CARECLEAN DEGREASER GP
Emulsifying cleaning agent for the removal of medium to heavy mineral oils and fats by
spraying and brushing.
Application
Cooling systems
Along with the usual lime deposits, traces of mineral oils are often found in cooling systems.
These oil and fat deposits hinder optimum removal of the hardness deposits when using acid
cleaners (e.g.Careclean F Descalex P). In such cases, it is recommended to use an emulsifying
cleaner before the acid cleaning, to remove these deposits. Careclean Degreaser GP is ideal in
these cases.
Spraying
Careclean Degreaser GP can be sprayed undiluted onto the components to be cleaned.
Tanks
Careclean Degreaser GP can be used for the removal of most mineral oils and fats in loading and
storage tanks.
Note: Objects subject to corrosion should not be rinsed with water; use in this case, for example,
Careclean ECS Quick Dry.
Cleaning of tanks
Prewash
Before cleaning with Careclean Degreaser GP it is recommended to prewash with hot water at
approximately 60o C, except for drying and semi-drying oils where a prewash with cold water
should be applied.
Spray method
Spray the tank with undiluted Careclean Degreaser GP until the walls are thoroughly dampened
and then let the product soak in for at least 30 minutes. Rinse each tank compartment for 45
minutes with water at 60oC.
For detailed instructions on tank cleaning, refer to the Marine Care Tank Cleaning Manual. A
range of support equipment is also available.

CARECLEAN QUICKSPLIT
A solvent based quick separating oil and grease remover suitable for use in conjunction
with oily water separators and where IMO rules are required.
* Based on aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents, selected non-ionic and anionic surfactants which are
biodegradable.
* Good cleaning properties and fresh odour.
* Its emulsion with water and oil breaks up within a very short period. Less than 15 ppm oil
remains in the water and therefore the product meets the requirements of IMO.
* Suitable for the removal of most mineral oils, fats, greases and preserving agents.
* Safe to use on all common metals, painted surfaces, epoxy and zinc-sillicated
coatings.
* Has the approval of major manufacturers for use in oil-water separators.
* It fulfils TS 6850-017, edition 4 of the German military force.
* High flashpoint.
Application:
General maintenance
Careclean Quicksplit is used to clean machinery, floor plates and bulkheads in engine rooms.
Tanks
Careclean Quicksplit can be sprayed undiluted as a spotcleaner in tankcleaning (Marpol
requirements).
General maintenance
For cleaning in engine rooms etc., Careclean Quicksplit is used undiluted. Dampen the surface
to be cleaned and let the product act for 5 - 60 minutes. Brush the surfaces occasionally and
finally rinse them thoroughly with water at 50 - 60o C. For heavier contamination we
recommend Careclean HD Split.
Tanks
To be used as a spotcleaner to decrease the amount of slops. Spray the surfaces to be cleaned until they
are thoroughly dampened with undiluted Careclean Quicksplit. Let the product act for 5-60 minutes,
then rinse thoroughly with water at 50 - 60o C.
For detailed instructions on tank cleaning, refer to the Marine Care Tank Cleaning Manual. A range of
support equipment is also available.
Immersion baths
Careclean Quicksplit is applied undiluted at ambient temperature or up to a maximum of 55o C in a
heated tank. Soak components for several hours, remove from the bath and rinse thoroughly with a
waterjet.
Practical hint
Where an oil-water separator is installed, collect the treated bilge water in the dirty water collecting
tank. After a reasonable separating time suck the bilge water from the bottom of the tank and discharge
overboard through the oil-water separator. This is the best way to keep within the IMO rule limits
(max. 15 ppm oil in the discharge overboard).
Note: The use of emulsifying products (old style degreasers) will affect the separating properties of
Careclean Quicksplit.
Properties
Clear yellow brown colored liquid. Mixture of aliphatic hydrocarbons and biodegradable surface
active agents. Non-emulsifiable in water.
The product is safe for use on all common metals.
For detailed information on safety and health, please refer to Material Safety Data Sheet and / or

CARECLEAN OSD ENVIRO
Application
Careclean OSD Enviro oil spill dispersant should be sprayed onto the oil slick using spraying
equipment connected to booms with spray nozzles supplied by a pump from storage tanks.
When using the product the sea surfaces should be agitated using breaker boards, boat
propellers, bow wave ect. to help disperse the oil. When dealing with small spills from vessels,
use hand spray pump or an eductor and fire hoses or monitor. This will mix the dispersant with
seawater, and agitating the sea will help break up the oil slick as well as applying the
dispersant. This technique has also proved valuable when dealing with small spills in ports and
harbors between ships side, wharfs and pilings, ect. or any area which has difficult access.
Technical Information
The effectiveness of the oil dispersant will vary depending on the state of the oil, i.e., its pour
point and viscosity at sea temperature and the time of weathering, evaporating of the lighter
fractions of oil and the formation of oil-in-water emulsions which will all quickly increase
viscosity and pour point and hence increase resistance to dispersion.
To be effective, it is essential to use Careclean OSD Enviro as early as possible in the cleanup
operation. We recommended users of oil dispersants to read the IMO publication ‘IMO/UNEP’
Guidelines on Oil Spill Dispersants Application and Environmental Considerations’. This book
gives more information on the application of dispersants. We would also like to point out that
the use of dispersants in many countries is governed by local authorities or Coast Guard and
permission to use the product must be sought.

