VACATION HOME
 CONCEPT

On a recently purchased beautiful beachfront property, Jim Watson

of Time Share Washington, Incorporated, hopes to design a small
community of single-family, waterfront, time-share vacation homes.
The homes will periodically “change” their decor to suit their needs:
family photos, favorite linens and artwork, etc. The homes are to be
built with a modern mindset and details should follow suit. The
client wishes to provide ample storage in the house, as there will be
much needed for these “familiar things” to be stored.

PREDESIGN
The spaces within the home are minimally finished: light,
reflective colors on the walls, simple baseboarding, and clean
lines. The entry will the be the visual focal point of the north
end of the home. An unimposing modern chandelier adorns
the staicase, allowing light to fill the space, whether natural or
artificial. Underneath the stairs, the water heater and a washer
and dryer will be housed. There will also need to be a small
storage area beneath this area. Because the space is open to
both floors, the same chandelier is specified for the dining area.

The kitchen has minimal cabinetry, but provides ample
room for light cooking when needed. The living area has
built-in seating that matches a pair of side chairs, as well as
firewood storage next to the fireplace. The materials will be
chosen so that they are sustainable and seem to “bring the
outside in.” Overall, the stairs will have a very modern and
open feel, boasting clean lines and sleek materials, adding
to the overall feeling of the house, especially the open area
between the foyer-area, stairs, and upper floor.
