I agree to the proposition that the mining industries be totally shut down at all costs.

I have 3 main
points that support my argument:

 The total ban of mining rests on the reasons that mining activities have various destructive
effects on natural resources such as the destruction of the natural habitat of different animal
species. It must be noted that the dumping of chemicals in the mining could also pollute the
other areas near the mining sites.
 Capitalists emphasized that ‘mining companies provide jobs in the most remote areas of the
country’, but we cannot deny the fact that getting people out of poverty is not the job of these
mining companies. In the case of the CARAGA Region, mining operations had been shut down
on the ground that mining industries did not eradicate the poverty in the said area.
 Mining creates a huge impact on local communities as it affects the livelihood and agricultural
sectors and it puts extreme stress on food security, health, and respiratory diseases because of
huge environmental, social and cultural costs. Furthermore, mining companies who promised to
provide scholarships and livelihood to the affected people are mere palliatives in comparison to
the massive environmental destruction and are long-term negative heath impacts of
unsustainable mining practices.

Consequently, individuals have the duty to consume natural resources responsibly. The advocates for
responsible and sustainable mining such as the Bishops of the Catholic Church and Leftist groups
challenge those mining companies to balance man’s self-interest and nature’s stability. People who are
in large mining corporations have firmly practiced their goals of achieving their self-interests forgetting
the fact that these are the reasons why there is an imbalance in the biotic community. Ergo, we should
stop spoiling the land and shut down mining industries to nurture the environment for the sake of the
future generation.
