MGT2100 OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

Learning Outcomes:
Successful students will be able to demonstrate their Operations Management knowledge in
writing the assignment by analysing any one of the assigned Operations Management concepts or
theories and relating the contents to the concepts and theories learnt in class.

Question:

Consider yourself as an operation manager for a successful local food and beverages company in
Kuala Lumpur. The top management of your company has decided to expand your business in
West Malaysia at the end of 2018. You are assigned with the following task:

NYONYA COLORS
Nyonya Colors specializes in premium homemade quality Nyonya Kueh and cuisine. As an
operation manager for a successful local food and beverages company which is Nyonya Color in Kuala
Lumpur. Nyonya Colors has 11 outlets in Malaysia in shopping mall, we decided to expand our business
in West Malaysia at the end of 2018 to reach out the crowds easily.

Identify and discuss the strategic and tactical decisions for your new business outlet (10 Marks)

Nyonya Colors makes the best quality Nyonya Kuih. Therefore, we have to make it known to the publics
by setting the strategic and tactical decisions. Firstly, we will promote Durian Kuih in Durian seasons to
fulfill the Malaysians’ appetite. Durian Kuih can be sold or customers who have spent more than RM 50
can get 2 pieces of Durian Kuih. Next, we will make a new recipes on Chinese New Year which is Halal’s
‘Lou Sang’ make with Malacca brown sugar gravy so that non-muslim and muslim Malaysian able to
enjoy the must-have prosperity dishes in Chinese New Year.

Whereas, our strategic decisions are Nasi Lemak ice-cream to be the publics’ hot topics and slowly
spread it abroad. Then, we will have lucky draw vending machine which have gone viral in Malaysia
these 2 years. Therefore, customers who have spend RM 30 get 1 token. However, the vending machine
needs 2 tokens for a spin, with attractive prizes in the vending machine such as discounts in a hotel in
Malacca, food vouchers, free flight tickets to Malacca and others to attract customers.

How you are going to add value to your business in the new location (10 marks)

Market research are carried out to ensure there are people around and the shops can be seen from
the drivers on the road. Therefore, it would be placed in USJ 9 which have 8 tuition centres around
and 2 church, these 2 are the places where crowds would gather together, our target customers are
very wide, when people spend without heavy burden.
