- oCAD is a software application for Computer-Aided Drafting(CAD). The

The latest AutoCAD releases are AutoCAD 2013 and AutoCAD 2013 for Mac. The
release marked the 27th major release for the AutoCAD for Windows, and the third
consecutive year for AutoCAD for Mac.

e PARTS OF AUTOCAD
We divide AutoCAD in three parts according to working:
A. 2D
B. Advance Commands/ Productivity tools.
C. 3D
y
(A) 2D(2Dimension)
In this section we come to know how to draw 2D drawings in
AutoCAD.
2D means two dimensional objects .In 2D we show only two
dimension of an object like :
LX B=Plan
BXH =Elevations I sections 1- - - - - - - x
2DUCS
LXH=Elevations/ sections.

In 2D there is only 2 co-ordinates x,y because of these co-ordinates we show only

2 dimensions of an object.

~ c
3D means three-dimensional, i.e. something that has width, height and depth (length).
Our physical environment is three-dimensional and we move around in 3D every day.
There are three axis in 3D - X , Y , z.

WORK SPACES OF AUTOCAD

- ..stly we discuss about workspaces of AutoCAD:

Lets see screen of different work spaces of AutoCAD:

DRAFTING & ANNOTATION

HATRONYKS
AutoCAD Interface Elements
1. Your AutoCAD drawing area or viewport : This is where you will drawing your
AutoCAD objects.
2. AutoCAD Ribbon : This is where you can access AutoCAD tools and settings.
3. AutoCAD Ribbon has several tabs : Each tab holds AutoCAD tools based on your
drawing task. For example, we can use drawing tools and modify tools in home
tab. But when we need to add text and dimensions, we need to open the Annotate
tab. When we need to insert blocks, we need to move to insert tab.
4. In each tab have several panels : These panels have similar AutoCAD tools inside
them.
5. Command Line : We can activate tools and change the tool settings by typing in
command line. Command line is also providing information what you should do
next.
6. Drafting Settings : While we draw, we need to change some drafting settings. This
is where you can change it.
7. The AutoCAD logo : Click it once.
8. AutoCAD will show you the AutoCAD menu : Some will say 'application menu',
since the application name is AutoCAD, I prefer to call it AutoCAD menu:) This is
where you can access tools related to applications, such as saving files.

_ will see a rubber band line which shows you where the line will be drawn when the

You can also draw lines by entering the co-ordinates of their end points at the
command prompt rather than picking their position from the screen. You can also draw
lines using something called direct distance entry or point fixing methods.

In the example given above, we drew the rectangle(5X2) by line(fig:1). We gave
the point information that is asked by AutoCAD by entering real coordinates in form of x,
y.

(B) Relative Rectangular Co-ordinate System

Entering relative coordinates is entering another point as referenced to another point as
it can be understood from its name. Format of entries in relative rectangular co-ordinate
system:

(C) Relative Polar Co-ordinate System

Another co-ordinate system that you can use to enter points is POLAR coordinates
system. It fs a coordinate that is reached by a distance and an angle from a certain origin
point. We know that angles increase in counter clockwise direction.

Entering coordinates by using AutoCAD drawing aid (dynamic) tools:
If you select a point on the screen by using your mouse cursor, then you cannot
enter and exact coordinate. Of course, it would be better if we could have entered the
exact coordinate that we wanted just by using the mouse cursor. Since AutoCAD 2000,
entering coordinates by using mouse cursor has been improved. And in final versions
AutoCAD 2012 and 2013, this has been improved even better. This is called dynamic
coordinate entry in AutoCAD. Now, let's take a look the subject by giving some examples:
Angle by cursor, but distance is dynamic:

2001

FIG. 5
As you move your cursor and approach to angles that are defined in POLAR
settings, then you will see that your cursor is locked on that angle. As the cursor fs
locked, then we can move as much as we want that along the angle we are locked onto.
Angle locked, distance fs dynamic:

ifferent Selection Methods

There are some methods which are used to select objects. They are following:

(a) Window Selection

The Window option is invoked by typing Win response to the "Select objects" prompt.
Window allows you to define a rectangle using two points. Once the window is defined,
all objects which lie entirely within the window will be selected.