CARECLEAN ECS SAFE
• Special degreasing agent for the removal of oil and grease from machines and motor parts,
transmissions, ball bearings, gear wheels, metal parts, electrical components, etc.
• Odorless.
• Contains no chlorinated hydrocarbons or other harmful chemicals.
• Does not emulsify in water - the polluted oil can be separated by means of an oil/water
separator.
• High flash point.
Application
Careclean ECS Safe can be applied with a brush or by spraying the parts to be cleaned. This product
can also be used by filling an immersion bath to clean extremely dirty parts. The high flash point and
the fact that it is practically odorless makes Careclean ECS Safe a pleasant and problem free product.
Immersion Baths
Careclean ECS Safe is used undiluted and unheated in immersion baths. Put the parts to be cleaned in
the bath and soak for several hours. Thereafter, take the parts out of the bath and spray off with a
forceful waterjet.
Attention: parts that need to be rust free and dry (such as electrical components) should not be sprayed
clean with water but with clean Careclean ECS Safe and afterwards should be blow-dried completely
because of fire risk if residues are left behind.
General Cleaning
For the cleaning of dirty parts and surfaces use Careclean ECS Safe undiluted. Moisten the parts to be
cleaned thoroughly with the product. Depending on the measure of dirt, soak the product for 5 to 60
minutes, brush in between. After this, rinse thoroughly with water.
Attention: parts that need to be rust free and dry (such as electrical components) should not be sprayed
clean with water, but with Careclean ECS Safe and afterwards should be blow dried completely to
avoid fire risk.
Attention
Cold cleaners should only be used in combination with oil/water separators.
To guarantee an optimal oil/water separation, cold cleaners should never be used with greater amounts
of emulsifying cleaners (e.g. of High Pressure Cleaners) if the waste is passing oil/water separators.

CARECLEAN ACC
For manual and "in service" cleaning of Diesel Engine charge air coolers.
Application
Immersion bath
Dependant on design, the cooler is flooded with Careclean ACC or immersed in a tank full of
product. The product should be heated to approx. 50°C and agitation provided with an air line.
After 2 hours, drain off and flush well with water, followed by drying with an air line.
Circulation method
Some designs of cooler can be circulated "in situ". In this case a pump tank and pipe system is
fitted permanently or connections are provided for connecting a temporary circuit. The system
should be filled with Careclean ACC and circulation carried out for 2 - 4 hours at a temperature of
upto 50°C.
After cleaning the cooler should be thoroughly flushed with fresh water and dried with an air line.
Note: Both cleaning methods benefit from heat of up to 50°C and cleaning times can be reduced
or extended dependant on temperature and degree of fouling.
Direct injection
Careclean ACC has the approval of the majority of major manufacturers for use either in their own
design of "in service" cleaning system or other recognised systems provided by suppliers.
Injection systems
Marine Care offer a range of newly developed easy to operate manual systems.
Regardless of the type of "in service" system used, Careclean ACC should be dosed at the ratio of 2
parts water added to 1 part product (in that order) and well mixed for immediate use.
If the emulsion is left standing for up to 5 minutes its composition will change and effectiveness
reduced. It is most important that 5 - 10 minutes after dosing the solution, injection with fresh
water only is repeated using double the total volume of the first solution to flush off the chemical
residual which contains the "solved" contamination. Failure to do this will result in a "sticky
cooler" which will foul very quickly.
Turbo blowers
The water washing of the air side of turbo blowers has been accepted for many years. Most
manufacturers provide nozzles and dosing pots to inject water into the volute casing after the inlet
filters. These systems can be utilised with a solution of Careclean ACC at the same ratio of 2 parts
water mixed into 1 part product and dosed via the water wash system.
Note: When cleaning turbo blowers "in service" follow the equipment manufacturers instructions
regarding engine load and/or blower revolutions during the procedure.
As with normal water washing, do not attempt to clean a badly fouled blower as resultant removal
of deposits could cause imbalance of the rotor.
The principle to follow is prevention not cure.
Injection systems
Marine Care can give advise on modifications to existing equipment or retrofit packages. For
further details refer to the equipment information sheet.
Properties
Light yellow coloured neutral fluids, which emulsify with water and are safe in contact with all
metals.

CARETAN CORROSION
Rust converter for use on rusted steel and sandblasted steel as pre-coating preparation.
Application
On all rusted steel surfaces before painting or repainting when preparation by sandblasting is a
problem, e.g. cargo holds, decks, hatch covers, superstructures, pipelines, winches, rails etc. It is
also used on sandblasted surfaces to prevent or passivate "flash rust". Beyond being particularly
suitable for use in the highly corrosive marine atmosphere it is indeed also suitable for use on
offshore oilrigs, in shipyards and refineries.
Caretan Corrosion is ready to use. 1 single thin application is sufficient. Apply brush, roller or
spray. 1 liter covers approx. 20 square meters. Reaction time is 3 hours and paint/coatings must be
applied sooner. If the rustconverter is applied in confined areas, reaction time may be somewhat
longer.
Caretan Corrosion is not a paint. Treated surfaces must be protected by suitable paint/coatings,
preferably within 48 hours after application of Caretan Corrosion. Equipment should be washed
and flushed in clean water use.

CARETREAT 1 EVAPORATOR
Neutral, liquid product for the prevention of scaling in sea water evaporators
Introduction
In the production of distilled water in seawater evaporators, there are many conditions which can
cause scaling. In the evaporator, the seawater is heated to the required temperature and is then
partially evaporated at atmospheric or low pressure; it then condenses and is collected as distillate.
Since, however, the seawater contains large quantities of salt in solution it is understandable that the
heating and evaporation will very rapidly lead to scaling of the heat transfer surfaces. The scale
deposits build up and lower plant efficiency by severely impairing the transfer of heat. This in turn
considerably reduces the output. Scaling is prevented by the use of Caretreat 1 Evaporator.
If the product is used as part of the Marine Care Water Treatment program, production is monitored
as part of a "Water Management" system which includes useful information on maximizing plant
efficiency.
Caretreat 1 Evaporator is diluted with seawater andfresh water and is continuously injected into the
evaporator. A dosage of 30 ml per ton of distillate is recommended for the prevention of scaling in
seawater evaporators. The total dosage of Caretreat 1 Evaporator to be used depends on the capacity
and the operating conditions of the evaporator. The product should be injected via the evaporator
inlet or the salt water supply line. The normal procedure is to use a dosing tank containing sufficient
ready diluted Caretreat 1 Evaporator for 24 hours continuous operation.
Note: For the gradual removal of existing scale deposits, at least twice the normal dose must be used.
Remove deposits of more than 2mm, with Careclean HD Descalex L.
Dosing systems
Marine Care can supply a gravity dosing system kit which includes a dosing tank, flow meter, pipes,
valves and all fittings.
Properties
Light brown colored, neutral liquids. Miscible with salt and fresh water in any proportion.
Odorless, non-flammable.
Contains no volatile components; in practical terms, non-toxic when ingested in a single dose.
Remains fully effectively up to 160o C.
Does not corrode stainless steel, carbon steel, copper alloys, glass rubber, plastics, painted surfaces,
aluminium and aluminium alloys.

