Attractor Fields

Let's start from the idea that the whole universe, including everything in it, is a sea of
energy, which we can term a field of consciousness, traditionally associated with
divinity or God. Within that all encompassing sea of energy, there are numerous energy
fields, each with distinct properties.

Dr. David Hawkins, author of Power Vs. Force, uses the term Attractor Fields to
describe the field of energy specific to a level of consciousness. Each level on his Map
of Consciousness is associated with a distinct attractor field and that field predominates
in the experience of the person at that level of consciousness.

I see an attractor field as a matrix of energy surrounding the physical body. It includes
the aura, but is not limited to it. The field contains thoughts that have been realized
within the body and sent back out into the surrounding energy field to attract
circumstances back to us that reflect those thoughts, giving the illusion that there is an
objective reality "out there". The Heisenberg principle, which states that it is impossible
to have objective observation independent of the person doing the observing,
scientifically supports this.

People with low levels of consciousness, for example at the level of Shame (calibrating
at 20 on Hawkins' scale) have dense attractor fields that are close in around the body.
It's difficult for anything of higher frequency to get through this field so the person has
difficulty seeing beyond the shame that dominates their consciousness. In contrast,
people at the level of Love (calibrates at 500 on Hawkins' scale) have more expanded,
less dense attractor fields, so their potential experience is much less limited.

The human brain is a receiver of thought energy and converts the thought energy into
electromagnetic energy. Certain thoughts tend to predominate in an attractor field.
Individuals will think those thoughts over and over again, thinking they belong to them,
whereas actually they are a function of the attractor field. When those thoughts are
processed, they are experienced in the body and sent back out into the attractor field,
where they continue to attract the same circumstances to that individual.

According to Hawkins, individuals are born with a certain level of consciousness, hence
the attractor field is already in place at birth. This level can be changed, but in practice,
most people do not vary much from their birth level, and some may even drop in
consciousness.

The human Will is what allows us to progress beyond the attractor field we are in. Any
time we allow more unlimited thoughts to register in our brains (without allowing the
ego to block them) the brain develops new neural pathways for changing those higher
frequency thoughts into electromagnetic energy to register in the body.

To activate the Will, one can simply use intent, but in practice it is difficult to change
levels of consciousness on one's own. Traditionally, the student seeks out a teacher at a
higher level of consciousness, and the attractor field of the teacher adds the necessary
energy for the student to expand his or her attractor field. By the same token, the benefit
of attending self-help groups or classes that calibrate at higher levels is the energy of the
attractor field and its power to uplift us.
Attractor Field Techniques

Attractor Field Techniques (AFT) is an energetic and spiritual approach that can be used
to work with:

 Physical Illness
 Pain Disorders
 Emotional Problems
 Spiritual Debelopment and Self-Actualization

What are Attractor Field Meridian Approaches?

What we understand to be “reality” is only one aspect of the universe that is far greater
and more awesome than our science can currently explain. Several hundred years ago
science said the sun and stars revolved around the earth. The data seemed to prove this.
It required a new perspective to discover a more accurate understanding of the universe.
Within the last 60 years we have gone from thinking that matter and energy were
different. We now understand that they are the same thing in two different forms. The
understanding that the scientific world is beginning to realize is that the universe can be
understood at many different levels. Each level has its own rules and truths.

Levels of Consciousness and the work of David Hawkins

AFT has been heavily influenced by the work of David Hawkins, MD, PhD. In his book
Power Vs Force Dr. . Hawkins describes how consciousness is organized into different
levels. The problematic “levels of consciousness” are Shame, Guilt, Apathy, Grief,
Fear, Desire, Anger and Pride. In the AFT model all emotional and physical
disturbances arise out of thought and emotional patterns from these levels.

Dr. . Hawkins’ work also describes “higher” levels of consciousness above the pride
level. These levels include courage, willingness, neutrality, reason, love, joy peace and
enlightenment. For those interested in consciousness and spiritual development, Dr.
Hawkins books: Power Vs Force, The Eye of the I, and I: Reality and Subjectivity are
highly recommended.

The bottom line is that there is a change point at the level of courage. Below the level of
courage are states of consciousness that lead to suffering. At the level of courage, we
have the courage to look at ourselves and recognize that we are at the source of our own
suffering and we also have the potential to be at the source of creating our own joy and
peace.

AFT is dedicated to a) helping people eliminate their own suffering and b) helping
people reach higher states of consciousness where people have access to experiences of
increasing resourcefulness, happiness, peacefulness and eventually enlightenment

Understanding and Energetic Approach to Human Problems.

