To Whom It May Concern,
I am interested in applying for a teaching position in your school district. I will be a 2018 graduate
of the Faculty of Education, University of Windsor in the J/I division with a math teachable. I have
student teaching experience at the sixth-, seventh-, eighth-, eleventh- and twelfth-grade level at
schools within the School Board.
During my practicums, I have had the opportunity to gain experience at a variety of schools each
with students of varying levels of abilities and diverse backgrounds. Due to my experiences, the
classroom culture I create is shaped to uniquely fit the needs of the classroom. My most recent
placement consisting of eight students with Individual Education Plans operated differently than a
previous placement with more academically inclined students. Having a personal pedagogy that
relies on student-centered learning requires me to understand the students’ capabilities while also
building rapport with the students of the class. This in turn assists in creating a classroom
environment that promotes personal growth as well as student well-being.
As a math graduate, I am fortunate to be coming into the teaching profession when math has
become a focus in the province. Despite my success in the subject, I understand the difficulties
that may arise for students in this area. I have had the opportunity to utilize some of the current
approaches to teaching math with overwhelmingly positive results. These approaches have made
math more accessible for weaker students while still allowing stronger students to challenge
themselves. Additionally, using appropriate strategies and terms is emphasized in my classroom
as it alleviates confusion for students later in their academic careers. Although I have a lot to offer
in math, I view myself as an educator first and value my efforts in all subjects as well as being an
active member within the school community.
Sincerely,
Justin Payne
