1.0 GENERAL

1.1 Introduction

1.2 Scope of Work

This document contains the details related to pile build -up works of under cast piles of Propo sed

Construction of Housing for Relocation of Underserved Settlement Project Phase II in the City of

Colombo at Henamulla.

Scope of the pile build - up works consists of the followings

1. Hacking th e pile up to sound concrete level in such a way the re-bar cage could

accommodate the lap length of build - up cage.

2. Re-bar cage lapping

3. Formwork System

CONSTRUCTION METHODOLOGY

2.1 Hacking-the pile up to required level

The pile should be exposed up to the required level. Piles t o be build-up shall be hacked up to

th e sound concret e level in such a way th at the pile re-bar cage could accommodat e the lap

len gth of the build -up cage. The so undness & th e level of concr ete shall be j oi ntlYChecked

by the Engineer & the main Contractor.

2.2 Reinforcement Lapping

(

The required length of the re-bar cage shall be lapped w ith existing pil e re -bar cage. M ain

bars, spirals & ancho rage length shall be jointly checked by th e Engineer & the contra ctor.

2.3 Formwork System

Here we plan to use two types of formworks as described below.

2.3.1 Steel Formwork

Two parts of semi-circular steel casing will be installed at the correct position with

maintaining verticality using timber and steel bracing .

2.3.2 Masonry Formwork

Here square or circular shaped masonry formwork will be prepared using bricks or blocks.

Diameter of the circular wall shall be similar or slightly larger than the diameter of the piles

and the dimension of the square formwork will be equal to the diameter of the pile cap of the

particular pile.

2.4· Concrete pouring

Before th e commence men t of co ncrete pouring (C30) follo wings shall be ensured.

1. Re-bar cage arrangement (covering and position)

2. The locati on of th e stee l casing (ver ti cality and position). For th e ma sonry formwork syste m

set ti ng out work et c to be carried out at th e beginn ing

3. Height of.the.steel casing. For th e maSQDI'iJormwork wall height sb.o..uldm at ch with th e cut

off level at the pile.

4. Wheth er the bondin g agent has been appli ed to th e ex ist ing co ncre te surface.

5. Seal the formwork syst em withoyt leaking concrete grout.

Having ensured the above, concrete shall be commenced w ith presence of Engineer.
Concrete pouring shall be st opped at required cut-off level.

3.0 SAFETY MANAGEMENT

Health and safety w ill be the respon sibility of the Co nst r ucti on M anager and will be regular ly

supervised by company' s M anagement. The nece ssary action with regard to health and

safety aspect will be auctioned to sui t with the ma in contractor's / conforming to Project

Consul tant's requir ements.

Site engineer w ill be responsible and co-ordination of the works for the package . All Site

staff and operatives would be request ed to sign a code of conduct and name a responsible

per son / person s in respect of safety and follow the similar system / methods currently

practiced and further improve or upd ate to suite the requirements of th e contract personal

protective equipment shall be used as appropriate according to the nature ofthe job.

4.0 QUALITY CONTROL

In respect of on-site installation, the total control activity would be concerned with applying a

rigorou s submission / approval docum entation system and shall be coordinated with all

concerned for systematic and progre ssive accomplishment of the Job.

The sourcing of the materials for each and every trade, will be from a single approved trader /

manufacturer wherever possible, in order to maintain consistency and quality of the items.

Finally, to summaries, in order to guarantee the quality and standards, company always work

to adhere to recognized international practices and rules governing the material, engineering

and workmanship .
