I. Learning Objectives
A. identify the parts and functions of cell;
B. differentiate animal and plant cells based on their structure and functions;
C. label the parts of cell; and
D. appreciate the importance of cell to an organism.
II. Subject Matter:
A. Topic: Cell
B. Sub-topic: Parts and Functions of Cell, Comparison of Plant and Animal Cell
C. Reference: Ching, J. (2007). General Biology Compendium, Revised Edition.
Mandaluyong Philippines: Cacho Hermanos, Inc.
D. Time allotment: 1 hour
E. Materials:
 Model of Plant and Animal Cell
 Visual aids
 Activity sheet
 Board and Chalk/ White Board and Marker
III. Lesson Proper
A. Recall/ Review

Direction: Find and cross-out the word

B. Priming Activity

Direction: In a ½ sheet of paper

C. Abstraction:

*Cell Wall – protects and gives support to the cell

*Cell Membrane - semi-permeable; regulates the in and out of substance
*Cytoplasm – holds the organelles in place; serves as a medium transport of substances
*Vacuole – storage of cell sap (composed mainly of water, organic, and inorganic substances)
*Nucleus – the brain of the cell; controls all cellular processes; contains nucleic acids and genes
*Nucleolus – stores RNA

*Mitochondria – power house of the cell; produces ATP via cellular respiration; gives energy to the cell
*Golgi Body – integral in the modification, sorting, packaging of substances
*Lysosomes – “suicidal bag”;
*Ribosomes – site of protein synthesis
*Endoplasmic Reticulum – has two kinds
*Chloroplasts- site for photosynthesis

D. Application:

Identify the function of the following parts of the cell. Then, identify which person does the same job (or
a place like it) in the school. The first one is done for you as an example to follow.

F. Evaluation:

Direction: Label each part of the animal and plant cell.

G. Assignment:

Do an advance reading about Cell Division. You can use any Science book or Internet as reference and
answer the following questions in one half sheet of paper:

1. What are the processes of cell Division?

2. Why do you think cell division is essential?