A compact electronic dosing pump and tank unit is available from Marine Care for direct injection
to the cooling system. For further details refer to Marine Care equipment information.
Remarks
On new buildings or overhauled systems, follow engine manufacturer's advice in conjunction with
Marine Care. If changing to Caretreat 2 Diesel from nitrite borate based products of another make,
start dosing Marine Care product using Marine Care tests. Caretreat 2 Diesel will slowly remove
sludge and other residues during first month. This can result in slightly cloudy water which will
clarify after draining small quantities of water and as make up is added, leaving system extremely
clean. It is not necessary to drain existing coolant completely unless inspection has shown
excessive contamination. Marine Care can give expert advice on cleaning systems.
Properties
Caretreat 2 Diesel is a pale yellow liquid, completly soluble in water. It is based on nitrite and
borate in combination with specific inhibitors, organic dispersants and a pH buffer. Compatible
with anti-freeze products based on monoethylene glycol.

CARETREAT 3 BOILER
Advanced organic boiler water treatment to control ph, corrosion, scale and sludge.
Introduction
Caretreat 3 Boiler has been developed to meet the demands for a modern, practical boiler water
treatment. Caretreat 3 Boiler is a dark brown liquid based on neutralized organic acids, pH, corrosion,
scale and sludge conditioners.
The neutralized organic acids remove nominal oxygen presence and inhibit the boiler corrosion forming
an organic iron compound. The correct pH is maintained by a unique blend of low molecular weight
compounds which avoid pitting corrosion caused by chlorides. Use of these compounds also avoids
"under deposit" corrosion which is caused by excess alkalinity in conventional treatment.
A blend of advanced polymers stops the formation of scale and maintains clean surfaces in the boiler.
These conditions are maintained with a low total solids level, avoiding heavy sludge, making blow
down of the boiler more efficient.
Application
Control limits
Intial dosage
Caretreat 3 Boiler is dosed at 0,4 litres per metric ton boiler water. Allow the boiler water to be
conditioned for 24 hours and then carry out a p-alkalinity test. Adjust product dosage as necessary to
obtain a p-alkalinity of 100 - 200 ppm.
At the same time determine the chloride content. If the chlorides are too high, give the boiler a top and
bottom blow down in a ratio in time 2 to 1.
Daily dosage
Recheck p-alkalinity and increase dosage of Caretreat 3 Boiler if necessary to maintain pH or p-
alkalinity level. A minimum of 0,2 ltr/day should be dosed to maintain correct treatment levels in
conjunction with regular top and bottom blown down. This dosage can vary according eg. size of the
boiler system, make up water quality etc.
Properties
Caretreat 3 Boiler is a dark brown liquid containing neutralized organic acids, pH, corrosion, scale and
sludge conditioners. After using the treatment the boiler water will be clear and straw coloured.

An organic oxygen scavenger and corrosion inhibitor for feed, steam and condensate systems
Introduction
Caretreat 4 Condensate is an oxygen scavenger based on neutralized organic acids and a blend of
volatile/neutralizing amines. It is normally used only in conjunction with Caretreat 3 Boiler as part of
the water treatment program. It removes oxygen efficiently in open feed systems and gives effective
corrosion inhibition of boiler/exhaust gas economizer system surfaces by converting Fe203 (rust) to an
organic iron compound. It also protects copper based metals. The amines pass over with the steam and
have the dual function of elevating the pH of the steam/condensate and putting a protective micro film
on the system pipe work. Acidic condensate is the result of carbonic acid (H2C03) being formed as CO2
is released in the steam. The use of Caretreat 4 Condensate prevents corrosion by carbonic acid on live
systems. Its filming properties also reduce corrosion on shut down lines, when moisture and oxygen are
present.
Caretreat 4 Condensate is dosed at a rate which maintains a pH of 9.0 to 10.0 in the condensate returns.
Oxygen entrainment largely depends on Hotwell temperatures and if these are maintained at above 80o
C the condensate pH range of pH 9.0 to 9.5 is adequate. If Hotwell temperature control is erratic and
averages less than 80o C, tighter control is necessary and condensate returns should be kept in the range
pH 9.5 to 10.0. It is not necessary to carry out oxygen or product residual tests.
Initial dosage
Caretreat 4 Condensate is initially dosed at 0,2 ltr/m3 boiler water. Systems showing signs of corrosion
should be dosed at up to .07 ltr/m3 boiler water for the first few days in order to passivate all metal
surfaces.
Daily dosage rates
After initial dose, start metering at a minimum of 0.4 ltr/24 hours continuously and adjust to obtain
correct condensate pH.
Dosing system
Caretreat 4 Condensate must be dosed continuously in conjunction with Caretreat 3 Boiler in a
metering pump/tank unit, discharging directly into the feed system and/or the exhaust gas economizer
circulating pump discharge. It must NEVER be slug dosed to a running system via a Hotwell or by-pass
feeder. For further details on dosing equipment refer to the equipment information sheets.
Properties
For detailed information on safety and health, please refer to Material Safety Data Sheet and / or
Product label.

