 FRANS KAISIEPO

Frans kaisiepo was born in Biak on October 10,1921.he is the national hero from papua who
had contributed to maintain papua belong to republic of Indonesia.

In1945,frans kaisiope studied at papua bestuurschool(the police scool of papua)in

Hollandia(now jaya pura).at that time ,before augst 1945,the idea of independent Indonesia had spread
among student.(1).following the capture of silas papare,frans kaisiepo and johan ariks continued the
struggle to liberate wast irian from the dutch control.

From the word”irian”he made an acronym”ikut republik Indonesia anti Nederland”of”join anti
netherland republic of Indonesia”.(2).he also asked his brother,markus kaisiepo, to change papua
bestuurschool to irian bestuurschool.

On August 31,1945,frans kaisiepo,markus kaisiepo, corinus krey and other komite Indonesia
merdeka (free Indonesia Committee)members hoisted a Red amd white flag and sang Indonesia
raya.indonesia’snationalanthem.

Frans kaisiepo was also one of the founders of partai Indonesia merdeka(free Indonesia
party)lid by Lukas rumkorem.(3).however,it was no more than making west papua a puppet state..in
march 1948,a rebellion broke in blak and frans kaisiepo was ane of the brains.

(4).Than,on December 27,1949 the netdherland’s and Indonesia met in round table confrencein
pen hag.to get frans kaisiepo, sypaty, the government of the netherland asked him to be dutch
delegation during round table conference,but he directly refused the offer.(5).he also protested the
Netherlands for separating west new guinea from Indonesia in round table conference.

The years after round table conference,confrontation between Indonesia and the Netherlands
over west papua got international attention. To save its face in the international community, the
Netherlands quickly prepared independence for west papua.(6).later,he proposed to change the name
most eastern islad in indonesia”new guinea”to”irian”meaning”hot land”in biak language.

On December 19,1961 in Yogyakarta,soekarno announdced a military campaign to liberate west

papua.(7).this campign is know as trikora operation.frans kaisiepo actively helped Indonesian troops
landing in west New guine diring trikora operation.

After the official integration of west papua,west papua became the 26 th provice of Indonesia
with name west irian(now it is divided into west papua province and papua province).(8).frans kaisiepo
was appointed to be the second governor of west irian siccedingElias jan bonay.

Frans kaisiepo died on April 10,1979. He was recognized as a national hero on September
14,1993.to honor his merits fo the country, an airport in biak is named after him.
