At universities and colleges, sports and social activities are just as important as classes and

libraries and should receive equal financial support.

Universities are an important institution for developing any society, but, in most of the
cases, the financial support is a problem to solve. As a consequence, I regard that classes
and libraries should receive more founds rather than sports and social activities. This is
not only because more resources would increase the education’s quality, but also because
the university could buy books for students and, additionally, create programs for
promoting unknown disciplines.

First, the education’s quality is a fundamental subject for any country. Nevertheless, the
financial support is the main issue to achieve this goal. Thus, if the universities received
enough resources, they would be able to solve several problems which hamper a better
education. For example, the Universidad de Chile is one of the most important
educational institution in Latin America. However, since the government has decreased
the financial support for this university, they have started to reduce their influence and
prestige within the region. Consequently, some reports highlight that its libraries do not
have a good service, and its scholars have started to search another place for working.

Second, students usually consider that universities do not have enough materials for
developing their majors in an efficient way. Thereby, with a good financial program they
could deal with this problem. For instance, the students of the Philosophy department of
the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile have had problems for buying books for two
years. But this situation has changed. A group of teachers has managed to develop a
crowdfunding program which has helped them to purchase all the resources that they
need for studying. Furthermore, even they have bought one of the best editions,
increasing the student’s performance.

Finally, universities normally have some classes with poor student’s application. Even
though these majors have interesting subjects and qualified scholars, they do not have
resources for promoting efficiently. That is why I consider that money helps to make
known these courses. For example, in my university, the aesthetics programs have few
students applying every year. And, one of the most important reasons is a small number
of undergraduate knows about what this discipline is.

To conclude, economic resources are fundamental for any university. With a good
financial situation, an institution could increase its educational quality, buy enough books
for its students and promote unknown classes. For all those reasons, I strongly believe
that classes and libraries should receive more funds rather than sport and social activities.