Our physical bodies are only an aspect of what we truly are. In reality we are beings of
light and energy. The concept of “the Force” described in the Stars Wars movies is
surprisingly accurate. Our minds and bodies are shaped by our consciousness and our
thoughts and intentions. Our bodies are the conduits of life energy that flows through
the universe. When we run low on life energy we become “dis-eased” and eventually
diseased. Just as matter and energy are interchangeable, thought and energy are
interchangeable. Just like energy can be thought of as having a specific frequency (like
tuning into a radio station at a certain frequency), thoughts have different frequencies as
well. Not unlike radio waves or microwaves or light waves, they are broadcast beyond
our specific brains.

Light waves are electromagnetic radiation that comes to us from the sun. Their
frequencies are such that they have a positive impact on our bodies. Gamma radiation is
also a type of electromagnetic energy at a different frequency that has a very destructive
effect on our bodies. Thoughts and intentions also generate energetic fields that
have either positive or negative effects upon our lives. The thoughts and intentions
that have negative energetic effects on our spirit and our body include shame, guilt,
anger, fear and false pride. These include activities such as criticizing, blaming, judging,
withdrawing, hiding, punishing, attacking and so on. The thoughts and intentions that
have positive energetic effects on our souls and bodies include acceptance, openness,
love, joy, peacefulness curiosity, compassion, and reverence. They include activities
such as acceptance, forgiveness, kindness, love, understanding connection, and
empathy.

There are certain people whom everyone likes to be around. We often say, “I like their
energy”. We are absolutely correct about this. These people do broadcast good energy.
There are other people we do not want to be around for just the opposite reason. We are
all aware of this. But it goes much deeper than this.

When we walk around criticizing, judging and blaming others or ourselves we

weaken our life energy. When we go though our life being angry and negative towards
others or ourselves we generate negative energy that makes us feel bad and makes us
suffer immediately. The effect also continues to effect us over time. Eventually the
energy fields of these negative thought patterns create negative energy fields that disrupt
the body’s physical functioning and create disease. It also does not matter if we are
conscious of these thoughts. In fact most of the time we are unconscious of these
thoughts.

For the most part we have not said anything new here. These ideas have been stated by
sages and saints throughout time. They have been stated by Jesus and by Buddha. They
are in the Talmud and the Kabbalah. They are in Hindu texts, a course in miracles and
countless other texts.

The problem has always been how to take this wisdom and use it in your daily life.
What is different here is that Attractor Field techniques provide with you a tool to help
you go beyond intellectual understanding. Theoretically AFT provides an approach that
will helps users get the immediate relief for specific physical and emotional problems.
The understanding of AFTis that it gives particpants a means, if they choose, to walk
along a spiritual path toward becoming a more enlighten human being, without going
into a monastery. AFT users feel they are more able to consistently stay connected to
the energy of acceptance, love and forgiveness. They report this brings them peace of
mind, better health and helps them be more successful in their lives in ways that they
did not imagine.
THE MAP OF CONSCIOUSNESS –
HAWKINS’ SCALE

Introduction

On our journey throughout life we find ourselves met by all kinds of people and all
kinds of situations and experiences. Our ability to learn and grow from these
experiences is based largely on our ability to discern truth from falsehood. It has been
demonstrated over the eons that the human mind is incapable of discerning truth as the
stunning evidence of pain and suffering mounts, not only at the individual level but also
at the level of entire civilizations. Dr. David R. Hawkins, MD, PhD has created a tool
that he calls the Map of Consciousness. This map was developed to overcome the
inherent limitation of the human mind, whereby falsity has been misidentified as
truth. His ultimate goal “is a connecting of the dots so that the hidden picture
emerges. The hope is that this work might undo the very sources of pain, suffering, and
failure, and assist the evolution of human consciousness in each of us to rise to the level
of joy that should be the essence of each and every human being’s experience”. (1)

Background

The Map of Consciousness was created by Dr. David Hawkins, a psychiatrist, who
experienced several life-altering events throughout his life. Following each event, he
noticed a change in his state of consciousness from an ego-based/ mind focus to a
completely overwhelming state of overpowering bliss where he felt a constant, steady
connection with the “Presence”.

