A. PASSIVE VOICE
Passive Voice is used to show interest in te person or object that experiences an action rather
than the person or object that performs the action. In other words, the most important thing or
person becomes the subject of the sentence.

EXAMPLES

 The passive voice is used frequently.(= we are interested in the passive voice,not in who
uses it.)
 The road is being repaired.(=we are interested in the road,not in the people who are doing
the repairs.)

Rumus Passive Voice

S + be + past participle + (by agent)

Explanation :
 S = Subject
 Be = Auxiliary verb (am, is, are, was, were, has been, have been, will be, dll)
 Past Participle = or can be called verb 3 (form 3 verb)
 By Agent = Actor of action

EXAMPLES

 She can’t drive a car.(active voice,transitive).


 He always come on time.(active voice,intransitive)
B. DIFFERENT PASSIVE AND ACTIVE SENTENCES

1. Active Sentence
 Active Sentence In brief, the sense of active sentences is a sentence that the subject does
the job (predicate). Based on the existence of the object, this sentence is divided into two
types, namely transiti and intransitive active sentence.

Example of active sentence :

- Dad bringing suitcases.


- She folded Umar’s clothes through the paper.
- Risma sweeps the yard.
- Udung is waitimg for pak Somad.
- Jarwo scolds sopo.
- Deni bought the book.
- Ani put her bag in the living room

1. Passive Sentence.
 Passive Sentence is a sentence whose subject to work. Like the active sentence, passive
sentences are also divided into two types, transitive and intransitive passive sentences.

Exmples of passive sentences :

- The book is being read by Rani angkung cooked sari.


- The damaged car has been repaired pak Ali’s employees.
- The chair was occupied byMr.Usman.
- Mr.Joko is waiting for the pricinpal.
- He was fired from his office.

2. PASIVE IF WE WANT TO CONVERT AN ACTIVE SENTENCE INTO A


PASSIVE SENTENCE.
 we can do so by changing the object of the active sentence into the subject a passive
sentence.

ACTIVE = S + V + O

PASSIVE = S + To Be + V3
Explanation :

The object on the active sentence will turn into a sutek on a passive sentence.
Example 1 Active Julie writers letter to her friend. (Julie wrote a letter to her friend.)
Passive a letter to her friend written by Julie. (a letter to his friend was written by
Julie.)

PASSIVE VOICE

PRESENT TENSE IS :
 Simple Present Tense
Formula : S + am / is / are + verb 3

Example:
1. A car is driven by Andi.
= Sebuah mobil dikendarai oleh Andi

2. The door is opened by Lisa


= Pintu dibuka oleh Lisa

3. A newspaper is read by Mr. joko


= sebuah Koran dibaca oleh Pak Joko

 Present Continuous tense


Formula : S + am / is / are + being + verb 3

Example :
1. Their classroom is being cleaned
= Ruang kelas mereka sedang dibersihkan

2. Fandy’s younger brother is being treated in hospital


= Adik laki-laki anda sedang dirawat dirumah sakit

 Present Perfect Tense


Formula : S + have / has + been + verb 3

Example :
1. The task has been completed by Fiona
= Tugas sudah diselesaikan oleh Fiona
PAST TENSE IS :

 Simple Past Tense


Formula : S + was / were + verb 3

Example :
1. His car was stolen yesterday
= mobilnya dicuri kemarin

2. Lia was met by Ani yesterday


= Lia ditemui oleh Ani kemarin

3. Taman Nasional was visited by them last week


= Taman Nasional dikunjungi oleh mereka minggu lalu

4. Eli and Lala were followed by Ela


= Eli dan Lala diikuti oleh Ela

5. Joni was helped by Jono


= Joni ditolong oleh Jono

 Past Continuous Tense

Formula : S + was / were + being + verb 3

Example :

1. The cake was being made in the kitchen.


= kue sudah sedang dibuat didapur
