will be crucial in ensuring that this goal is achieved. In order to
become the largest community for selected games we will need the continued support of all of our
current and future staff.

W HAT OUR TEAM IS DOING TO SUPPORT THIS

Our team is made up of all 100% volunteered work to ensure that this solid idea takes off. All of
our members of the admin team are highly motivated to ensure this happens. Our team is situated
all over Australia, from the far west to the eastern coast. This spread will allow our managerial
team to attend many of the events that will be organized across Australia to secure our last two
goals.

Our team has helped to build this platform from complete scratch and we all appreciate each
other’s work greatly. We all want this to succeed as we currently see a great flaw in the current
separation of the various communities that we wish to address.

With the current volunteer work we are glad to see that all of our goals are on track as we have
planned in the development of the website over the past couple of months.

H OW WE ARE GOING TO PROCEED INTO THE GAMING
COMMUNITIES

T HE I NITIAL P LAN

As a team we are going to introduce our new idea to as many people as possible across the various
gaming communities. This will help to shape the future for us, with deals and sponsorships being
organised to deal with the large pressure going to be received about organizing competitions,
which we hope will proceed smoothly over the first few months. The first few months are going to
be the most vital as the initial response will shape our community.

T HE M EDIUM TO L ONG -T ERM P LAN

After these first few months we will be introducing a wider assortment of games to the website,
based upon multiplayer flexibility and popularity. These games will help to greatly build upon our
reputation while maintaining the same philosophy of putting the user first. By introducing more
games our goal is to secure the spot as Australia’s leading esports website for a variety of titles
that have many followers in Australia.

As seen the website is crisp in its portrayal, professionally coded and intends to make the most
user friendly experience to the user available. The user is our main priority as over the years it has
been our experience as users that have shaped our belief that this site will be a great addition to
the many segmented communities on the web.

The website will be a community platform based website. Users will have the option of choosing
(initially) up to any four games that they play and this will control what exactly they are able to
access on the forums. Users then have the option to add more games by contacting the staff if
need be. This separation is important to keep the different gamers that have the same interest to
their own forums, reducing the chance of wrongdoers within the forums and keeping all topics
specific to one issue.

M ULTI - COLOR WEBS ITE CHOICE S YSTEM

Users have the option of choosing an alternative main color for the website to replace the default
green. The colors offered are pink, orange, purple, red and blue. This will allow the end user to
choose the color that they prefer to enable a happier community.

These forums are being custom coded to provide a unique view to the user rather than using a pre-
used template that offers little freedom in its inception to the website.

The forums are not the only part of the website that will be presented to people relevant to their
game choices, the main pages displaying content will be determined again by the choices of
platforms the user decides to use. For example if a user chooses only Battlefield: Bad Company 2
as their game, only the news relevant to this game will be displayed on their home page.

W HAT DOES THIS MEAN ?

Custom coded websites and being a community based platform will allow frequent changes to the
website to benefit the community and allow us to respond to the issues that we may be faced with
as the website expands. This flexibility will enable us to stay ahead of the competition to maintain
our goals and grow where others have failed to do so.

W HAT EXACTLY IS A COMMUNITY PLATFORM ?

The most important idea about the website is the introduction of the unique Community Platform.
Thought of by Wesley Collier, the man pushing for this website, has opened up a whole new
degree of elasticity to the organisation.

F IGURE 4 O UTLINING T HE P LATFORM S ELECTION A REA

This platform is made up of a few key areas:

• Firstly a main platform (homepage) will be used to display relevant news and
information to the user making it easier to navigate to the latest issues shrouding their
selected games.
• Secondly
o there is a main forum where the entire community can come together and discuss
things anything not related to a certain game which everyone can see and post in;
and
o specific forums where only people who have chosen the specific game can access
and post in
• Thirdly it is important to understand that each and every game holds its own platform
within the website. This means that the user is able to navigate between their selected
game platforms to access their relative information easily. This will be done by a drop
down selection tool found directly above the Aus Esports Masters main banner on the
right hand side.

This community platform enables many websites to be brought into one great website and
community.

A S MALL E XAMPLE T O ILLUSTRATE THE IDEA

As more games are introduced to the website this platform will become a great asset to the users.
To illustrate this it is easy to use a couple of well known games:

If a user has elected to use Starcraft 2 and the Call of Duty series then this would restrict their
access to:

• the homepage platform

• SC2 platform &
• COD platforms

However, this user will not be able to access the Counter Strike community through their own
Community Platform navigation tab. They will however be able navigate to these platforms outside
of the community platform tab, but they will not be able to interact with the users on platforms
that they have not selected.