CARETREAT 5 SEAWATER
Disperses marine growth and reduces corrosion in sea water cooling systems, tanks and sea
water systems
* Prevents and controls marine growth in once-through sea water cooling systems.
* Protects system from corrosion by filming properties.
* Being biodegradable and not oil-based, its use does not contravene regulations limiting oil in
discharge water.
* The formula is approved by the U.K. Department of the Envirement for use at a dose rate not
exceeding 8 ppm for sea water pipelines feeding evaporators producing water for potable
purpose
* Has clearance of major international environmental control departments for discharge into
harbour and sea.
* Empty tanks remain protected for several days.
Introduction
Caretreat 5 Seawater has been designed to effectively stop the development of micro organisms, shell
embryo, bacteria and plant life commonly found in sea water. Most fouling of ships systems is
primarily the result of microscopic organisms colonising in the pipework, attracting growth of larger
lifeforms and giving anchorage to sand and silt. Partial blockage of heat exchanger tubes reduces flow,
resulting in local overheating and subsequent scaling from hardness salts.
Dosage instructions
Example : system of 250 tons/h.
Dosage method
Using the Caretreat 5 Seawater Dosing System to high and low boxes via stop valve and non-return
valve. Extension tube mounted inside box, out to grid. For further details refer to the Marine Care
equipment information sheet.
Dosage routine
A. Calculate amount of Caretreat 5 Seawater for each dose. i.e. 250 tons per hour x 0.006 litre =
1.5 litres/dose.
B. If using a dosing system which requires dilution of Caretreat 5 Seawater with water never add
water to the product. Always mix the product into the water, stirring continuously.
C. On approaching shelf or coastal area, open discharge valves to operating chest and operate
system for 1 hour.
D. Close system valves.
E. Make note of date and which box dosed.
F. If changing to high level suction remember to dose to the correct box.
G. When leaving area (dockside, estuary, coast or shelf area) continue dosing on 2 day cycle so
that last dose is after clearing shallow waters.
2. Tanks
Inject Caretreat 5 Seawater into sea water at 45 - 130 ml per m3 water capacity.
3. Pipelines
Dose at 100 ppm by injecting 80 x D-ltrs per kilometer of pipeline. (D = pipe diameter, in meters).
If fresh water is used for either applicaion lower concentrations may be used.

PRODUCT DATA SHEETS
Caretreat Sludge is an oil soluble and self dispersing fuel oil treatment primarily
formulated to combat problems in the pre-combustion stage with oil used in marine
diesel engines and boiler plants.
Application
Caretreat Sludge is easy to use. The required amount is introduced into the bunker tanks
simply by pumping it through the sounding pipes prior to oil bunkering. The turbulence
created by the subsequent bunkering will, together with the incorporated dispersants, ensure
complete mixing and further distribution of the treatment uniformly throughout the fuel.
Dosages
To obtain the benefits of the chemical treatment to the entire fuel oil system it is necessary to
dose the product in the most appropriate ratio depending upon the nature and severity of the
problem.
If Caretreat Sludge is not used regularly an initial dosage of 1:4000 should be used for
breaking up and dispersing existing sludge. For counteracting the effects of incompatible fuels
(stratification) a dosage as high as 1:2000 may be necessary.
Properties
Clear yellow liquid with a characteristic smell, containing solvents, special detergents and
dispersants. Contains no chlorinated solvents or other harmful ingredients.
Specific gravity (20%) : 0.86
Flash point PMCC : over 62°C
Viscosity : approx. 10mPas
Storage
Maximum storage temperature : + 50°C
Minimum storage temperature : - 20°C

CARETREAT COMBUSTION
The latest development of a fuel oil treatment acting as a combustion improver, carbon
catalyst, ash deposits modifier and smoke suppressant for diesel engines and boilers.
Application
Caretreat Combustion is a concentrated product, especially formulated to treat heavy fuel oil in
diesel engines and boilers.
Dosing
Dosage point location varies depending on engine/boiler fuel system layout. The most efficient
and economical method is obtained with a metering pump, dosing the additive into the suction
side of the booster pump (for diesel engines) or into the burner feed line (for boilers).
Alternatively the additive may be dosed directly to the day tank prior to refilling or directly to
the bunker tanks.
Dosage rates are depending upon engine characteristics, operating conditions and quality of
fuel oil. A CCAI (Calculated Carbon Aromaticity Index) number exceeding 840 indicated a
poor fuel oil quality which justifies the use of a chemical fuel oil treatment to counteract the
effects hereof.
Typical dosage rate varies between 1:1000, 1:6000 and 1:12000. Consult your local Marine
Care Service Engineer for recommendations of the dosage rate based on specific problems and
requirements onboard.

CARETREAT ECONOMIZER
Introduction
Todays main propulsion units have low exhaust gas outlet temperatures. This is due to increased
engine and turbo blower efficiency. Lower gas temperatures are also the result of running at
reduced power. The low temperature and reduced gas volume gives increased soot deposition
and subsequent corrosion.
The increased deposition greatly reduces the thermal efficiency of the economizer. As "dew
point" is often reached in the unit, causing the generation of sulphuric acid, the corrosion process
is greatly accelerated.
Caretreat Economizer is a specially developed liquid which is easily dosed into the system, using
a special Marine Care injection unit. The special air assisted nozzles create a fine mist so that the
liquid vaporises on contact with the hot gas.
The vapor mixes intimately with the exhaust gases and the active material is dispersed
throughout the system in microscopic particles. These tiny particles have an extremely large
"active surface area" and being light, remain in the gas fully dispersed. This ensures that all parts
of the economiser are covered efficiently.
Caretreat Economizer catalyses the post combustion process, resulting in modified soot particles
which are dry and non adherent. The resulting deposit is more friable and can be more easily
removed by the action of the sootblowers.
Dosage instruction
1-2 litres of Economizer is required for every 1000 m2 of heating surface area. This amount
should be increased / decreased dependant on economizer design and fuel consumption.
Dosage period
Caretreat Economizer should be injected daily or twice daily after sootblowing.
Dosing equipment
The product must be dosed via the specially developed Marine Care injection unit which is made
of materials suitable for prolonged contact with Caretreat Economizer. For further information
please refer to the Marine Care equipment information sheet.
Injection points
In most cases a single injector can be put into the exhaust systems immediately after the turbo
charger gas outlet. Marine Care engineers will inspect and make detailed recommendations for
exact positioning.
Properties
Yellowish coloured neutral product containing special metal salts. Fully miscible with water.
For detailed information on safety and health, please refer to Material Safety Data Sheet and /
or Product label.
The details of our products are given completely free of undertaking. Since their application lies outside our control
we cannot accept any liability for the results.
CARETREAT VALVES
Application
Caretreat Valves has been formulated primarily for use in 2-cycle and 4-cycle medium
speed diesel engines which are highly turbocharged and in which premature exhaust valve
failure is a frequent problem.
Dosage
Dosage point location varies depending on engine fuel system layout. The most efficient
and economical dosing method is obtained with a metering pump, dosing the additive as
near to the oil injection point as possible, f.inst. to the suction side of the booster pump.
Dosage rates are depending upon engine characteristics, operating conditions and
especially the quality of fuel oil. Consult your local Marine Care Service Engineer for
recommendation of dosage, etc. based on specific problems and requirements onboard.
Guide for approximate dosage rates:
The combination between the various constituents changes with each bunker supply. It is
therefore imperative that dosages are set for the worst case, viz. the highest value of any of
the above fuel oil
constituents.
Properties
Caretreat Valves is a light brown coloured liquid containing oil soluble organo-metallic
compounds, special solvents, emulsion breakers, anti-oxidants, anti-corrosive agents,
combustion catalyst and dispersants. Compatible with all types of fuel oil.
In accordance with the latest E.E.C. Council directives this product is not subjected to any
official recommendations.
The details of our products are given completely free of undertaking. Since their application lies outside our
control we cannot accept any liability for the results.
CARETREAT SOOT
APPLICATION
The modified sulphur oxides combine with vanadium compounds and prevent the formation of
harmful low melting point sodium vanadyl vanadates.
Caretreat Soot greatly improves sootblowing efficiency and makes boiler cleaning an easier task.
Dosage
Initial dosage for dirty boilers should start at 130 gr. per m³ fuel burnt in 24 hours.
The calculated dose should be divided into 3 equal parts and dosed at 8 hour intervals. As
conditions improve the dosage can be progressively reduced to a minimum of 30 gr. per m³ fuel
burnt in 24 hours.
Once every 24 hours soot should be blown at least 1 hour after the last injection of Caretreat
Soot.
If a boiler has never been treated and is very dirty, double the initial figures can be used for the
first 2 weeks.
Injection
An air operated powder injector can be supplied by Marine Care. Its discharge tube should be put
through a combustion chamber sighting orifice or a special dosing access point. If possible, the
injection should be changed frequently to assist distribution throughout the boiler.