(THE WINDOW SELECTIO~ BOX IS SHOWN (ONLY OBJECTS ENTIRELY WITHIN

AS A RECTANGLE WITH A SOLID LINE) THE WINDOW WILL BE SELECTED)

Specify opposite corner: (pick second corner)
Select objects: (at this point you can either select more objects or .J to complete
the selection set and continue with the current command.)

b) Crossing Window Selection

e Crossing Window option is invoked by typing C at the "Select objects" prompt and is
a variation of the Window command. The command sequence is exactly the same but
jects are selected which lie entirely within the window and those which cross the
. 'ndow border.

GJ:.9
tp
(THE CROSSING SELECTION BOX IS SHOWN (OBJECTS WITHIN AND CROSSING

1wing:
c Implied Window Selection
• ough you can explicitly invoke the Window and Crossing Window selection boxes by
=--ering W or C at the keyboard when prompted to "Select objects", in practice this is
>rompt.
_ .. ely done. Both of these selection options are so commonly used that AutoCAD provides
efined,
ethod of implied windowing so that you don't have to use the keyboard at all. You can
:est this out without using any command. If you pick a point in space on the graphic
dow, you will notice that AutoCAD automatically assumes that you want to define a
.se ection window and uses the pick point as the first point of that window. If you move
--e cursor to the right of the pick point you will get a Window selection box (solid line). If
move the cursor the left you will get a Crossing Window selection box (broken line).
· · a little bit of practice the use of implied windowing can make the whole drawing
-ocess very efficient and you will rarely find yourself having to explicitly invoke the
dow selection options from the keyboard.

The Undo Option

-often happens that you inadvertently add objects which you don't want to a selection
se· during its compilation. When this occurs in the middle of a complicated selection it
::a be pretty annoying. Fortunately AutoCAD allows you to undo the last selection made
::ring the compilation of a selection set. All you need to do is enter U at the next "Select
- jects" prompt to remove the objects previously added.

e) Selecting All Objects

e All option is invoked by typing ALL at the "Select objects" prompt. You can use this
1plete : tion to select all the objects in the current drawing, no picking is required. Objects on
_ocked or Frozen layers are not selected but objects on layers which are simply turned
-f are selected.

CAD DESK
HATRONYKS
(f) Fence Selection
The Fence option allows you to draw a multi-segment line, like a Polyline. All objects
which cross the fence will be selected. The Fence option is invoked by typing F at the

(g) Window Polygon Selection

The Window Polygon option, invoked by typing WP is similar to the Window option exce
that you can define an irregular polygon shape within which objects will be selected. 1

with the Window option, only objects which fall entirely within the polygon will t
selected.

) Crossing Polygon Selection

-..,e Crossing Polygon option can be used in exactly the same way as the Window Polygon
:;)tion but it has the same selection criteria as the Crossing Window option, i.e. objects
l be selected if they fall entirely within or touch the polygon boundary. This option is
•oked by typing CP at the "Select objects" prompt.

•Ote : Lines, polygons and windows drawn using the selection options do not exist as
drawing objects. Once the selection has been made they disappear.

Using a Previous Selection

--toCAD always remembers the last selection set you defined. This is very useful because
1ce :: .. may need to make a number of changes using different commands to the same group
:<'objects. In order tore-select the last selection set you can use the Previous option.
--e previous option is invoked by typing P at the "Select objects" prompt.

Selecting the Last Object

pt can select the last object created by entering L at the "Select objects" prompt.
As Object Cycling : When drawings become complicated it is sometimes difficult to
be := ect the particular object you want because it is either very close to or overlies another
-:~ect. In such a case it may happen that the other object is selected and not the one you
~ t. Object cycling is designed to overcome this problem. If you make a pick whilst
-: ing the Control (Ctrl) key down, AutoCAD will respond with "<Cycle on>". If you
:: ·nue to pick, each object near the pick point is highlighted in rotation. Just keep
-: : ·ng until the object you want is highlighted, then right-click or , AutoCAD responds
<::ycle off>", the required object is added to the selection set and you can continue to
== ect more objects as normal.

