de 1833. En un pequeño pueblo de Álava, un comisario del

gobierno llamado Alfredo investiga un suceso que le lleva hasta
una siniestra herrería en lo profundo del bosque, donde vive un
peligroso y solitario herrero llamado Patxi.
Los aldeanos de la zona cuentan sobre él oscuras historias
relacionadas con robos, asesinatos y pactos demoníacos. Hasta
cierto día, por casualidad, una niña huérfana llamada Usue
consigue colarse en la misteriosa herrería, destapando la terrible
verdad que se esconde tras Patxi el Herrero.

EN) It has been eight years since the first Carlist War of 1833. In a small
village in Alava, a government commissioner named Alfredo investigates
an event that leads to a sinister blacksmith in the depths of the forest,
where a dangerous and lonely blacksmith lives Patxi.

ERREMENTARI está inspirada en un cuento popular vasco sobre un herrero tan
malvado y astuto capaz de engañar al mismísimo diablo. Recogido en 1903, el
cuento pertenece a un compendio fábulas europeas sobre diablos que fracasan en
el intento de capturar almas humanas y son castigados por los humanos.

ERREMENTARI is inspired by a popular Basque tale about a blacksmith so cruel

and smart who can deceive the devil him self. Registed in 1903, the tale belongs to a
compendium of European fables about devils who fail to capture human souls and
are punished by humans.

tradizionalean inspiratutako irudi errealeko filme bat da. Era berean, 1903an
jasota, Europako ipuin eta elezahar bilduma baten parte da. Kontakizun
horietan, giza-pertsonaien arimak harrapatzeko saioetan porrot eginda, deabru
gajoek pairatutako burla eta eskarnioak biltzen dira.
ERREMENTARI tiene lugar en el siglo XIX, al final de la 1º
Guerra Carlista. Una época de cambio, guerra y conflicto
entre la Razón y la Tradición que alimentó el imaginario
popular del País Vasco.

of the 1st Carlist War. A time of change, war and conflict
between Reason and Tradition that fueled the popular
imagination of the Basque Country.

careful production design that recreates and reinterprets popular

ERREMENTARI, misterio, abentura eta emozioz
jositako ipuin gotiko fantastikoa da, izaki beldurgarriz
betea. Produkzio diseinu aberats baten bidez euskal
folklore giroa berregin eta berrinterpretatu dugu jendea
harritzeko.
 Los diálogos de ERREMENTARI son recitados en el casi extinto
euskera alavés del siglo XIX. Queriendo respetar la tradición del
cuento original, diversos lingüístas han trabajado para recuperar la
forma de hablar de la época y darle una sonoridad ancestral.

The dialogues of ERREMENTARI are recited in Basque, maybe the

most ancient language in Europe. Beside that, several linguists have
worked to bring back the way of speaking in the Basque Country in the
XIX century. A way to respect and recover the tradition and to and give
to the film a unique sonority.

ERREMENTARI-ren diaogoak aspaldi galdutako XIX. mendeko

euskara arabarrean daude idatziak. Ipuin originalaren tradizioa
errespetatuz, gure linguistak gogor lan egin dute garaiko arbasoen
hizkeraren soinua lortzeko.
ERREMENTARI (El herrero y el diablo)
es una Película en Euskera, de imagen
real e inspirada en un cuento popular
tradicional del País Vasco llamado “Patxi
Errementaria”. Un relato que a su vez
pertenece a un compendio de cuentos y
fábulas europeas, que narran las burlas y
escarnios que sufren los pobres diablos
al fracasar en el intento de capturar las
almas humanas. Era mi cuento favorito
de niño. Y está profundamente enraizado
en la herencia de mi cultura.
Se trata de una historia rural de género
fantástico con pinceladas de terror y
humor negro.
Una obra con una cuidada estética de
cuento oscuro, donde los personajes se
encontrarán en una inquietante herrería
entre hierros torcidos y siniestras
sombras proyectadas por las llamas de la
fragua.
ERREMENTARI (The Blacksmith and
the Devil) is a film in Basque language,
inspired by a popular traditional Basque
folk tale titled “Patxi Errementaria” In
turn, it belongs to a compendium of
European stories and fables that narrate
the trials and tribulations suffered by one
poor demon or another in their disastrous
attempts to capture human souls. It was
my favourite tale when I was child. And
it`s deeply rooted in my culture heritage.
It is a story of dark fantasy, humour and
sentiments of grudge and forgiveness.
With a esthetic that is both sinister and
magical: shadowy figures etched against a
backdrop of fire.
It’s a place where natural settings acquire
a darker taint: the imposing blacksmith’s
workshop crammed full of twisted iron,
the deep mist-filled forests of our land and
the Dantesque gates of hell.

Paul Urkijo Alijo, Director de cine de Vitoria-Gasteiz (Pais Vasco), nace en
1984 y desde muy pequeño le apasionan el Cine, la ilustración, la literatura,
y los cómics, con predilección por el género fantástico.Siendo un gran
aficionado a la lectura de mitología y cuentos tradicionales.
En 2008 Se licencia en Bellas Artes y profesionalmente se dedica a la
realización de audiovisuales, la ilustración y la infografía. Así comienza a
escribir y realizar sus propios cortometrajes de ficción y animación.
Los cortometrajes que ha escrito y dirigido han ganado 85 premios
nacionales e internacionales y más de 400 selecciones por todo el mundo.
En 2016 escribe, produce y dirige su primer largometraje titulado
“Errementari”, Una película de género fantástico basada en el cuento del
folclore vasco “Patxi Errementaria”.
Paul Urkijo Alijo, 1984. Since he was a small child he has exhibited an interest
in drawing and comics. He delved into the world of literature, mythology,
comic and film, and has a predilection for fantasy.
In 2008 he finished his degree in Fine Arts and began his professional career
with a focus on audio-visual production, illustration and infographics.
He started writing and directing his own short films, both live action and
animated.
Films he has written and directed have won 85 national and international
awards and his works have been featured in 400 festivals worldwide.
In 2006 he wrote, direted and produced his first feature film: “Errementari”
inspired in the Basque fable tale “Patxi Errementaria”.

txikitatik izan du marrazketa eta istorioekiko zaletasuna. Literatura,
komikiak eta zinema ezagutzen hasten da, fantasiazkoa batez ere. Ipuin
tradizional eta mitologia irakurle sutsua.
2008an, Arte Ederretan lizentziatzen da, eta ikus-entzunezkoak,
ilustrazioa eta infografia egiteari ekiten dio, modu profesionalean.
Fikziozko eta animaziozko film laburrak idazten eta egiten hasten da.
Paulek zuzendu eta idatzitako film laburrek estatuko zein nazioarteko
85 sari irabazi dituzte, eta mundo osoan 400 alditan baino gehiagotan
hautatu dira.
2016 garren urtean, “Errementari” izen buru duen bere lehen filma
idatzi, zuzendu eta ekoizten du. “Patxi Errementaria”, euskal ipuin
folklorikoan oinarritua.