operations where cleaning has been carried out with e.g. Careclean Degreaser HD or Careclean
Degreaser GP.
Cleaning of tanks
Prewash before cleaning with Careclean Neutral HCF it is recommended to prewash with hot water
at 50°C. For drying and semi-drying oils a prewash with cold water should be carried out
immediately after discharge of cargo to retard oxidation and hardening of oil residues.
Recirculation method
A chemical solution is prepared in an empty slop tank or one of the after tanks near the pump room,
circulated via the automatic tank washing system pump and heater to the tank to be cleaned,
wherefrom the solution is returned to the chemical solution tank via the stripping line. Usually it is
not possible to recirculate the chemical solution through the tank washing system heater (to
maintian solution temperature) without making a temporary connection between the chemical
solution tank and the tank washing pump. Capacities of solution tank, pipeline and pumps etc.
should be calculated carefully to ensure sufficient volumetric quantity for a continuous
recirculation.
Depending on size and condition of tanks to be cleaned and quantity of chemical solution, a
drawback in this method is that usually only 3 (three) tanks can be cleaned with one solution after
which a fresh solution should be made and heated before cleaning can continue.
Depending on the degree of contamination Careclean Neutral HCF is circulated as a 2-3% solution
for a periood of 2-6 hours. The water temperature should be approx. 20-60 °C. After the circulation
period rinse thoroughly with water.
Spray method
Spray the hot tanksurfaces with undiluted Careclean Neutral HCF until the surfaces are well soaked

A cleaning agent with excellent separating properties for the removal of mineral oils and
similar residual sediments.
Application
A) Degreasing
1) General cleaning
Dependant upon the degree of contamination Careclean Degreaser Heavy Duty Split can be
used pure, or diluted with water as a 2 to 20% emulsion at temperatures of 20 - 50 °C. After
cleaning rinse with water.
Note: When making up an emulsion always add the product to the water in that order, whilst
stirring constantly.
2) Floorplate maintenance
Careclean Degreaser Heavy Duty Split should be used undiluted when cleaning decks and
floorplates. Spray the area to be cleaned with full strength product and allow to soak for
between 10 to 30 minutes. Brush the treated surface occasionally and finally rinse with
water.
Important note: Before commencing any cleaning all rubber type sealing rings etc. should
be tested for compability with the cleaning solution.
B) Tank Cleaning
1) Prewash
Before cleaning with Careclean Heavy Duty Split it is recommended to prewash with hot
water at approx. 50°C, except for drying and semi-drying oils where a prewash with cold
water should be used.
2) Recirculation method
In this method Careclean Degreaser Heavy Duty Split is added to a separate tank containing a
previously determined quantity of water. The quantity of water required for cleaning the tank
usually amounts to 1% of the capacity of the tank to be cleaned.
The solution is heated by means of heating coils in the tanks. The tanks are washed using a
cargo pump after which the used solution is recycled to the mixing tank. In the
recirculation method use is often made of the sloptank for the preparation of the cleaning
solution. One solution is normally used to wash 2-3 tanks after which a new batch must be
prepared. Careclean Heavy Duty Split must be circulated as a 2-6% emulsion.
Allow this emulsion to circulate for 1-3 hours at a temperature of between 20-50°C. After
the circulation period, rinse thoroughly with water.