• Adding and Removing Objects

--:oCAD provides two methods for adding and removing objects to and from a selection
-=:. As you know, objects can be added to a selection set simply by picking them or by
_- g one of the methods outlined above. You can remove selected objects from a
ection set just as easily by shift picking. If you hold the Shift key down on the keyboard
-=c

CAD DESK
HATRONYKS
while picking a selected object, that object will be deselected (removed from the
current selection set). You can tell when a selected object has been deselected because
it is no longer highlighted. You can remove more than one object at a time by holding
down the Shift key while using implied windowing. However, none of the other selection
options which require keyboard input will work using the shift pick method.
If you need to remove a more complex selection from the current selection set
you should use the Remove option to switch to Remove mode. If you enter R at the
"Select objects" prompt, AutoCAD will respond:
Remove Objects : Objects now picked or selected using any of the above
methods will be removed from the current selection set. When you have finished
removing objects, you can return to Add mode by entering A at the "Remove objects"
prompt.
You can use any combination of picking, selection options and add/remove modes
to define your selection set. Once you are happy that you have selected all the objects
you need, just hit to complete the selection process and to continue with the current
command.
Tips 8: Tricks: When you are picking objects in a complex drawing, use the ZOOM
command transparently to make object selection easier. All Zoom
options selected from the toolbars are automatically transparent but if
you invoke the command from the keyboard you will need to enter
'zoom' or z.

(A) Ortho Mode : (ORTHO or F8)
Ortho is short for orthogonal, which means either vertical or horizontal. Like the other
options on the status bar, Ortho is not really a command, it is a drawing mode which can
either be turned on or off. Ortho mode can be toggled on or off in one of three ways. The
quickest way is just to click on the ORTHO button on the status bar. The appearance of
the button tells you whether Ortho is currently turned on or turned off. When Ortho is
turned on, the ORTHO button appears pressed in. Ortho can also be toggled on and off
using the F8 Function key.
Ortho mode is probably the simplest of all the drawing aids, and historically one
of the oldest. It is either on or it is off and there are no special settings to make. Also, it
does a very simple job; it constrains drawn lines to the horizontal or the vertical. You
may not be surprised to learn, therefore, that its use .has largely been superceded by
more recent features, particularly Polar Tracking, described below.

(B) Object Snap 0

Object snap is a tool that you can use to refer for a location from existing objects. For
example, a center point of an arc or circle. You can snap to a reference point after you
see the snap symbol on that point. Below is an example for midpoint snap.

Object snap is only working when AutoCAD is asking you for a point. You will not
see the object snap symbol when AutoCAD is not asking for point. ·

Object Snap Settings

There are many modes of object snap you can use. Activating all of the object snaps is
not a wise decision. You will find difficulties snapping to objects when you have complex
drawing. You need to decide which object snaps you commonly use. To activate or
deactivate object snaps, you can right click on object snap button, and choose the object
snap.

(C) Polar Tracking

When you draw an object, and your pointer is about parallel to AutoCAD axis, what wil
happen? It's getting sticky and the angle show multiplication of 90 degrees. This is the
polar tracking. It will track your pointer when at certain angle and snap your pointer. Ym.

to draw parallel lines. Simply move your pointer, snapped to the axis and type the
desired distance.

By default, it will track your pointer when it's at 90 deg, 180 deg, 270 deg, anc

and choose incremental angle from the list.

At the top are two checkboxes for activating Snap or Grid; their associatec
function keys (in this case F9 and Fl) are listed next to them in case you don't want tc
open the box just t<;> turn them on or off.
In bottom of the box the Snap type area. There are three different Snap method_
you can use. The first two are Grid snaps, Rectangular and Isometric, and they work alan§
a grid system where the axis are either orthogonal (90 degrees) or isometric (combina
tions of 30 and 60 degrees). The third snap type, Polar, creates snap intervals along
whatever polar tracking angles you happen to be using. It's a little hard to describe, bu
if you try it you'll figure it out pretty quickly.
Once you've selected a Snap type, you can set your spacing. Since only one Snap
type can be active at a time, the spacing for the inactive method is grayed out. In this
case, that means that the Polar spacing is inactive. When setting Rectangular spacings,

