CHAPTER – I
INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE COMPANY
1.1 INTRODUCTION
India is the second largest producer of textiles and garments in the
world. The Indian textiles and apparel industry is expected to grow to a size of
US$ 223 billion by 2021, according to a report by Technopak Advisors. This
industry accounts for almost 24% of the world’s spindle capacity and 8% of
global rotor capacity. Abundant availability of raw materials such as cotton,
wool, silk and jute as well as skilled workforce have made the country a
sourcing hub

The textiles industry has made a major contribution to the national

economy in terms of direct and indirect employment generation and net foreign
exchange earnings. The sector contributes about 14 per cent to industrial
production, 4 per cent to the gross domestic product (GDP), and 27 per cent to
the country's foreign exchange inflows. It provides direct employment to over
45 million people. The textiles sector is the second largest provider of
employment after agriculture. Thus, growth and all round development of this
industry has a direct bearing on the improvement of the India’s economy.

1.2 GROWING DOMESTIC MARKET

India has a strong population base with the largest Gen Y population in
the world, coupled with a growing economy. Around 65 per cent of Indians are
under the age of 35 and as this population joins the workforce, they will have
increased the spending power that will ultimately lead to increased domestic
demand for textile and apparel items. Increasing women workforce is another
major factor boosting the apparel market in the country.

Urbanization and rurbanization are other important factors shaping the

Indian consumer spending habits. Citizens are migrating from rural to urban

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING IN LOOCUST INCORP 1

P.G DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE WITH INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

areas in search of job opportunities and better amenities, while steps are also
being taken to improve facilities in rural India. The ballooning middle class is
also boosting Indian consumption patterns. The number of households with an
annual income of more than $14,000 has increased at a CAGR of 11 per cent
since 2005 and is expected to increase at the same rate for the next 10 years.
The number of households earning an annual income ranging from $4,000 –
$7,000 grew from 11 million in 2005 to 55 million in 2016 and is expected to
reach around 95 million by 2025. The current apparel market of India is
estimated to be around $63 billion out of the $80 billion domestic T&A market
and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 12 per cent for the next 10 years to
become $180 billion.

1.3 POSITIVE OUTLOOK IN INTERNATIONAL MARKET

The Indian textile industry is seeing a positive growth not only in the
domestic market but also in the international market. Currently, India has a
share of around five per cent in global T&A trade, which stood around $765
billion in 2016, while China has a share of 36 billion. Over the past years,
China has taken advantage of its vast human resource, low manufacturing
costs and large-scale infrastructure to become a manufacturing hub for the
world. This has allowed China to have high year-on-year growth of its apparel
exports till 2006.

China’s labour pool is shrinking, exerting pressure on wages. Apparel

manufacturing, being a labor-intensive industry, has been facing tremendous
pressure because of rising wage cost. China is also shifting its focus to more
value-added segments like aerospace, nanotechnology, robotics, etc. Moreover,
the Chinese apparel market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10 per cent over
the next few years and become $615 billion market by 2025 from the current
market size of $237 billion. The focus of the Chinese industry is expected to
shift from exports to catering to the increasing domestic market. Given the shift

P.G DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE WITH INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

in Chinese focus, India has the opportunity to expand its presence in the
international market as well.

Financial statements need to be produced at given time intervals, for

example at the end of each financial year. Trial balances are extracted from the
ledger entries to create a Balance Sheet showing the assets and liabilities of a
business at the year end. In addition, records of purchases and sales are
totalled up to create a Profit and Loss (P&L) account.

3. Providing management information

Managers require ongoing financial information to enable them to make

costs to produce a particular product or service, in order to assess how much
to produce and whether it might be more worthwhile to switch to making an

involves the provision of information to managers for ongoing decision making,
and financial accounting which is concerned with the preparation of financial

previous time periods.

3.8 MARKETING DEPARTMENT

a) FUNCTIONS OF MARKETING DEPARTMENT

Marketing might best be defined as all organized efforts, activities and

expenditures designed to, first, acquire a customer and, second, maintain a
customer. (It should be added at a profit.) The Marketing Department is a unit
of organization, traditionally charged with carrying out specific tasks that are
deemed to be "marketing" (such as advertising, market research).