This will make it easier to moderate, control and run competitions.

SO WHY CHOOSE A COMMUNITY PLATFORM ?

We have kept this secret from the general gamers in the hope to surprise and to show what
exactly can be achieved with some dedication. This is a unique idea and for this reason we want to
ensure that it stays that way. This layout offers the most flexibility and user friendly atmosphere
that we can put towards any community. By having many people gathering on one site we hope to
connect gamers from Australia to make one great community with an amazing atmosphere and we
feel strongly that this is a great way to execute this goal.

This is the best option we can exercise at this time, by separating the communities to a degree it
allows the overall community to be as one but have separate areas to visit depending on their
preferences. This design is used to bring together multiple communities while ensuring that they
are able to communicate to each other effectively and not on an extensive forums list.

W HY WILL THIS WORK ?

Every gamer has their own wants and needs from playing games, these feelings are usually
depicted into only a few games played at a high standard or played under competition. These
people do not want a multitude of other games thrown at them browsing general forums that they
would otherwise experience. Again this is the only option to bring together other large
communities under one roof so to speak, because without this notion the forums would be
overcrowded, impossible to navigate and lead to a huge resistance of the community to come
across to this new website.

A DMINISTRATION , M ODERATION & C OMPETITIONS

H OW WILL EVERYTHING BE ADMINISTERED ?

There will be a small team that will make sure that everything is running smoothly and that no one
person has too much power over what is happening. With an even spread of power we hope that
we can further move towards a greater website. The team at the moment is full of intuitive and
bright young people that will help each other to work towards a common goal and they all have an
interest in gaming which will make sure that they understand what the community needs and
wants.

W HAT NEEDS TO BE MODERATED ?

With such a large forum moderation is going to be a main issue that we will be watching closely,
and ensure that we have enough moderating staff to handle all of the posts each day to ensure a
fair, abuse-free environment and general flow of information between people. The original staff
will take part in the moderation to ensure a clean environment for the younger members of the
community as well as the more experienced and older users.

There will be various other areas of the website that will need to be moderated other than the
forums including files, event organizing, server reliability and competition management.

T HE RUNNING OF COMPETITIONS

So how will we run competitions under a new website?

What we plan to have is a lot more competitions than are currently on offer from other
communities within Australia, and to be organized more effectively ensuring that they are played
as is stated. We will have a select few moderators from each gaming community to ensure a
friendly, even and unbiased competition to be put forth.

Ladder Competitions will be run efficiently and effectively with greater input from the community
on exactly what they want to happen while ensuring that the top teams still are playing similar to
what is being played overseas. The aim of these competitions is to ensure a progressive increase in
the community’s level of enjoyment, understanding and dynamics of the games being played.
These competitions will be run over many weeks throughout the year ensuring competition year
round.

One Day Comps are perhaps the biggest talking point as it gives new players and teams the
opportunities to excel and become known, these will most likely be run prior to the ladder
competitions and help us to gauge where the teams should be situated for the upcoming ladder
competition.

8|P a g e
Australian Esports Masters
Weekly Comps are something we will push to implement over long holidays and times when the
community feels they are needed. They will consist of playing matches throughout one week,
usually at night times with prizes being drawn at the end to the winners in the various sections.
The aim of these competitions is to invite the community to play and enjoy a competitive week of
gaming at a time when no other competitions are on.

All of these competitions will be managed by a select group and they must strive to achieve a level
of competition, organisation and participation that will be accepted by the community as what
needed to be done.

A NTI - CHEAT A DMINISTRATION T EAM

One thing that riddles and interrupts the gaming communities in Australia is the sheer number of
accused cheaters. To deal with this we will be using a small team to review, analyse and make
decisions on who is cheating and how they should be dealt with. This is in addition to using extra
anti-cheat software from a dedicated provider. This anti-cheat will rely upon which game is being
played and who we can secure to cover the events. This work will most likely be down to the most
trusted, unbiased and well known members of the community.

P UBLIC R EVIEWS

Another interesting notion put forth is the use of allowing the community to publicly review any
content on the site, gaming or other relevant situations that they have encountered. This could be
from reviewing new hardware to reviewing a new game’s review to help the community to decide
how they feel on the matters.

This will require moderation to ensure a cohesive and grammatically sound piece of writing but
overall it will benefit the community greatly as it involves allowing people to have a voice and
opinion about matters and they can feel as though they are part of helping our community expand
and help others make decisions.
