From the Middle School Office

Dear Parents:

As part of our Wellness program and ongoing commitment to health education, consultants from Freedom
from Chemical Dependency (FCD) Educational Services will visit ISM from September 13 – 17. FCD is a non-
profit organization that provides substance abuse prevention education for schools and colleges in the United
States and around the world.

Since 1976, they have taught over a million students of all ages. Their mission is to:
• Provide educational communities with the guidance and training necessary to implement comprehensive,
effective approaches to substance abuse prevention
• Educate students, parents, teachers, and school administrators on the physiological and psychological
effects of alcohol and other drugs
• Promote awareness of drug addiction, including alcoholism, as a progressive, chronic and often fatal
disease
• Teach students and adults how to recognize the early warning signs of substance abuse and to intervene
appropriately
• Empower young people to make healthy, responsible choices regarding alcohol and other drug use
• Encourage and support the non-use of alcohol and other illegal or illicit drugs during the growing years.

A parent meeting on Tuesday, September 14 starting at 10:15 A.M. in the Little Theater has been
scheduled and all parents are invited to attend. For the duration of their stay, FCD presenters will meet
with students, counselors, wellness teachers and administrators. Based on feedback from last year, we are
confident that this program will be a valuable educational experience for our school community.

We hope you will join us on Tuesday, September 14.

Updating Parent Contact Information

In order to best serve the ISM Parent Community it is essential that information be quickly disseminated
when necessary. For this reason, the accuracy of your contact details in our data base is of the utmost im-
portance. Please note that Parent Contact Information must be updated online by the parent. However sub-
mitted information will be screened for correct format and the parent may be called for clarification. To
make any changes or verification in contact information, please access one of your children’s data file via
the ISM website (www.ismanila.org) and then under Login, click on Powerschool Public Access and enter
your Username and Password.

On the page that opens, click on the Demographic Update icon for changing or updating demographic infor-
mation. Note that if there are siblings also enrolled in ISM, changes will automatically be made in the data
files of all other enrolled siblings in the same family at the same time.

schools.

The students all improved their times significantly with many of them improving their time
by 2 minutes. Go ISM!!

Hosting for ISM ISTA Festival

ISM is excited to be hosting this year’s ISTA Middle School Theatre Festival! The International Schools Thea-
tre Association (ISTA) facilitates two MS festivals each year in Asia, which provide an amazing opportunity for
international students from around the world to engage in new theatrical experiences and to develop skills
that will deepen their passion for performance. As a school, ISM has been a proud supporter and participant
of ISTA, and we now have the opportunity to give the participants an experience they will never forget! We
will be hosting the first ever Musical Theatre ISTA festival, and we are very excited about welcoming other
international students to the Philippines and to our wonderful school.

The ISM ISTA Festival will take place November 19-21 (Friday to Sunday), and will involve as many as 100 stu-
dents from other countries, as well as our own ISM participants. As with any event, the whole ISM commu-
nity has the opportunity to get involved in this Middle School event. The most significant way for the ISM
community to get involved is to provide housing for the visiting students. If you are able to host some stu-
dents, you may contact the ATAC Office and/or the Fine Arts Office at badiangoj@ismanila.org and/or
talense@ismanila.org . Most guests will arrive on November 18th and will depart on either November 21st or
22nd. If you would like to help out with organization or facilitation during the ISTA Festival, you may also
contact Vicki Close in the Fine Arts Office (closev@ismanila.org) for more details on how you can help.

note the game schedule does change often due to involve-
ment with many local schools so please check the page
regularly to find out the latest information of where and
when the Bearcats teams are playing.

Regular Opening Hours for the Bearcat Den are Mondays,
Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:15 A.M. – 1:15 P.M. and
2:15 P.M. – 4:15 P.M.
If you would like to join the Bearcat Den team of volun-
teers and contribute to school life with a fun group of peo-
