MTR SYSTEM ®
MTR® System
New, advanced designing process, better performances. The MTR® System Thus preserving the setting of a typical building site for concrete structures,
represents the most reliable system belonging to the composite steel- we do not use beams made on site, but only prefabricated composite
concrete structures. steel beams which are delivered to the construction site ready for being
assembled.
The system comprises three types of trusses (type A, T and C). It is used
to build horizontal structures and it can partially or totally replace the main
and the secondary beams.
WHAT IS THE MTR® SYSTEM?
The MTR® System is composed of three different types of trusses having their pertaining calculation system for
the designing process:
The MTR® A Beam is self-supporting during the assembly and casting phase of the floor. It has a steel
bottom plate.
The MTR T Beam has to be shuttered and propped during the assembly and casting phase of the floor. It does
®
not have the bottom plate and it is completely embedded in the cast-in place-concrete.
The MTR C Beam is self-supporting during the assembly and casting phase of the floor. It has a concrete

bottom plate.

WHY CHOOSE
Advantages
Speed of execution
The speed and the ease of assembly of the structures allow you to gain
time and save money.
Reduction of concrete
The section of the MTR® Beams are smaller than the ones in reinforced
concrete beams.
Self-supporting feature
The advantage of self-supporting beams is to reduce the buckling
effect on columns and accelerate the execution of the work.
CERTIFICATIONS
The tests are carried out in collaboration with official and authorized
laboratories according to the article 20 of the Law 1086/71, in order
to verify the applicability of calculations theories. Tests, controls and
structural inspections are also carried out in the case of non-common
situations or of structures bearing higher loads.
CE MARKING
The CE MARKING appears on all the Metal.Ri products according to the EN 1090-1:2012.
Metal.Ri controls the production in the factory in conformity to the requirements of the Maximum Execution
Class of EXC4.

management system and all the existing legislations offering guaranteed
products to the customers.
THE HANDLING An anti-rust primer is always distributed on both sides of the bottom plate of the MTR® A Beams
while the plaster adhesion primer is applied only on the visible surface.
OF THE BOTTOM PLATE
In this way, the protection of steel increases and the surface is ready for plastering.
When the coating is required, as in the case of a predalle slab floor or false ceiling, the plate only
receives the anti-rust primer.
The MTR® A Dropped Beam is subject to the same treatment of the MTR® A Flat Beam: beside the
plate, also the beam-ends are visible so they need to receive the primer and, eventually, the plaster
adhesion primer.
The bottom plate of the MTR® A Spandrel Beam is subject to the same treatment of the MTR® A Flat
Beam (only primer or primer + plaster adhesion primer) while the ends of the extrados receive only the
primer since, once the work will be finished, they will be protected by an exterior primer.
The MTR® C Beam has not the bottom plate but a finished concrete intrados so it does not need
particular treatment.
FINAL
COATING
ARCHITECTURAL
AND SRUCTURAL
THINNESS
The MTR® A Beam, with the steel bottom plate, is self-supporting during the assembly
and casting phase of the floor. It allows to meet the architectural requirements so it
represents the alternative and ideal solution against the limitations of the traditional
systems.
This building structure solution makes possible to build structural frames no
matter what seismic design category combining different kinds of floors
according to the building and its function.
The beam is self-supporting during the assembly and casting phase of the floor so
its static behaviour depends on the two different building phases of the structure:
Phase 1: until the concrete consolidation, the MTR® A is self-supporting and
functions as an isostatic lattice metallic structure.
Phase 2: after the concrete consolidation, the self-supporting MTR® A beam is tied
to adjacent structural support members. It becomes a hyperstatic structure with a
resistant composite steel-concrete section.
JOINT REINFORCEMENT
The MTR® A Beam is delivered to the site
with the continuous reinforcing bars for
beam to column connections. It is made of
concrete reinforcing steel B450C.
18
19
MTR® A Beam The MTR® A Beam follows the rules of NTC 2008 concerning the beam to
column aspect ratio. Therefore, it is possible to build columns having reduced
sections.
Both smaller sections and the self-supporting feature reduce the buckling on
the columns, so less reinforced concrete is needed at the joist level and it
becomes easier to respect the capacity design procedure based on column
– beam joints.