HATRONYKS

: .... can choose to force the X and Y spaces to be equal, or you can uncheck the "equal"
:: and use different values. If you're using an Isometric snap, you only get to pick one
= e - the other spacing is calculated based on the value you choose. Same goes for
- _ ar- you only need one value, since the angle is controlled by another variable (the
:::..ar tracking angles).
You can also choose Grid settings on this tab. The Grid is just a visual indicator of
_ :ances and spacing- by itself, it won't help you choose points more accurately, but it
give you a general idea. In typical everyday 2D drafting it shows up as dots, but if you
=: SHADEMODE to Hidden, the grid becomes lines. It's often used in conjunction with
:-::>, since you can't see the one and you can't snap to the other.
There are two areas on this tab dealing with Grid settings. Under "Grid spacing",

J
=-can set your X and Y spacing (they can be the same or different), and how often you
to see a "major" line, or a line that is darker than th·e rest. The major line setting

J
-

applies when your SHADEMODE is set to Hidden.

Grid behavior controls how the grid looks as you plan and zoom. Turning on
- - ::::otive grid means that as you zoom out, the dots or lines will adjust themselves so
're not left with a completely cluttered screen. Checking the secondary box, to allow
_

__ ivision of the grid, means that as you zoom in you get extra indicators, even if you
-- e a wide spacing set. Choosing to display the grid beyond the limits means that it will

Instead of creating a new linetype , you will have to LOAD it into your drawing.
AutoCAD has many different linetypes that you can load, as well as giving you the optior
to create your own. (This will not be covered in this lesson. ) To load a linetype, press the
_boad . . . button that is towards the top-right corner. When you do this, you'll see another
dialog box appear (shown above ) .
Notice that AutoCAD i s giving you a choice of different linetypes as defined in the
acad. lin file. Scroll throueh the list to see what options you have available. You'll see the
most common ones (hidden, center, etc) as well as some that are only for certain appli
cations. Click on the Hidden linetype and then press OK.
Adding a linetype to your drawing is that easy. Notice that there are three
different hidden linetype options: HIDDEN, HIDDEN2, HIDDENX2. All of these a re valid
linetypes, but as you can see from the samples shown in the right side of the dialog box,
they are slightly different. Which one you choose is up to you. Remember one thing
though. If you pick HIDDEN2, then you should also pick CENTER2, if you need a center
line. This will keep your linetype scale consistent. Only change your linetype scale singly
if you have a specific reason to.

Filleting Parallel lines

Not all the lines to be filleted need to have an intersection point or to intersect if they
were extended. Fillet can also apply an arc to lines that are parallel. Use Snap and Ortho
to draw two parallel lines with different lengths as shown below.

Apply the Fillet command to the lines at both right hand ends, picking the shorter
one fi rst. The fillet is positioned so that it is trimmed back to the end of the line you
picked first regardless of length. The size of the radius is adjusted to join the lines with a
semicircle regardless of the fillet setting.
------

CAD DESK
HATRONYKS
Undo the fillet and then re-install the Fillet com and and apply it again picking
the longer line fi rst. This time the radius is positioned at e end of the longer line and
the shorter one is extended.

__ ___)
Install the Fillet command again to see that the radius used to fillet the parallel
lines is only a temporary value and the Current value remains unaltered.
Now, Fillet has one more very useful function.

initial arc remains, but the corner will also be squared off as the current radius setting is
overridden and becomes a value of 0.
Another option is to set the radius to 0 and then Fillet. Draw two lines like those

Polylines

Command: Polyline
Alias : Pl
Home Tab ---? Draw Panel ---? Polyline ____)

Use: The Polyline or Pline command is similar to the line command except that
the resulting object may be composed of a number of segments which form a single
object. In addition to the two ends a polyline is said to have vertices (singular vertex)
where intermediate line segments join .
Polylines have some unique qualities that make them very useful:
1. They can have width (constant or varying)
2. They can consist of a rcs and lines.
3. They can be edited
4. They can be joined together.
5. They can be exploded into individual segments.