CARECLEAN VOYAGE (SEACLEAN)
Strong emulsifying cleaning agent for the removal of heavy crude oil, soot, ashpalt and carbon
black stains, by direct injection, Voyage method, spraying and/or recirculation-METHOD.
Application
Tanks
Careclean voyage can be used for the removal of most mineral oils and fats in cargo and storage
tanks.
Directions of use
Prewash
Before cleaning with Careclean voyage, it is recommended to prewash tanks with hot water of
approximately 50° C except for crude oil drying and semi-drying oils where a prewash with cold
water should be applied.
Recirculation method
A chemical solution is prepared in one of the after tanks near the pump room. circulated via the
automatic tank washing system pump and heater to the tank to the cleaned, wherefrom the solution is
returned to the chemical solution tank via the stripping line. Usually it is not possible to recirculate
solution through the tank washing system heater (to maintain solution temperature) without making a
temporary connection between the chemical solution tank and the tank washing pump.
Capacities of solution tank, pipelines and pumps etc. should be calculated carefully to ensure
sufficent volumetric quantity for a continuous recirculation. Depending on size and condition of
tanks to be cleaned and quantity of chemical solution a drawback in this method is that usually only 3
(three) tanks can be cleaned with one solution after which a fresh solution should be made and heated
before cleaning can continue. The required solution strength is 2 - 6 % Careclean Voyage.
After chemical cleaning the tanks should be rinsed thoroughly with sea water of fresh water
depending on availability and requirements.
Tank
1. Heat tank to higher than normal temperature, pump out as much fuel as possible and trim
vessel to ensure complete stripping.
2. Close all valves on engine room manifold.
3. Introduce first dose of Careclean voyage, through the sounding pipe, in accordance with the
dosage table stated below and fill the tank to 25% of its capacity with sea water. For filling
the tanks it is adviced not to use the ballast lines as they may contain fuel oil making the
cleaning more difficult.
4. Heat cleaning solution to minimum 60°C and maintain temperature for 48 hours. If heating
coils are not available, live steam may be used for heating the solution and maintain
temperature.
5. Empty tanks completely, fill to 50% capacity and empty again. Where single stage cleaning is
used the previous steps are ignored.
6. Add second dose of Careclean voyage and fill tank with sea water to 50% of its capacity,
continue heating and maintain at this level for 48 hours.
7. Add further sea water to fill tank to 75% capacity, continue heating and maintain for another
48 hours.
8. Empty tanks and pressure rinse with clean water through sounding pipes for 1-1 hour under
continuous stripping. Pressure should be kept as high as safety permits.
9. When rinsing is completed stop discharge (stripping) pump and fill tank until clear water runs
from sounding pipes on deck.
10. Stop water supply and empty (strip) tank. Trim vessel to ensure complete stripping.
Note: If tanks are not serverely contamined and/or the fuel oil viscosity is lower than 180 cSt at
50°C th cleaning process should be in one stage using step 5-10 only.
Properties
Highly concentrated blend of aromatic solvents emulsifiers and surface active ingredients. Light
yellow coloured neutral liquid. Emulsifiable with water to a maximum of 50%. Undiluted at room
temperature or in emulsions with water up to 6% at a maximum temperature of 60°C it can also be
used on plastic materials, epoxy and zinc silicate coatings.

CARECLEAN BUFFER
• Suitable for the removal of traces of lead and iron stains from zinc silicate coated tank
surfaces after transport of leaded gasoline.
• Suitable for the removal of traces of chloride and sulphide.
• Safe buffered pH of 5.5 for application on zinc-silicate coated tank surfaces.
• Gives a good cleaning result with a reduced cleaning time.
Application
The ordinary cleaning method with a synthetic soap takes a lot of time and is insufficient. A mild
complexing acid solution in combination with synthetic soap gives a much better cleaning result.
Careclean Buffer is used as a final cleaning procedure when leaded gasoline must be removed or
when the tank has to be completely chloride or sulphide free, e.g. for shipping pure chemicals.
Directions of use
After the normal cleaning depending on the nature of the last cargo and subsequent rinsing with
water, the cleaning with Careclean Buffer can start. Never dilute with river or seawater. Fill a
tank for 1/100 part with water and add 10% Careclean Buffer at maximum. The solution is
heated by means of heating coils in the tanks. The tanks are washed with a loading pump, after
which the used solution is recycled to the mixing tank. Usually, one solution is used to wash 2 -
3 tanks.
Careclean Buffer is circulated with a limited contact time of 30 - 45 minutes before rinsing at a
temperature not to exceed 45°C.
Of essential importance for passing the chloride test is a final rinse with chloride free, if possible
hot, water.
If necessary, repeat this cleaning procedure.
Properties
Mild acid, yellowish liquid with a characteristic odour. Completely miscible with water. For use
on all common metals, specially developed for cleaning zinc-silicate coatings.

CARECLEAN AIR FRESH
Careclean Air Fresh is a liquid based on perfumed oils in water. It is suitable for eliminating
unpleasant smells in tanks.
Careclean Air Fresh is safe to use on most common metals and coatings.
Application
Careclean Air Fresh is often used if, after the cleaning of tanks a smell of the previous cargo (e.g. fish
oil or terpentine) is perceptible after tankcleaning. It is recommended that the cause of the smell is
determined before applying the product. If the smell is caused by bad cleaning, the tank should be re-
cleaned because application of the product without tankcleaning may cause a surveyor to reject.
Careclean Air Fresh is sprayed in a 1:10 dilution with water. Normally, 1 to 2 liters of product is
sufficient for one 400 m3 tank. Let the product evaporate for a reasonable period. It is also possible
to dose 0.1 - 1% of the product to the last rinsing water after tankcleaning. Before entering the tank
after treatment, it should be thoroughly ventilated.
Properties
Green colored liquid with a specific smell. Not corrosive to most common metals and coatings.
Non-flammable, miscible with water.
For detailed information on safety and health, please refer to Material Safety Data Sheet and / or
Product label.

