Nano bubble water free process for garment

eco-finishing

MNB ECO-FINISHING

A new machine using nano-bubble technology to apply garment finishing products has
been previously developed by Jeanologia. The project was funded by National Spanish
Research and Development co-funding program that ended in 2012. MNB ECO-
FINISHING Eco-Innovation project consists of the industrial validation of the recently
developed equipment, extending its use to all kind of surface treatments on garments,
and reaching the potential markets by means of the implementation of demonstrators,
as well as the participation in workshops and promotion events. Target groups and main
beneficiaries of the new technology are industrial laundries from Asian, American and
European markets, that will be able to carry out the application of softeners, dyes,
antimicrobial products, among others, through a more eco-friendly, rapid and economic
process. The Consortium is composed of two SMEs companies, JEANOLOGIA and
PIZARRO and AITEX a technical centre specialized in textile technology. The
coordinating company, Jeanologia, is specialised in garment finishing. AITEX is a non
profit textile RTD centre, able to carry out the technical analysis of the new processes;
and the core activity of PIZARRO is to wash, dye, finish and print textile materials, being
the first expert to validate the technology in industrial conditions, and the first
beneficiary.

Benefits
Finishing garment companies will benefit in both economical and environmental aspects. The use of
the e-flow technology will derive in asignificant reduction of use of resources: water use reduction up
to 98%, energy use reduction up to 47% and elliminating chemical wastes associated to water
dumping, all of them involved in garment finishing processes.

Results
• Reduction of 98% of water used in finish garment processes. (Savings of 5 million m3/year in
Europe)

• Reduction of 47% electric consumption (savings of 80 MWh/year in Europe)

• Elimination of water wastes and the associated chemical wastes to the environment. Through the
use of the exactly quantity needed for the process.

• Three versions of the technology have been installed and havebeen validated at real industrial scale
in different processes and markets.

• Conditioning technology has been adapted to other specific textile finishing processes, like
functionalization and exhaustion (durable water repellence, wrinkle-free, 3D effects, overdye, tie
dye…). Treated garments had been characterized using different standards (3M method for Water
repellency, AATCC D118 for Oil repellency…) and advanced techniques such as scanning electronic
microscopy and results are good, even better than the traditional techniques. Moreover, important
savings (up to 95% for softening processes) in CO2eq emissions had been estimated

MNB Ecofinishing project has permitted to launch to the market three different machines that can
perform, by means of nanobubble technology, traditional finishing operations such as softening, resin
application or dyeing, but with much less environmental impact and increasing the range of products
of the “Eco” line of Jeanologia.