With this dramatic change in his level of consciousness, he decided that he must pursue
the reason why it had changed and how he could describe the changes to help mankind
in the pursuit of enlightenment. His driving desire was to “address the causes of the
endless stream of spiritual distress and human suffering”.(2)

History

The Map of Consciousness is a numerical scale whereby one can measure positive from
negative, power from force and truth from falsehood. Dr. Hawkins believes that every
word, every thought, and every intention creates what is called a morphogenetic field, or
attractor field, and that these energy fields can be measured by a very simple process.
This process is a well-established science known as Kinesiology. Kinesiology is
defined as the study of muscles and their movements, especially as applied to physical
conditioning. The study of kinesiology first gained scientific attention from the work of
Dr. George Goodheart, who pioneered the specialty he called Applied Kinesiology, after
finding that benign physical stimuli such as beneficial vitamin and mineral supplements
would increase the strength of certain indicator muscles, whereas hostile stimuli would
cause those muscles to suddenly weaken.
In the late 1970s, Dr. John Diamond refined this specialty into Behavioral Kinesiology
where indicator muscles would strengthen or weaken in the presence of positive or
negative physical, emotional and intellectual stimuli.

Dr. Hawkins’ research took Dr. Diamond’s technique several steps further, by
discovering that this kinesiologic response conveys man’s capacity to differentiate not
only positive from negative stimuli, but also anabolic from catabolic, and very
dramatically, truth from falsity. The Map of Consciousness reflects millions of
calibrations of statements, thoughts, photos, art, music, influential world leaders in
every discipline and in almost every area of human endeavour. The research carried on
for over 20 years to come up effectively with an anatomy of consciousness that reflects
the entire human condition.

Application

The Kinesiological Test cannot be used to foretell the future; otherwise there are no
limits as to what can be asked. Consciousness has no limits in space or time. The
answers do not depend upon the belief systems of either the tester or the test
subject. Consciousness knows only truth because only truth exists in reality. It does not
respond to falsehood because falsehood has no existence in reality. It will not respond
to non-integrity questions nor those that are ego-based. A good example of this type of
questioning would include asking which Stock to buy, and so on.

The critical point between positive and negative, between true and false, or between
constructive and destructive is at the calibrated level of 200.

This scale is a logarithmic progression. Therefore, the level of 300 is not twice the
amplitude of 150; it is 10 to the 300th power. An increase of even a few points is
indicative of a major advance in power.

Levels Below 200

The lower levels of consciousness include Shame, Guilt/Hate, Apathy, Grief, Fear,
Desire, Anger and Pride. These levels are the most painful that we experience and it is
the pain that these levels create that drive us in our desire for understanding and inner
growth. Perhaps it is not our full intention to grow, spiritually, but this becomes the
result after much inner reflection and discussion. These levels are dominated by
falsehood.
Dr. Hawkins describes these lower levels of consciousness as ego dominated life where
one thrives on the techniques and emotions of animal survival. These are aligned with
pleasure, predation and gain. Below the 200 level, an individual is left-brain dominant
(in right-handed people), which means that input goes directly to the amygdala
(almond), so emotional response is triggered before intelligence and cognition. From
this orientation, others are seen as objects or means to personal survival.

Calibration levels 200 – 500 Linear Mind

In human consciousness, there is a huge transition at the level of 200 where right brain
dominance (in right-handed people) reflects the increasing influence of spiritual energy
and a reliance now on Power rather than Force. At this point, input is fast-tracked
directly to the pre-frontal cortex and the emotional centre. This influence brings
progressive awareness and openness to the energy of love. These levels include
Courage, Neutrality, Willingness, Acceptance, and Reason. These levels also
increasingly align with truth.

The level 500-599 is a defining level of love where it is not just a feeling but a principle
to live one’s life by. Only 4 percent of the worlds population reaches the level of ‘500’
and only 0.4 percent reach level ‘540’.

Dr. Hawkins has created charts which engage the reader in considering alternate
possibilities to awareness. By simply reading these charts one is shown a point of view
from the “other side”. The effect is in increasing awareness of one’s own positions and
how some character “defects” will actually
subside as soon as they are recognized and owned.

Congratulations! Your level of consciousness has risen as you have read this article. As
new ideas push the morphogenetic field outward, new attractor fields are built, breaking
through old thought forms and beliefs driven by force and new belief systems are
created. As more of us think about this topic and these considerations, larger and larger
fields are created. As we share this information with others, we are in turn creating ever
larger M-fields, breaking the bonds of Force and Falsehood and engaging Power and
Truth. You have surely assisted in the learning process by increasing your level of
consciousness and therefore the advancement of Humanity.

This moment in our evolution is one that requires discernment as we effectively identify
issues that represent Truth and those that are heavy with deception. We are awakening
to the truth that the failures of our institutions are a result of the implementation
of FORCE and as we have learned from this research, anything that is based on force,
is disconnected from Source. Humanity has grown accustomed to the illusion of
isolation and separation. Dr. Hawkins has proven through the power in kinesiology, that
there is a connection between the two universes, the physical and the mind and spirit.
He states “ in a world full of sleepers lost from their source, here was a tool to recover
that lost connection with the higher reality and demonstrate it for all to see”. (3) We are
all connected to the Source.

