DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

Dear Friend,

Vanakkam! Greetings from IIM Tiruchirappalli!

Welcome to IIM Tiruchirappalli. IIM Trichy is the 11th

IIM in the country. Presently, we offer the Fellow
Programme in Management (FPM) - our doctoral
programme, and the two year full-time Post Graduate
Programme (PGP) at our Tiruchirappalli campus and
an evening executive programme - Post Graduate
Programme in Business Management (PGPBM) at
the Chennai Centre.

The business environment all the over the world is going through a turbulent period. Competition is intense,
product life cycles are shortening, traditional business models are getting challenged and innovations
and intellectual property are the buzz words. If change is the only constant, continuous learning is the
only way to adapt best to the changes. We at IIM Trichy acknowledge this. Indeed, our motto Gyanam
Anantham - Knowledge is endless - is borne out of our fundamental belief that continuous learning is the
strong foundation for better value creation.

Consistent with our vision, and our constant endeavor to shape management thought and practice at
various levels, IIM Trichy is proud to launch the sixth batch of evening Post Graduate Programme
in Business Management (PGPBM) for working executives at our Chennai Centre starting August 2017.
The programme is designed to groom working executives who aspire to move into leadership roles within
and outside their organizations. The programme will equip the participants with relevant conceptual,
analytical and interpersonal skills. More importantly, the programme aims to develop the leadership
capabilities of its participants to act as change agents and make positive contributions to their
organizations and the welfare of society at large. On successful completion of the program, the
participants are welcomed to the prestigious IIM Trichy Alumni Association and also become members of
Pan-IIM Alumni Association.

Come! Take your career to new heights!

Jai Hind!
Best wishes,

Dr. Prafulla Agnihotri

PROGRAMME CHAIRPERSON’S MESSAGE
Dear Friend,

Greetings!

The business world today is going through tumultuous changes with Britain exiting
the European Union and the early signals from Trump’s America hinting at a
protectionist future. Academic experts around the world are prophesizing the
advent of a new macro-trend, viz. de-globalization. Firms set in the context of this
macroeconomic change are uncertain about the global prospects of their existing
business. India, with its economic interconnections with the rest of the
industrialized world, will not be completely insulated from whatever future these broader forces at play may
create for us. What is certain though is that the new future may render our current skills less relevant,
mechanize some of the jobs we carry out, while opening up novel opportunities in forms and scale
unimaginable today. The only option available to working executives to prepare themselves for the uncertain
journey is continuous learning tailored to the needs of the prevailing business environment. The fact that you
are contemplating a big leap towards an additional formal education is testimony to the fact that you have
recognized the urgency and importance of continuous learning.

The Post Graduate Programme in Business Management (PGPBM) was launched to cater to working
executives who desire to transition from technical to leadership roles within their organization or outside it.
Over the years, this programme has grown in strength and has undergone changes in structure and design.
From the academic year 2016, the programme is being offered on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, keeping
in mind the professional commitments of the working executives. The uniqueness that sets this programme
apart from comparable peers is its in-class nature and the scope it provides for engaging in and learning from
one’s own experience. The entire programme is delivered through direct interaction between faculty members
and students in physical classrooms and at convenient times, thereby preserving the rigour and individualized
attention a programme of this nature demands.

We understand that you are making a significant commitment in terms of time and effort, and are looking for
serious learning experience. It is our endeavor to provide you as much information as possible to help you
make an informed choice. In keeping with this spirit, the programme brochure highlights in great detail, among
others the objectives, scope, eligibility and academic requirements. Please take time to review the brochure
and visit our website for any additional information that you may need. You may feel free to write to me
(pgpbmchair@iimtrichy.ac.in) and are welcome to visit our Chennai Centre (Mondays to Saturdays: 2 PM to
10 PM; Sundays: 10 AM to 6 PM) to see our facilities and know more about the programme.

Get ready to make the big leap!

