Simple Present Tense

The simple present tense in English is used to describe an action that is regular, true or
normal.

We use the present tense:

1. For repeated or regular actions in the present time period.

 I take the train to the office.

2. For facts.

 A dog has four legs.

3. For habits.

 I get up early every day.

4. For things that are always / generally true.

 They speak English at work.

We form the present tense using the base form of the infinitive (without the TO).

In general, in the third person we add 'S' in the third person.

Subject Verb The Rest of the sentence

I / you / we / they speak / learn English at home

he / she / it speaks / learns English at home

Past Tense

We use the past tense to talk about:

 something that happened once in the past:

I met my wife in 1983

 something that happened again and again in the past:

When I was a boy I walked a mile to school every day

 something that was true for some time in the past:

He enjoyed being a student.

 we often use phrases with ago with the past tense:

I met my wife a long time ago.

Irregular verbs

Ejemplos:

Pasado participio Pasado Simple Presente infinitivo

bought bought buy
eaten ate eat

Siendo muy común que cuando nos presentan las listas de verbos irregulares siempre
nos presentan tres columnas, donde están el presente, pasado simple y pasado
participio.

Por lo tanto se recomienda que los verbos irregulares se tendrán que memorizar en su
tres modalidades, pues son indispensables para formar oraciones, y así poder expresar
y escribir en Inglés en diferentes tiempos. ¡Animo!!!! Es la llave del éxito.

Present tense.

Mornings (habits)

Every weekday morning my alarm clock rings at 7 o’clock and every weekday morning I
try to ignore it. I do not like mornings! I hide my head under the covers and I pretend
that it isn’t really morning. I groan. I complain. I say nasty things about mornings. Some
mornings I fall back to sleep for a few minutes! After a short time, I realize that I have to
get up. I sigh. I struggle out of bed and I start my day.

Past tense

My Weekend

I had a great weekend! On Saturday I slept late and then went out for dinner with some
friends. We had a really good time. On Sunday I went shopping in the morning for
groceries. In the evening I went to see the ‘Vivid’ light show. It was really beautiful.

The weekend was a long weekend, because Monday was holiday for the Queen’s
birthday. I went for a drive to see a waterfall. It started to rain, but we walked from the
car to see the waterfall anyway.”

How about you? What did you do last weekend?

The Future Tense

"Visiting Her Majesty"

I will travel to London to visit the Queen of England. Being a clever fellow, I will disguise
myself as a prince and walk into Buckingham Palace as if I owned it. After receiving
directions from a chambermaid, I will step into the Queen's bedroom and surprise Her
Royal Highness with a hearty slap on the back.

Then, of course, I will tip my hat, bow, and deliver the usual compliments. After
uncorking a bottle of champagne, we will exchange pleasantries and talk about our
families for more than an hour. I will show her my photograph album and my stamp
collection, and she will show me her historic collection of jewels. After a thoroughly
entertaining visit, I will trade email addresses with Her Majesty and then kiss her
goodbye—on the fingertips of her white gloves, of course.
