" This you know well and you glory in it. To your Filipinos owes the beauty of the diamonds that stud
her crown. She has given the stones, Europe has polished them. And we contemplate proudly, you
your work, ours the flame, the breath, the materials provide. "

EXPLANATION:

In this phrase, Rizal was labeled as a Filibustero in a sense that he engaged in a Revolutionary movement
which he cooperated in a certain act. Considering the phrase we can say he has put treason on the way
he decided to collaborate with other State supporting its revolutionary movement as he expresses "
ours the flame, the breath, the materials provide". I can say that he betrays his own country in particular
as he decided in general that the Filipino people will support the other state without the proper
approval of the Filipino citizen. Although the said state provided beautification to the country, still it is
our land and owning it means a lot to us.

If the mother teaches her child her language in order to understand its joys, its needs, and its woes; so
Spain, like that mother, also teaches her language to Filipinos, in spite of the opposition of those
purblind pygmies who, sure of the present, are unable to extend their vision into the future, who do
not weigh the consequences.

Like sickly nurses, corrupted and corrupting, these opponents of progress pervert the heart of the
people. They sow among them the seeds of discord, to reap later the harvest, a deadly nightshade of
future generations

EXPLANATION:

The time, the Philippines was under so much oppression by the Spanish friars that is impossible to talk
about it in public unless you would want to be incarcerated as a filibuster. He also acknowledges that
the Philippines owes Spain in some way saying “Spain as a mother also teaches her language to
Filipinos” but then frowns bitter on the “midgets who secure their position.” Apparently he is making a
jab at the elite who does everything they can in their power to stop the education of Filipinos in fears
that they may learn to defend themselves, which apparently still rings true nowadays. This attitude, as
we know it, backfired against them big time.

Luna and Hidalgo are as much Spanish glories asthey are Filipino. Just as they were born in the
Philippines, they could have been born in Spain, because genius has no country, genius blossoms
everywhere, genius is like the light, the air, it is the heritage of all - cosmopolitan 2 like space, like life
and like God

EXPLANATION:

Rizal fearlessly exclaims the reason why they are gathered and that is to signify a milestone that had
shed light into what has turned out to be a dark society visualized in the painting. He also gives praise to
Hidalgo for illuminating the different ends of the globe and how high a respect he has for them. The
speech made effective use of signposting, internal summaries, and transitions. He was able to present a
logical progression of ideas as well.

"The patriarchal era of Filipinas is passing. The illustriousachievements of her children are no longer
consummated within the home.”

EXPLANATION:

He claims change is coming as he used the metaphors such as the “illustrious achievements of
[Philippines’] children are no longer consummated within the home.” This is a clear nod to the Filipino
community in Madrid who organized the event. His faith on the youth at that time is derived from the
inner passion and how their actions have started to create a great difference and contributed to the
glory of the uprising.