Best wishes,

Professor Mukundhan K.V.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT

The candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of
the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently-abled (DA) (It may
also referred to as Persons with Disability (PWD) category)], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated
by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of
Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an

CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate's CGPA by the
maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
The institute uses the concept of credit to define the weightage of a course in the curriculum. Courses are
listed as one, two or three credit courses depending on an indicative workload for each course. The
generally accepted thumb rule is that a three credit course involves about 100 hours of work, of which 25%
is spent inside the class room and the balance outside the class in preparation and assignments. One and
two credit courses would have a proportionately lesser workload.

Preparation for the classroom entails preparation both before and after the class. Prior to the classroom
session, students are required to prepare for the assigned case, go through the assigned readings and work
on exercises and assignments, among others. Subsequent to the class session, students are required to
review and reflect on the session, and prepare for the components of assessment.

In the programme the following type of courses are offered:

 Core courses are compulsory for all students and offered in the first five terms of the programme.
 Electives are courses which are chosen by the students and are offered in second year. The student
has to take a minimum total of 45 credits in electives over the last four terms.

INDUSTRY PROJECT

The industry project is a multifaceted, capstone project that serves as a culminating academic and intellectual
experience for the PGPBM students. The industry project nurtures critical thinking and develops research,
analytical, planning and goal-setting skills that can facilitate the participants’ successful transition from the
classroom to taking up challenging professional assignments. Participants are urged to pick out a challenging
problem for investigation either in their affiliate organization or in the industry their affiliate organization
operates in. The project demands an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving, requiring participants to
synthesize and integrate knowledge and learning gained from different subject areas or domains of
knowledge. The project also encourages participants to connect their projects to contemporary issues or
problems in organizations, thereby integrating their classroom learning with professional experiences and
scientific observations. PGPBM students are required to work on the industry project for a period of 12 weeks
under a Faculty Mentor of their choice. The project will be evaluated by a panel constituted by the PGPBM
Committee, and a ‘Satisfactory’ rating on the evaluation is required to complete the programme. The best
industry projects rated by the PGPBM committee will also be recognized with a merit certificate.

“This course is really good for working executives, as I enjoy the teachings of dedicated professors. The
entire course is a pre-planned to which our able professors have given enough foresight. The professors are
experts in the subject area and have years of experience in the field. The Centre is in the heart of city, which
makes travel easy. This course comes with no excess fees for books, facilities (Library, Wi-Fi, and additional
working hours at the Centre) or any additional materials as the institute bears the costs. It’s like pay fees and
enjoy the shared learning (Focus only on the learning). It’s more of shared learning and hence a good
experience.
R Lakshmana Sudhir, Principal Consultant, Cognizant Technology Solutions

take me higher than where I am. I feel my life has already changed for better. After 8 months and in Term 3,
PGPBM is making every effort to transform me from a highly technical role to Technical Leadership role

choosing PGPBM over the regular. The course is a complete package for any budding, practicing or
experienced managers. We'd to put ourselves into the shoes of different roles during the course which has
eventually enriched us with a 360 degree view of every perspective management deals with.
S Prabhu, Senior Software Engineer, MPhasis

“The programme is flexible, yet maintains the rigour required at the Institute of this nature. Courses are well

echelons of corporate leadership.
P Santhanam, Senior Manager – HR, Perfetti Vanmelle India Pvt Ltd

“This is the most structured program I’ve experienced and a lot of foresight and planning has gone into its
making and execution. If I have to describe it, I would say that it is synonymous with the institute’s motto
“Knowledge is Endless”. The faculty members are very experienced and they constantly push you to excel,
unearthing the best in you. Personally, I have changed the way I look at people, problems and organizations.
The Case Study method, conceptual and peer learning has molded me to suggest and take better decisions
at my workplace. This is one amazing, life changing ride that you need to hop onto. It will equip you with the
tools, techniques and qualities of a manager that the society seeks today. There is a saying “Future dividends
are created in the factories of present investments” and I can proudly say that, this is the best investment I’ve
