1.0 General system description

The central vacuum system has been designed for the continuous operation to supply air
at a freely selectable rated value of the suction pressure between 1000 and 1 mbar abs.
With an output of 2x100%, this system is redundantly designed pump system. Even if
one vacuum pump fails, the complete required capacity is available.

The desired suction pressure of the central vacuum system is controlled by adjusting the
vacuum pump speed depending on the requirement.
In normal mode, both vacuum pumps work in tandem and share the load. In order to
ensure an uninterrupted operation even if one vacuum pump fails, the other vacuum
pump
is immediately adjusted as per the other pump’s operating speed and takes over the
operation.

2.0 Head control unit

The higher-lever control unit has the following functions:
- Interface between the vacuum pumps and the customer’s process control system
(data recording and and forwarding)
- Visualisation of the process image
- Process pressure controlling
- Vacuum pump controlling

The rated process value and the start/stop of the vacuum system are configured using an
input in the head control unit. Values of the system can be sent and displayed by
communicating with a process control system of the customer (Profibus DP); a control
unit is not required for this.
The process pressure is recorded in a redundant manner.

3.0 Visualisation
3.1 Start-up page
The start-up screen shows the status of vacuum pumps. Correctly integrated and
activated pumps are shown as available ‘Online’.
If the key-operated switch is switched on, the system can be started, stopped and the
rated value can be changed from the start-up screen.

3.2 Pump-specific visualisations

Valve positions, pump temperatures, pressures and pump parameters are shown in
pump-specific visualisations. These are only meant for display.

3.3 Pressure controller

If the key-operated switch is activated, control parameters can be changed here. Values
are automatically stored and are available even after restarting the control unit.

4.0 Automatic mode

Prerequisite: Key-operated switch switched on ‘1’

A popup window is shown when the operator presses the input field directly. The
operator must set the rated value and confirm with ‘Enter’.

Pressing the start button starts both vacuum pumps in parallel mode. When the rated
value of the pressure controller is achieved, the suction-side valves of pumps are opened
and the system is in the vacuum mode. The vacuum mode indicates the feeding
operation of pumps.
The pressure is regulated using the variable pump speed.

Picture 2:

Switching off the key-operated switch by setting it to position ‘0’ will prevent the operation
of the head control unit. The current status of the system is not hampered.
