Gossman’s Residence
Residential Patio Plan 13-16

Since a young age I have recognized my passion for designing. As a child I spent numerous
hours drawing cities, building many things with Legos, and designing homes on the Sims.
I always knew my career path would be somewhere in the design field. It wasn’t until I was
browsing college majors that I discovered landscape architecture. After researching the scope Avenue of Champions Brownsville Town
of the field, I instantly knew that it is what I have a passion for, because it perfectly matched Streetscape Plan Square
my interests of designing and of exploring and experiencing the outdoor world. Stadium Entrance and Streetscape 1-6 Small Town Master Plan 17-22
I feel that everyone has their own unique ability to make an impact on the world. In my case
that is through landscape architecture. I look forward to the opportunity to use my skills to
transform places and create inspiring environments that bring people together in locations
all over the country and the world. Aegon Building Plaza Grading and GIS Work

Out of the classroom my hobbies and interests are traveling, photography, working out,
socializing with friends, and participating in sports.

The following section of works contains graphics that I created during my three years of
undergraduate classes and internships at the University of Kentucky. I hope you enjoy. Finding Composition in

Memorial Coliseum is the home

to the University of Kentucky’s
Women’s Basketball and Volleyball
teams. It was also once the home
for Kentucky Men’s Basketball as
well. The intent of this project was
to create an aesthetically pleasing
streetscape plan and entrance to
the coliseum while showcasing
its history. The main feature of
the design is the eight bands of
charcoal gray pavers, each one
representing a Men’s Basketball
National Championship. Each band
of pavers is labeled with the year of
the championship, making a stroll
down the sidewalk a walk through
history. The other main feature of
the design is a large marble statue
of the University of Kentucky logo.
The statue will serve as an excellent
photography feature for visitors.
There will also be nine statues of
relevant figures during the years of
Memorial Coliseum places around
the site.

Main Entrance The main entrance plaza incorporated three different sized stone pavers and an
alternating arrangement of grass beds and raised planter beds. The stone planter
walls can also serve as seating walls for visitors waiting outside the coliseum. This
space also features the 12 foot by 12 foot marble statue of the University of Kentucky
logo centered in front of the main entrance.

Terraced Walkway
and Seating
Phase 2 of the project located
on west side of the coliseum
incorporates terraced walkways
with planters and seating along
the hillside. The mid-leveled
terrace has a stone planter bed
that also serves as a seating wall.
There are four pockets created
that are perfect locations for
students to relax or do homework.

Aegon Building Alternative Concept Plan
Master Plan
Plaza
Louisville, KY
4/28/16

This projected was based on

an existing plaza in Louisville,
Kentucky. The intent was to
analyze the site and to create a
design that flows well with the
space and incorporates a large
sculpture piece. The sculpture that
I created consisted of two large
metal columns that frame the front
entrance of the Aegon Building. The
jagged edges of the sculpture set the
tone for the rest of the plaza design,
helping to form the composition. Perspective of Sculpture Piece
The design goal was to enhance
the flow of people to the Aegon
Building and to the neighboring
Panera as well as enhancing the
aesthetics of the space. The final
step of the project was to create an
alternate site plan that was inspired
by another students plaza design
while still maintaining the flow of
my own plaza. This alternative plan
incorporated more rounded edges
and portrayed a different style of
flow.

Finding Composition The Design Process
in Chaos
1/8/16

The goal of this project was to

create a composition for a city park
design out of random chaotic lines
and shapes. The process started
with taking a white sheet of paper
and coloring aimlessly on it, as well
as splattering it with paint. Then
taking a 1” by 1” square viewfinder,
I located the most appealing section
of lines and shapes that formed
a composition. This composition
was the foundation for the plan.
The three phases of the designing Phase 1: Drafting multiple concepts and refining the final plan
stage are pictured to the right. After
finalizing the plans, the design was
then implemented on a 12” by 12”
chipboard square. The elements
constructed in the model include
an artificial pumped river, wooden
bridge walkways, two small dining
areas, an amphitheater, and lots of
tree cover.

Phase 2: Creating the base foundation of the Phase 3: Creating the structural features and
model vegetation

Contours Plan
Gossman’s Master Plan
Residence
10/15/17

The main focus of this design

was to create a large outdoor
living space that functionally and
aesthetically worked well with the
lay of the house and the property.
The main walkway up to the
house is surrounded with a large
amount of shrubs and grasses that
provides a pleasant approach to the
residence. The larger vegetation
around the property brings a sense
of enclosure to the site but also
leaves open the view down to the
Details
creek. A grading plan was created
for the changes made with the
addition of the large patio and the
stairs down to the lower fire-pit
area. The upper patio is mostly
edged with retaining walls, which in
some places can double as seating
walls. Several of the construction
details were created for certain
features around the site.

The main feature of the plan is the pergola covered bar area. This area includes a
fireplace oven, a grill, along with bar top seating. The other major feature is the
fire-pit with a stone seating wall surrounding it. The fire pit sits at a lower elevation
from the main patio area creating a more inclusive place to relax by the creek.

Town Square

Brownsville, KY
12/3/17
Master Plan
Brownsville is a small town just
outside of Mammoth Cave National
Park. It is a town that has been on the
decline since the 1980’s and lacks a
sense of identity. My class met with
community members and used their
feedback to develop a comprehensive
plan for Brownsville. My focus area
became the town square. The goal was
to create a space that could help to
provide a sense of destination for the
town and start to incorporate some
character back into the community. Town Square Analysis
The main aspect of the design is a
large scale street enhancement plan Legend
on Cross Street. The design includes
a three foot landscape bed on both
sides of the street, as well as several
landscape beds that extend out into
the street, breaking up the large open
pavement space and providing a space
for tree plantings, for shade and for
aesthetics. The plan also proposes
multiple cross walks and bike lanes on
Main Street to increase the walkabilty
and bike friendliness.

17 Brownsville Town Square Brownsville Town Square 18

A trail-head kiosk is also proposed in the square, providing information
Entrance to Cross St off of Main St on local outdoor activities and hiking. The town square re-design
will also feature multiple bike racks which coincides with one of the
community goals of increasing cyclist recreation.
