Topic: The Chinese Dragon, Lesson 2- Family members
Materials: textbook, workbook, handouts, cards, laptop
Time: 50 minutes
Subsidiary aims: - to reduce Teacher language in class activities and to provide
more learner interaction.
Lesson aims:
- to be able to name the position of an object.
- to be able to use the words naming family members.
- to be able to use properly the possessive adjectives.

Skills involved: speaking, reading, writing, listening.

Anticipated language problems: Ss may be a little bit noisy during the first
speaking activity. Because the level of the Ss, those with a poor level, may have
some difficulties in placing in the right position the doll, and some words
regarding family memebers.

Possible solutions: T tries to encourage them in the activities she had prepared
for them always encouraging them and telling them not to be afraid of making
mistakes, telling them that mistakes are their best friends. Teacher will be
preapared to practice together with the Ss.

ACTIVITY 1. Warm-up

Aims: -to make Ss feel comfortable in the class.


-to motivate and involve Ss by means of personalisation.
Procedure: T asks the Ss: „How are you today”, „ Who wants to tell me what day
is today?” „Have you written the date on the blackboard?”. Ss answer the T’s
questions. T also tells them that for the begining they are going to play a game
called „I spot with my little eyes something that begins with..............”. T examples
them that for this game they simply have to look around and spot a thing, then
they have to say: „I spot with my little eyes something that begins with A”, and
then they name the word. T gives them an example: „ I spot with my little eyes
something that begins with F, -flower.
Timing: 5 minutes
Interaction: T – whole class.

ACTIVITY 2. Checking homework


Aims: to check accomplishment of given instructions.
Procedure: T asks Ss what was their homework for that day. Ss answer that their
homework were ex 6, 7 from their notebook.Then Ss read their homework on
turns.
Interaction: T-whole class.
Timing: 7 minutes.

ACTIVITY 3. Linking previous knowledge to the new material( speaking activity)


Aims: -to review Ss’ knowledge on letters of the alphabet and some prepositions
of place .
-to create interest in the topic.
Procedure: For this activity T brings into the classroom a box and a doll. T tells
Ss that she is going to place the doll in different positions with the box and that
they have to say where is the doll. For example the T puts the doll above the box
and then she asks: „ Where is the doll now?” Ss answer : „The doll si above the
box” and then T contiunes to place the doll in differnt other positions and the Ss
name them. At the end T asks them for being so active.
Interaction: T- whole class.
Timing: 5 minutes.

ACTIVITY 4 . Introducing new language

Aims:- to be able to use the newly acquired language.


-to envolve all Ss in an engaging lesson
-to name their family members in English.
- to describe the relation of family members to each other.
Procedure: T tells Ss to pay attention to the blackboard. T draws on the
blackboard her own family tree, she tells Ss not to write anything just to pay
attention. For each word and family member T also places cards( annex1)
showing the picture of a grandmother or grandfather, etc. T explains Ss that what
she has written and drawn on the blackboard is called a family tree.T then aks Ss
some questions like : „who is Laura for me?„” Who is Letiţia for me?”. Ss
answer these questions with the Teacher’s help. Then T tells Ss to write in their
notebooks the words naming family memebers. T takes the pictures she has
placed on the blacboard and asks Ss questions, in order to see if they recognize
the members of the family, using the question: „Who is this?”

ACTIVITY5. Practice

Aims: -to be able to match the words they have acquired with some pictures
Procedure: T tells Ss to open their boks on page 23 and to try to match the
words at the bottom of the page with the pictures from the famliy tree given there.
T tells Ss that they can work in pairs for this activity. T mentions them that they
have 4 minutes to do the exercise. At the end T checks if the learners have the
correct answers.
Interaction: Pair-work
Timing: 5 minutes.
ACTIVITY 6. Production

Aims: - to work on the vocabulary taught.


Procedure: T gives Ss a handout(annex2 )on which they have different exercises
to solve regarding the newly acquired language. T explains what they have to do
and then gives Ss 10 minutes to solve the exercise. Before solving the exercise T
tells Ss that they are going to listen to an English song about family members. T
palys the song for them twice, also asking them to repeat and to try to sing.

Timing: 15 minutes.

ACTIVITY 7. Giving homework

Aims: to practice more the new vocabulary.


Procedure: T tells Ss that their homework for the next time will be ex ..........T
appreciates their activity during this hour, she gives those who were active and
very active a red point. T also wants Ss to help her with the very last activity and
she tells them to try to think at the things they have done today and to help her
write on the blackboard: „Today’s agenda”. T together with the Ss name the
activities they have done today.