CARECLEAN PICKLING LIQUID
Careclean Pickling Liquid is based on nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid and non-ionic surface-active
substances.
The fluid may be used only on austenitic stainless steel as it corrodes other materials.
It removes weld slag, annealing scale, grinding dust and iron parts etc.
Applications
Careclean Pickling Liquid is used mainly for pickling installations and tanks. It may be used in
the following ways:
1. By circulation
2. Spraying
3. In immersion baths
Pretreatment
Before commencing clean and degrease the surfaces to be pickled, this will give the basis for
uniform pickling. Use Careclean ECS Quick Dry to remove felt pen ink marks.
Use Careclean Alkaline for degreasing small metal surfaces. To degrease tanks etc. We advice the
use of a 1-5% solution of Careclean Aquawash in warm water. After pickling rinse thoroughly
with a jet of water.
Circulation method
This method is used mainly for pipe systems. Fill the system with cold undiluted Careclean
Pickling Liquid. Pickling will take 2 to 6 hours depending on the degree of soiling and on the kind
of austenitic steel do not pickle longer than necessary. Drain the system and rinse carefully,
preferably with demineralised water. After rinsing if required passivation should follow
immediately.
For this use Careclean Passivating Liquid.
Note: Before disposing the pickling liquid it should be neutralised with slaked lime.
Immersion bath method
Fill a plastic or plastic lined bath with undiluted Pickling Liquid. Place the articles to be pickled
into the bath and leave them to soak for 1 to 6 hours depending on the degree of soiling and the
kind of austenitic steel.
Remove the articles from the bath and spray them with a powerful water jet. Demineralised water
should preferably be used for this purpose. Passivation should follow immediately after spraying.
Passivation
A protective oxide layer will form on the austenitic stainless steel only if oxidizing conditions are
present. For example during longterm rinsing in oxygen rich water of during storage in the open
air.
In these circumstances the steel automatically passivates. Because this passive layer takes a long
time to develop to the correct thickness we recommend passivating with Careclean Passivating
Liquid, particularly if the stainless steel is exposed to corrosive conditions soon after the pickling
treatment.
Good results are obtained if the object is sprayed/brushed with Careclean Passivating Liquid
immediately after it has been rinsed. Rinse with plenty of water after approx. 5 minutes.
To neutralise the acid and to make the fluorides and heavy metals insoluble the effluent water and
paste should treated with slaked lime to give a pH balance of 8,5-9. After the soluble substances
have settled the uncontaminated water may be drained. Isolate the insoluble contamination and if
possible drain by means of filtration, otherwise mix with sawdust and dispose of as chemical
waste.
Properties
Strong acidic product containing nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid. Fully miscible with water.
Suitable only for use on austenitic stainless steel. Corrosive on all other steels and many other
materials.
The details of our products are given completely free of undertaking. Since their application lies outside our control
we cannot accept any liability for the results.
CARECLEAN PASSIVATING LIQUID
• Passivating Liquid is based on nitric acid and non-ionic surface active substances.
• The product provides austenitic stainless steel with a protective oxide layer after it has
been pickled. The metal is then passive.
• Passivating Liquid, undiluted, is suitable for use only on austenitic stainless steel.
Application
Passivating Liquid is used mainly for the passivation of pickled installations and tanks.
It can be applied in the following ways:
1. by circulation
2. by spraying
General
A passivating treatment with Marine Care Passivating Liquid can only take place if the steel has
been pickled previously (i.e. treated with Careclean Pickling Liquid or Careclean Pickling Paste).
Circulation method
This method is applied mainly in pipe systems. Fill the system with undiluted cold Passivating
Liquid. The time taken for treatment is approx. 2 hours. Drain the system and rinse thoroughly
with demineralized water. After drying test the passivity of the steel using the Marine Care
Palladium Test Set.
N.B. Before disposing the passivating fluid it should be neutralised. For this use slaked lime.
Spraying
This method is generally used in tanks with a tank washing device which is resistant to our
product Careclean Passivating Liquid.
The Passivating Liquid fluid is sprayed undiluted using a spraytime of approx. 15 minutes. After
this rinse thoroughly with plenty of water using, preferably, demineralised. After drying, test the
passivity of the steel with the aid of a Marine Care Palladium Test Set.
Properties
Strong acidic product. Contains nitric acid. Fully miscible with water. Undiluted it is suitable for
use only on austenitic stainless steel. When diluted it is suitable for cleaning aluminium.
For detailed information on safety and health, please refer to Material Safety Data Sheet and / or
Product label.

CARECLEAN PICKLING PASTE
Pickling Paste for austenitic stainless steel.
INTRODUCTION
Careclean Pickling Paste is a colourless paste for austenitic stainless steel. It contains nitric acid and
hydrofluoric acid. It contains neither hydrochloric acid nor chlorides.
APPLICATION
Careclean Pickling Paste is used for the pickling of welded seams and surfaces of austenitic stainless
steel in any kind of construction, included for instance the outside of pipes and tanks. Steels other than
austenitic stainless steel will be corroded by the strong pickling effect of the Careclean Pickling Paste.
Nickel, nickel- and copper-nickel-alloys may also be pickled with the Careclean Pickling Paste.
Special precautions have to be followed to prevent these materials from corrosive attack.
Some of these metals and welding materials have been tested.
Kindly contact Marine Care for further information.
1. Pretreatment
See general information.
2. Pickling
Please read the security instructions before you start pickling.
During storage the paste may become partially liquid.
Mix the Careclean Pickling Paste, using a plastic or wooden spoon, then put it on the
surfaces and welded seams to be treated. Use a resistant brush without metal parts.
If the pickling treatment is protracted, clean the brush frequently, so that the dirt is not
widely spread. On conclusion, clean the brush thoroughly with water and allow it to dry.
The Careclean Pickling Paste is applied at room temperature, until the surface is well
covered; a thicker coating should be applied to the welded seams. 1 Kg. of the paste is
sufficient to treat about 70-150 m. of welded seams (5cm wide) or 4-8m² surface
depending on the quantity and nature of iron oxides to be dissolved.
Allow the pickling agent to act for 15-60 minutes on austenitic stainless steel, 5-20
minutes on nickel, nickel-alloys and copper-nickel-alloys (see Applications).
If the pickling has not been sufficient, then rinse and reapply the paste.
For a temperature change of 10 degrees centrigade up or down from
room temperature, the pickling activity and thus the pickling time changes roughly by a
factor of two. Normally it is sufficient to let the Careclean Pickling Paste act for the given
time without a further mechanical action. As the welding quality has a big influence, further
mechanical aid may become necessary. This may for instance be done by brushing with
brushes made from natural or plastic fibres or from austenitic stainless steel, provided
that the paste is still active.
4. Passivation
See general information.

CARECLEAN SEWAGE
* Assists in keeping drains, traps and lines clean and clog free.
* pH neutral and therefore not harmful to the system.
* Used to replace aggressive cleaners.
* Maintains system in optimum operational condition.
Application
Careclean Sewage can be applied by slug dosing or metering directly into the sewage tank
(i.e. Marine Sanitation Device (MSD), Collection, Holding and Transfer system (CHTS) or
other type of holding tank.)
A more convenient method is to apply directly to galley and Sewage facilities (e.g.
commodes, sink, shower, and scuppers) as a pH neutral cleaner to replace harsh acid, caustic
and bleach based products which are all highly harmful to the normal operation of any
biological system:
Careclean Sewage performs within a pH range of 5.5-8.5 and a temperature range 10-44oC.
Extremes of pH and temperature, as well as wide shifts in either parameter over a short
period of time should be avoided.
1. Start up dosage of 1 litre of Careclean Sewage per 1.000 litres of tank capacity should be
added directly to the holding tank and allowed a minimum of 24 hours after this initial
application for the system to become properly activated.
2. Additions should be made daily if used as a tankcleaner in amounts of 0,25 litre per 1.000
litres of additional liquids.
3. When used as a cleaner about 100 ml of product should be applied to each bowl, sink and
drain in the same manner as with any janitorial type cleaner. Note: When used as a cleaner,
Careclean Sewage will achieve the maximum results partly due to eliminating line blockage.