LIGHTWEIGHT
PREFABRICATED
STRUCTURES FOR THE
TRADITIONAL BUILDING
SYSTEMS
The solution that replaces the traditional reinforcing bars with improved adhesion
to assemble on site: a lightweight prefabricated construction system that can be
combined with traditional building systems. It is the ideal solution for residential
buildings. The MTR® T Beam is not self-supporting and must be placed on a
formwork or on the slab of predalle floors. The MTR® T Beam can be used to make
slim floor beams where it is not possible for the ordinary reinforced concrete. The
sections of the MTR® T beams will help you to respect easily the aspect ratio beam-
column imposed by the NTC 2008, without oversizing the pillars to create integrated
beams. The MTR® T beams can be combined with any type of floor and vertical
structure since standard dimensions do not govern their production. They can be
used in the building sectors where the self-supporting feature is not indispensable,
both for new constructions and for the recovery of existing buildings.
JOINT REINFORCEMENT
The MTR® T Beam is delivered to the
site with the continuous reinforcing bars
for the beam to column connections. It is
made of concrete reinforcing steel B450C.
DESIGNING FREEDOM
The buildings made of MTR® T Beams have
floors with completely flat intrados, thus
there are no beams sticking out of frames
placed at the central or perimeter frame.
This provides maximum design freedom,
consequently there are no constraints while
designing the interior layout of the rooms
which will not have and spandrels beams.

MTR C BEAMS ®
MTR® C Beam
FIRE-RESISTANCE
These beams are the best solution where buildings require fire-resistance.
The concrete bottom plate, whose dimensions are conveniently realized, functions as
formwork and support for the floor.
The MTR® C Beam is suitable for any kind of floor or vertical structure, both self-
supporting and non self-supporting structures, to build shopping centres, multi-
storey parking, hotels, convention centres, schools, bridges and industrial
buildings.
The beam is designed in our factory. It is self-supporting during the assembly
and casting phase of the floor so it avoids using formworks and props. Its static
behaviour depends on the two different building phases of the structure:
Phase 1: until the concrete consolidation, the MTR® C is self-supporting and
functions as an isostatic lattice metallic structure.
Phase 2: after the concrete consolidation, the MTR® C beam is tied to adjacent
structural support members. It becomes a hyperstatic structure with a resistant
composite steel-concrete section. The bottom-chords are embedded in the concrete
plate whose size and concrete quantity are designed accordingly.

STRUCTURAL JOINTS
THE BEAMS OF THE MTR® SYSTEM LIE ON VERTICAL SUPPORTING ELEMENTS, COLUMNS AND WALLS TROUGH AN
APPROPRIATE SUPPORT SYSTEM WHICH IS WELDED AT THE END OF BEAMS. IT IS CUSTOM-MADE IN ORDER TO
AVOID INTERFERENCE WITH THE STARTER REBARS.
The B450C steel bars for reinforced concrete allows making structural
joints that connect the elements of the MTR® system with the adjoining
supporting elements, such as continuous beams, partition walls and
columns.
After concrete maturity, the elements of the MTR® system are considered
as composite steel and concrete structures, but the section where the
beam anchors to the column is a section made of normal concrete, from
a bending point of view.
The design of the beam-to-column joints assures the necessary dissipative
and ductile behaviour while following the criteria of capacity design.
Stirrups providing confinement of the concrete are placed at the level of
the connection joints, according to minimum rules (Para. 7.4.3.2.1 of the
NTC 2008).
The beams of the MTR® system are provided on site with the reinforcing
bars made of steel B450C to make connection joints.
The MTR® system is simple and quick to assemble. It does not require the use of specialized workers.
LABELS Assembly diagrams accompany each delivery and each beam arrives on site marked for identification
by a label that indicates the beam position.
Even the additional reinforcement bars used for the beam-column connection are wrapped and
provided with an identification label that indicates where exactly to place them and they also have to
be assembled according to the assembly diagrams.
