ALTOSONIC IV – built to last

ALTOSONIC IV provides maximum accuracy, even under extremely harsh operating conditions.
Miniature all metal transducers integrated in the meter body and an encased cabling system, the
ALTOSONIC IV is an extremely robust provides protection against mechanical damage, and thus
ensures stable and long-term measuring behaviour that is insensitive to interference.

Menu-driven parameter and diagnostics software

Menu-driven parameter and diagnostic software is provided with the ALTOSONIC IV. The software program
provides access to all system parameters, displays comprehensive diagnostics, and can be used as a
convenient tool for the logging of data. Self diagnostics provides reliability on whether the measurements are
within specifications.

Functions
• Logging data and parameter logs
• System diagnostics and troubleshooting
• Graphical representation of the received signal
• Customer-specific parameters

Measuring principle
ALTOSONIC IV operates just like all KROHNE ultrasonic flowmeters, by the transit-time differential method.
This measuring principle is based on a simple physical principle. Imagine two canoes crossing a river
diagonally, one with the flow and one against the flow. Naturally the canoe that is travelling with the flow will
reach the opposite side sooner that the canoe that is travelling upstream. Acoustic signals behave in a
comparable way.
By means of ultrasonic transducers, the transit time of acoustic signals that travel upstream and
downstream are measured. The difference in transit time is proportional to the mean gas flow velocity and is
transformed into an output signal and display of volumetric gas flow rates. The 4 measuring beams are
positioned in such a way that the influence flow profile disturbance is largely reduced.
