Q.1 Explain the Web and Windows based applications of Graphics in
detail.

Ans. Computer graphics are graphics created using computers and, more generally, the
representation and manipulation of image data by a computer. The development of computer
graphics has made computers easier to interact with, and better for understanding and
interpreting many types of data. Developments in computer graphics have had a profound
impact on many types of media and have revolutionized animation, movies and the video
game industry.

The web based applications of graphics are the websites which have different types of images
and diagrams which are created by help of computers. The web pages are made with the help
of different graphics applications and in different formats. The windows based graphics
applications are the different types of icons, images, charts and diagrams which we can see in
our screen and the different programs which deals with the creating and modifying of images
and graphics.

Q.2 What is the difference between Save and Save As options in

Photoshop?

Ans. When you are saving a file for the first time and press save you will see options on
choosing a file name, file location, and file type. When you save a file that already has a
previous version saved, with the exact filename, pressing save will overwrite that file. You
will not see the same options as you did when you first pressed save on a new file. In fact you
will most likely see absolutely nothing. It will just silently overwrite the original file.

Most programs presume that if you open a file from your computer, edit it and then press
save, you simply want to update the original file.

While, Pressing save as will again give you the options to change the file location, file type,
and most importantly, the file name. This will allow you to save your file under a new name
and avoid overwriting the original file.

Q.3 What are the different types of Palettes present in Photoshop?

Ans. The different types of palettes present in adobe Photoshop are Navigator palette,
Action palette, Style palette, Colour palette, History palette, Histogram palette, Swatches
palette, Info palette etc.

Q.4 What is use of Navigator Palette?

Ans. The navigator palette is used to navigate through the image quickly change the view
of your artwork using a thumbnail display.

Q.5 What are the steps we follow to open Navigator Palette?

Ans. The steps to open navigator palette are:

Step 1: From the menu bar of the Photoshop application choose “Windows”

Step 2: Choose the option “Navigator” from the drop down menu.

Q.6 What is the use of the Reverting File?

Ans. The use of reverting file in adobe Photoshop is that it is used to get back the original
version of the file the “revert” action will remove all modifications on the images until they
are saved.

Q.7 Discuss the various file formats of Photoshop? Illustrate where a

particular file format is used?

Ans. The different types of file formats used in Photoshop are:

BMP

A standard Windows image format. You can specify either Windows or OS/2 format or a bit
depth for the image. For 4-bit and 8-bit images using Windows format, you can also specify
RLE compression.

CompuServe GIF (Graphics Interchange Format)

Commonly used to display graphics and small animations in web pages. GIF is a compressed
format designed to minimize file size and transfer time. GIF supports only 8-bit colour
images (256 or fewer colours). You can also save an image as a GIF file using the Save for
Web command.

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)

Used to save photographs, JPEG format retains all colour information in an image but
compresses file size by selectively discarding data. You can choose the level of compression.
Higher compression results in lower image quality and a smaller file size; lower compression
results in better image quality and a larger file size. JPEG is a standard format for displaying
images over the web.

JPEG 2000

Produces images with better compression, quality, colour management, and metadata
capability than JPEG. JPEG 2000 also supports transparency in layered images and retains
any saved selections. Photoshop Elements saves images in extended JPEG 2000 (JPF) format,
which is a more comprehensive file format than standard JPEG 2000 (JP2). You can make
files JP2 compatible by selecting an option in the JPEG 2000 dialog box.

PCX

A bitmap format widely supported on a variety of platforms.

Photoshop (PSD)

The standard Photoshop Elements format for images. You should generally use this format
for edited images to save your work and preserve all your image data and layers in a single
page file.

Photo Creations Format (PSE)

The standard Photoshop Elements format for multiple page creations. You should generally
use this format for photo creations to save your work and preserve all your image data and
layers in a multiple page file.

Photoshop PDF (Portable Document Format)

A cross-platform and cross-application file format. PDF files accurately display and preserve
fonts, page layouts, and both vector and bitmap graphics.
Q.8 Name and Explain the various fields in which Computer Graphics
are useful?

Ans. The various fields in which the computer graphics are useful are :

• CAD ( Computer aided design)

CAD is the use of computer technology for the process of design and design-documentation.
Computer Aided Drafting describes the process of drafting with a computer. CAD may be
used to design curves and figures in two-dimensional (2D) space; or curves, surfaces, and
solids in three-dimensional (3D) objects.

CAD is an important industrial art extensively used in many applications, including

automotive, shipbuilding, and aerospace industries, industrial and architectural design,
prosthetics, and many more. CAD is also widely used to produce computer animation for
special effects in movies, advertising and technical manuals.

• Digital Arts

Digital art is a general term for a range of artistic works and practices that use digital
technology as an essential part of the creative and/or presentation process. Since the 1970s,
various names have been used to describe the process including computer art and multimedia
art, and digital art is itself placed under the larger umbrella term new media art.

• Education

Computers are used in different countries both to complement established education practices
and develop new ways of learning such as online education (a type of distance education).
This gives students the opportunity to choose what they are interested in learning. The
proliferation of computers also means the increase of programming and blogging.
Technology offers powerful learning tools that demand new skills and understandings of
students, including Multimedia, and provides new ways to engage students, such as Virtual
learning environments. Technology is being used more not only in administrative duties in
education but also in the instruction of students. The use of technologies such as PowerPoint
and interactive whiteboard is capturing the attention of students in the classroom.
Technology is also being used in the assessment of students. One example is the Audience
Response System (ARS), which allows immediate feedback tests and classroom discussions.

• Video Games

Now days the biggest user of computer graphics is the video games industry, and it has
developed the demand of more and much better graphics. They use the high level of graphics
which are in high demands now days.

• Web design
Web designing is also a field where the computer graphics have a vital role, with the starting
of building a website the use of computer graphics is started. In website designing the
applications of graphics are required at a high scale; the websites which have different types
of images and diagrams which are created by help of computers gives us a good area for the
application of graphics.

The web pages are made with the help of different graphics applications and in different
formats.
