Assignment title 3D Animation

Scenario

Temple design has been commissioned to develop a new series of 3D Animations for start-up screens
for gaming consoles due to be released in 2017. These consoles will be a PS4, Xbox One, Wii 2, PSP
2, Atari, Game Cube and Steam. For Temple Design to get the full go ahead with the contract a fully
working proof is required to be developed. As an employee of the Temple 3D design team you are
required to design and create a 3D animated start up screen for one console.

You will create a professional storyboard before you start developing your product. This will include
clear coloured and annotated drawings of your ideas, on your storyboards you need to consider
sound, timings and a 3D logo or object. You will use Maya 2016 to develop your product using
polygons and nurbs, the animation will run between 15 - 20 seconds and have a frame rate of 25
frames per second.

Task 1

You are required to complete one storyboarded idea. This concept will be developed for the console
of your choice and needs to be fully annotated, coloured in and have a professional appearance.
Before you start the development of your designs on Maya you need to present your final ideas to the
teacher for approval of development.

Task 2

You are required to create three A3 Mood boards documenting different start up screens for ALL
consoles, texture, text and effects. This is to allow you to research and view graphics to generate ideas
for your project.

Your Mood boards will be developed on Adobe Photoshop CC and will be created at A3 in size. Also
consider textures and colours that you will use in the development of your 3D Animation.
Task 3

Proposal

Your task is to develop a proposal for your 3D animation. This will be developed using Microsoft
Word and will be an in-depth document covering what target audience, graphics, house style, sounds
and features you will be using for your 3D animation.

You will need to include the following headings.

 Introduction

 Target audience

Identify the intended audience of the 3D animation, eg children, teenagers, parents. Decide the overall
impact on the audience, eg to inform, to shock, to amuse?

 Range of graphics materials to be used

Identify what materials the 3D animation will contain eg textures, colours, text, drawings and scans.

 Sound to be used

Identify what sounds or sound effects you are going to use on your map and what format they have to
be.

 What house style is to be used

Identify how you are going to style your 3D animation eg what colours, text and logos you will use
throughout

 Description of the 3D animation features used.

The content and presentation of the materials to be used.

 Ethical Considerations

It is very important to have a clear understanding of Copyright, Race, Gender, Religion,

Sexuality, Representation, Decency and Confidentiality when developing and designing any
3D product. In this section you need to discuss that you have considered each ethical consideration
and give a description of each.

Storyboarded concept
Task 4

You are required to create your designed 3D animated start up screen using Maya 2016, your
animation should run between 15 - 20 seconds and will be rendered at 640 x 480 pixels at near
professional quality. To hit the high end of the criteria sound will be added and you will be able to play
on multiple platforms.

You can use iMovie or Final Cut to add sound and special effects when you have completed your
animation using Maya 2017.

What to submit:
