Tell Me About…
Generate Language Map Wizard (Expandable Tool)
What you need to know
In a real edgeConnect solution, you are going to add and want to localise lots of text not only within a single Project
but rather when working with multiple Projects. Developer provides you with an Advanced Generate Language
Map wizard to help you to localise text across all Projects that comprise your solution. This is one of your Expandable
Tools.

Language
What you need to know
A Language allows you to localise your solution. Each Language is bound to a Language Map Document; a Generated
Document that initially contains all default solution text. You edit a Language Map Document to add locale specific
text.
Connect XML Language Map: An XML Language Map Document that you can edit using Language Map
Editor.
Excel Spreadsheet Language Map: A Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet that you can edit using Microsoft Excel.
XLIFF Language Map: An XML Language Map Document that you can edit using an XLIFF Editor.
A Language has a Source ISO Language Code and a Locale Specific ISO Language Code.
A Language can apply to all solution Presentations or to one or more specific Presentations. This allows you to
selectively localise parts of your solution.
You can mark a checkbox to automatically load a Language (into RAM memory on the Web Server computer) at
solution startup. Alternatively, you can build a Load Language Map Rule to load a Language (into RAM memory on
the Web Server computer) at any time.

Exercise 6 » Add an Error Management Phase to Manage Language Map Rule Errors
Step-By»-Step
Errors can occur when using the Load Language Map Rule and the Set Language Map Rule. For example, if you
misspell the name of the required XML Language Map Document an error is thrown. The Rules allow you to specify
the name of a Phase to jump to when an error occurs.
The following steps show you how use Process Editor to add a new Phase to the Error Management Process to
manage Language Map Rule Errors.
1. Select Window menu » Process Editor.
2. Expand Error Management Process.
3. Right-click General Error Phase » Copy.
4. Right-click Error Management Process » Paste.
5. Expand General Error – Copy Phase.

9. Right-click Language Map Rule Error Phase FEAtures Info Note » Properties.
10. Enter new Note text.
A Language Map Rule Error occurs when an XML Language Map Document cannot be found and when an
Alias is misspelt.

60
Figure 58 It is best practice to use a Container Rule to manage Rules that you want to run when your solution starts.
Best To make it easier for you to correctly select the Startup Rules that you need within the Project
Practice Properties dialog it is best practice to add all of your functional Rules to a Container Rule. A
Container Rule is essentially just a grouping mechanism.
We’ll create the Container Rule; then we’ll add a Load Language Map Rule to the Container Rule as we want to Load
our Language Map into RAM memory when the FEAtures solution starts. Our solution will know that the Container
Rule is going to be used as a Startup Rule because we’ll update the Project Properties dialog Startup Rules property.
61
So to begin! The following steps show you how to use the Rule Editor to add a new Container Rule.
1. Select Window menu » Rules Editor.
