CASE ANALYSIS No. 1

ALMA ELECTRONICS: I’ll Dream of You

I. Background
In 1979, Mr. Andy Mallari opened a small shop selling transistor radios and other
electronic parts in Cabanatuan City. Because of his business, he was able to save money and
purchased a 300 square meter lot and built a two storey building. By 1990, he expanded his
business in other big towns of San Jose, Gapan and Guimba in which his current operations covers
sales and repairs.
Mr. Mallari’s perspective was changed drastically when he met his former classmate
Estelito Chan who now has a successful and well-established appliances assembly plant in Manila.
Mr. Chan didn’t start big but rather as a subcontractor for a large assembly plant until he was able
to establish his own factory.
Mr. Mallari has three sons, all belonging to the top ten in their respective classes. His oldest
is about to enter college and he is thinking of sending him to an engineering school. He thinks all
his sons have potential to help him build his own assembly plant which he want to achieve in the
near future.

II. SWOT Analysis

Strengths

Weakness
Opportunity
Threats
 Intense competition in other local electronic shop that can decrease the sales. Lower pricing
and number of competitors can also affects this.
 Unwillingness of his sons to enter engineering or other related courses can also affect the
business in the future.

III. Recommendation
Base on the story, Mr. Mallari is a good decision maker and a role model to his children.
He started from a small business until he became a successful one. If he wants to fulfil his dreams,
he should not worry about his future plans and the education of his three son.
This are the recommendation that I considered:
a. Mr. Andy Mallari should suggest the following courses to his three sons if he wants his
three son to continue the business or fulfill his dreams to have his own assembly plant. Namely,
Electrical Engineering, Accountancy, Business Administration and other related courses that can
help the business.
b. Mr. Andy Mallari must consult his sons about his dream to have his own assembly plant
that will flourish as the same way his friend’s business did. If they will agree, they must choose a
course that will fit to the business.
c. Mr. Andy Malllari should also consult his friend about the business. He must know about
every details about the operation. Because a single mistake can cause a big problem to the business.

IV. Reaction
Running a small shop is difficult. It requires hard work, high amount of time and skills.
The owners must look forward on how to improve the business and to make decisions that can
make the business good or bad.
Mr. Mallari handles his business well. From a small shop, it expands and continuously
picking well. This transition certifies him as a man of wise-decision maker as well as a good father.
He shows that even a small business can grow bigger no matter what is the risk will it be.
Even if his old enough and already had a successful business. He continues to dream bigger
not only for himself but also to his family.
