Consume
For Consumption, I have chosen the YouTube App with the students watching Crash Course #28: Electric Current video. The
application is available through Apple Store and Google Play. Students can also access through their web browser. The application
provides a wealth of information that students can use to reinforce or remediate the content. The video covers a large portion of the
Electricty unit. I would provide the students will a guide through the video which would prompt them to answer questions regarding
the information covered in the video. I would enable Guided Access in the iPad to prevent students from wandering away from the
application or video as YouTube has a diverse catalog of videos that are not intended for educational purposes. This application
promotes student led learning and provides students an opportunity to use an application they frequently use for educational reasons.
YouTube has become an integral component of our students’ everyday lives and the integration of the application into the classroom
gives the students experiences in using it for remediation and reinforcement of content. The video would be utilized as an introduction
to the unit.
Curate
For Curate, I have chosen EveryCircuit App where the students can build circuits and measure how the resistance, voltage, and current
changes when certain variables are manipulated. The application is available through Apple Store and Google Play. They can also
access the application through their cell phones for free. Students are able to share their circuits with their peers through the
application and save for future use. The application provides a tutorial on the various components involved in circuits and how those
components are displayed in the application. The students will construct circuits that will be used later in the unit. Students will be
given a guide through the application in how to complete the various circuits. The potential learning experiences in this app is infinite.
It can also assist with differentiating instruction to students of varying readiness. Each student can be given a different pathway
through the app depending on their readiness level.
Connect
For Connection, I have chosen the Understanding & Seeing Renewal Electricity app, available in the App Store and Google Play.
With this application, students can either use with VR headsets or not. Student’s will walk through a house and watch as electricity
flows through the home. The students will be able to view how photovoltaic panel powers a swimming pool and other appliances
throughout the home consume electricity. The students will also develop energy efficient strategies to decrease energy consumption in
the home. The application allows students to connect what they have learned previously to how energy flows throughout homes and
how they use strategies to decrease energy consumption. The application supports content covered previous in the unit as provides the
students a goal oriented task to complete.
Creation
For creation, I have chosen the eMaze application where students will have to generate a presentation regarding what they have
learned in the unit regarding electricity. I will provide students with the curriculum standards for the unit which guide them through
the presentation. In addition, they will include in the presentation concepts they are unclear about so I will be able to guide them
through remediation. eMaze application is available through web browsers. Students will have to search the internet for images and
videos to demonstrate their understanding of the content and include their circuits from EveryCircuit App. They will also be required
to integrate their own audio into the presentation explaining what each portion demonstrates. The application allows students to
engage their learning preferences in how they construct their presentation. It can also provide them with a study guide for the unit
since the presentation will cover the entire unit.