CARECLEAN ULTRASONIC
Cleaning liquid for use in ultrasonic cleaning baths and cleaning machines
* Suitable for use on all common metals (except zinc and some magnesium alloys)
* Designed for ultrasonic equipment
* Easy to dispose
* Low foaming so can be used in cleaning machines.
INTRODUCTION
The cleaning of heavily contaminated fuel and lubricating oil filters, cylinderheads and aircoolers
often give problems. The use of a cleaning agent only is generally unsatisfactory as only a part of
the deposits will be removed, and in most cases carbon residues and other solid materials will be
left behind. In such cases the use of ultrasonic sound waves in combination with a special cleaning
agent gives good results. The contamination will be removed by the ultrasonic process in the
liquid. The special detergents in the cleaning agent keep the contamination dispersed in the liquid
and the complexing agents will partly dissolve them. Careclean Ultrasonic has been developed for
use in ultrasonic baths for the cleaning of all materials except zinc, galvanised parts and/or
magnesium alloy.
APPLICATION
Marine Care design build and commission the "Caretech" ultrasonic cleaning bath systems.
Cleaning Machines
Careclean Ultrasonic is, depending on the nature and degree of contamination, applied in approx.
4% solution in cleaning machines. The contaminated objects must be placed in the machine and
cleaned for 30-60 min. at a temperature of 80 - 90° C. Finally rinse with water.
PROPERTIES
Careclean Ultrasonic is a low foaming mild alkaline liquid. It can be used on all common metals
except zinc, galvanised materials and some magnesium alloys. We advise to test lightmetal alloys
(aluminium/magnesium alloys etc.) i.e. pistons, turboblower parts etc. in advance
for 5-10 minutes. Suitable for use on synthetic materials, rubber and cured lacquers.
Colour : yellowish
Specific gravity (20°C) : 1.19

CARETREAT BACTERIA
A microbiological control agent for use in water, lube oil and fuel oil systems
Application
Caretreat Bacteria is used in cooling water systems and oil storage facilities which have
problems due to bacteria colonization and/or algae in the oil/water interface.
Caretreat Bacteria is ideally suited to the sterilization of Marine Diesel Engine Cooling Water
Systems which have bacteria and/or algae infection.
Diesel Cooling Systems have been prone to this, due to the common occurrence of lubricating
and/or fuel oil mixing with cooling water. This gives an oil/water phase ideal for bacteria to
colonize rapidly. Water containing bacteria leaks into the lube oil system due to faulty glands,
joints and seals or during routine maintenance.
Small amounts of infested water/oil sludges in the storage and circulatory parts of the lube oil
system can quickly lead to major failure of bearing surfaces due to acidic conditions and
degradation of the oils lubricating properties.
If it is above 105/ml, there is a good chance that colonization has taken place throughout the
fuel. In that case, treat at 700 - 1000 ml of Caretreat Bacteria to each m3 of fuel.
NOTE: These basic instructions are intended to give a reasonable guide to the actions required.
* Please contact Marine Care for more details and specific recommendations.
Properties
In accordance with the latest E.E.C. Council directives this product is not subject to any
official recommendation.
A general purpose dispersant for effective removal of mud and silt from ballast tanks,
pipe line systems, open and closed cooling water circuits.
Both dosage recommendations should be considered as the minimum for full effectivenes.
Carefloc should be added via the tank covers, avoiding dispersion problems when dosed via
vents or sounding tubes. If the latter is unavoidable, ensure that plenty of water is added
directly after, to aid mixing.
Note: If “on load” cleaning of specific coolers is required, inject 1 ltr. Carefloc to 10 m3
cooler throughput upstream of the unit for 1 hour.
General hints
A. Prolonged contact of Carefloc with sludge reduces its effective floculation. This should
be considered in ballast tanks which are not continuously being discharged. Sludge
should be removed within seven days maximum.
B. Above 60° C the effect of Carefloc is reduced and, if necessary, dosage rates must be
increased.
C. Carefloc will function over the full pH range, however, it is more effective in alkaline
conditions.
D. Do not use less than 1 ltr. of Carefloc to 20 m3 water.
Injection Equipment
Marine Care has a range of pump and tank units suitable for the injection of Carefloc.

CARECLEAN HIGH PRESSURE
Application
Careclean High Pressure is mainly used for general cleaning of engine spaces, cleaning of
outside paintwork, cargo holds and tanks.
For use in high pressure machines generally use a 10% solution of Careclean High Pressure
mixed with water in a dosing tank (with pre-washing a 5% solution is sufficient). Adjust the
dosage to such that at the spray nozzle of the high pressure machine a 0.1 – 0.5% solution is
reached. Recommended cleaning temperature is 20 to 80°C. With persistent dirt it is
recommended to spray the product pure or diluted with water to a 10% solution on the object
to be cleaned. After a soaking time of 5 – 10 minutes spray clean water under high pressure.
Properties
Alkaline fluid. Good in hard water. Suitable for use on synthetic material, rubber, hardened
enamel and most metals. It is less suitable for use on aluminum, tin, zinc, galvanized material
and on zinc silicate coatings. Colourless and non-flammable.
For detailed information on safety and health, please refer to Material Safety Data Sheet
and / or Product label.

Adjust the Chloride-level by means of blow down and addition of distilled water. The
tons/24h blow down can be calculated using the following equation: Blow down
(ton/24h)=pcm Cl in make up feed X water added (ton/24h)
Notes:
- Instead of ppm Cl, the Chloride-level is sometimes express ppm NaCl (sodium chloride)
- maximum chloride level for cooling water is 100 ppm Cl. Adjust or condensate (free
of Hydrazine, rust) water.
