1. OBJETIVOS
2. ABSTRACT
The main objective of this laboratory is that students can determine the arsenic
content in a mining sample. In addition, it is important to evaluate and determine
whether the sample analyzed comply the current environmental mining
regulations.
In order to analyze everything that was pointed out, in the laboratory, there were
performed some procedures to determine the arsenic content in a sample. On
one hand, in the first experience, a sample with As3+ was used, so, first, it was
used the potassium permanganate in order to obtain As5+, by oxidation, because
it is easier to analyze the As5+ than the As3+ directly, and this solution was
agitated for 10 minutes in an orbital agitator. Second, it was added iron sulfate to
the previous solution, and it was agitated for 10 minutes more. On the other hand,
in the second experience, a sample with As5+ was used, so it was not necessary
to add a potassium permanganate, then, a solution of iron sulfide was added to
the solution with As5+, and it was agitated for 10 minutes. At the end of both
processes, there were taken two samples, with the filtration process, for
laboratory analysis. Finally, the student had to compare and evaluate the arsenic
content in each sample.

N°5). Dicha concentración final de As3+ fue de 38 ppm.