1. Identifying the important constituencies within the marketplace. Yes,

there are customers and prospects, but there are also groups that set rules and
regulations, influence or recommend, establish barriers, service the product
after the sale, review the product. All of these groups and more are
constituencies that play a role in the successful marketing of a product or
service.

2. Identifying and valuing specific target purchaser/user groups for the

product. (Also known as target audiences or market segments.). Marketing
should answer the questions focusing on who will be a likely prospect, who will
be the best customer. Keep in mind that within the target audience there may
be groups that will be readily obvious as "end users" but there may also be

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING IN LOOCUST INCORP 32

P.G DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE WITH INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

groups that specify, recommend, purchase, service, pay for; without a great
stretch of the imagination, they may all be considered customers or prospects.

3. Communicating with the marketplace. This function may involve

traditional communications disciplines (public relations, advertising, sales
promotion, face to face selling) along side new disciplines (the Internet). Each
target audience segment within the marketplace may play a different role in the
success of marketing so different techniques or disciplines may be required to
communicate effectively. Objectives need to be set for each discipline used and
for each audience group or segment that is targeted.

4. Conducting transactions with the marketplace. Most people think of

marketing activities as advertising or promotional events very visible, very
costly. But other interactions are part of the marketing process and should be
viewed as such. (Here is where the outside-in perspective of marketing plays a
vital role.) Order processing is not just an inventory transaction, but a
marketing one as well the timely delivery of a product in good condition goes a
long way in helping establish a positive attitude about the company and
provides another reason for the end-user to purchase again and to recommend
the company and its products to others. Payment processing is not just a
financial transaction; it is an important element in the marketing process
payment is what is given in exchange for the item that will satisfy a need .
5. Obtaining on-going feedback from the marketplace. An important
function of marketing is to measure the performance of the enterprise in its
efforts to acquire and maintain customers. Establishing performance metrics is
often an afterthought in the planning process and, in many instances,
superficial.

b) MARKET SEGMENTS

 Develop high quality products and services for the following sectors:
 Machine tools
 Energy production facilities

c) DISTRIBUTION CHANNELS

Most businesses use third parties or intermediaries to bring their

products to market. They try to forge a "distribution channel" which can be
defined as "all the organisations through which a product must pass between
its point of production and consumption" Why does a business give the job of
selling its products to intermediaries? After all, using intermediates means
giving up some control over how products are sold and who they are sold to.

The answer lies in efficiency of distribution costs. Intermediaries are

specialists in selling. They have the contacts, experience and scale of operation
which means that greater sales can be achieved than if the producing business
tried running a sales operation itself.

3.9 CONCLUSION

Analyzing of the functioning of various departments to conclude that at

present the state of the concern is not satisfactory. Since the product has a
high market various innovation step can be taken to improve profitability
position. The company has registered an all round improvement in all the three
divisions but in terms of turnover and profitability.

CHAPTER – V
FINDINGS, SUGGESTION AND CONCLUSION
5.1 FINDINGS
 Exporting units maintaining quality and also to have greater control over
the production process, the portion of work subcontracted gradually
declines.
 Demand for garments of standards such as basic T-shirts produced for
exports is not large enough in the domestic market which could induce
larger investments or new start ups at the higher scale.
 The Government needs to take a planned policy decision to close down
non-competitive manufacturing units.
 The government should arrange the market and commodity research
programmes, provide export publicity and dissemination of market
information.
 Increased maintenance of condensing zone which adds to cost.

5.2 SUGGESTION

 Labour intensive process and requires thorough checking of every piece

 Poor reproducibility of shades
 Special care in the selection of fittings.
 Lower twist can be employed in doubling, to improve the strength of
yarn.
 The government should encourage the exporters to participate in foreign
trade fairs and exhibitions.
 The company may try to fix good package system for the skilled and
talented workers which will help the company to minimize the labour
turnover and also to maintain the quality in the products continuously.

5.3 CONCLUSION
The training helped me to improve my personality and it motivates me to
start a new business in future. Hence the employees are the back bone of any
organization that brings prosperity and growth of organization development is
possible through the employee’s attitude, which is realized through the training
program. There are various departments in the organization like purchase
department, stores department, production department, human resource
department, finance department and sales department. Each department in
the company provides much information.