In Conclusion:

Remember, The Map of Consciousness test takes a lot of practice to create a reliable
result. Ultimately, a number value itself is not as important as being able to discern
Power over Force (sometimes easier to see than Truth over Falsehood). In time, you
will recognize how these ideas “feel” to you. You will find yourself using a
combination of how you might “feel” about something, and combine it with what you
intuit about a situation. As you begin to trust in your own inner knowing, you will be
able eventually to discern truth from falsehood very quickly and easily. You will finally
master the Art of Discernment. For this is the year of TRUTH.

Enslavement by illusion is comfortable;

it is the liberation by Truth that people fear.

Straight and narrow is the path…

Waste no time.

Power vs. Force:The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior

by David R. Hawkins, M.D.

First published 1995, reprinted 1998. 311 pages.

Book review by Mari Smith. All comments in blue by Mari.

The highlight of this book is Hawkins' discovery – or creation – of a scale

of human consciousness. That is, he has calculated the various levels of
human awareness ranging from "Shame" to "Enlightenment". The scale
goes from 1-1000 which represents the degree of power of all possible
human awareness.

These numbers were calibrated through millions of kinesiological tests on

thousands of people over 20 years of research. Kinesiology is often
referred to as "muscle testing" where you press down on someone's
extended arm to test the resistance level of the muscle; strong means "yes",
weak means "no". A more detailed description of how to do muscle testing
is included later in this review.

What seems to be at work is a form of communal consciousness, or as

Hawkins calls it following Jung, a "database of consciousness." This
phenomenon is common in other social animals whereby a fish swimming
at one end of the school will instantly turn when its fellows a quarter-mile
away flee a predator.
It seems this same "knowing" is also available to humans. At a level far
below human awareness (consciousness), our bodies KNOW what is good
and bad for it. The human brain, at some primal level, is a wondrous
computer linked with a universal energy field that knows far more than it
knows it knows!

The unlimited information contained in the "database of

consciousness" has now been shown to be readily available to anyone
in a few seconds, at any time and in any place.

(Children get this right away and follow with delight. There's nothing here
that is surprising to them; they have always known they were connected to
the database; we adults have merely forgotten it).

Recall all the times you thought of someone and shortly thereafter they call
you or you run into them. We call this synchronicity. And what of the
times we have a gut feeling to go the other way and take a different course
of action than we originally intended – just like the fish turning away
automatically, it was our intuition that guided us. This is evidence of our
connection to the universal energy field, the collective intelligence. We
are always at all times connected to this universal energy field; this
database of consciousness has the infinite ability to guide us towards good
(power) and away from bad (force).

The average level of human consciousness today is approximately

204. A collective level of consciousness of mankind remained at 190 for
many centuries and, curiously, only jumped to its current level of 204 in the
late 1980s).

Eighty-five percent of the human race is below the critical level of

200. The extreme negativity of a few perverse individuals can sway entire
cultures and produce a global drag on the general level of consciousness, as
history illustrates to well.

The awareness level which is calibrated for an individual at birth only

INCREASES BY ABOUT FIVE POINTS, on average.

That an individual's level of consciousness is already in effect at birth is a

sobering idea with profound implications.

NOTE: It is very important to remember that the calibration figures do not

represent an arithmetic progress, but a logarithmic progression. Thus, the
level 300 is not twice the amplitude of 150; it is 300 to the 10 th power
(10300).

An increase of even a few points represents a MAJOR ADVANCE IN

POWER;the rate of increase in power as we move up the scale is
enormous. The difference in power level, for instance, between 361.0 and
361.1 is very significant and capable of transforming both one's life and
one's effect on the world at large.

All levels below 200 are destructive of life in both the individual and
society at large. The primary impetus at these levels is survival.

At the level of Pride (175) the survival motive may expand to

comprehend the survival of others as well. Pride has enough energy to
run the United States Marine Corps. People feel positive as they reach this
level, in contrast to the lower energy fields. This rise in self-esteem is a
balm to all the pain experienced at lower levels of consciousness.

All levels above 200 are constructive expressions of power. The decisive
level of 200 is the fulcrum that divides the general areas of FORCE
and POWER. At the level of Courage (200) an attainment of true power
occurs; therefore it is also the level of EMPOWERMENT. This is the
zone of exploration, accomplishment, strength and determination. As we
cross the line between negative and positive influence into Courage, the
well-being of others becomes increasingly important.

People at the level of neutrality (250) have a confident capability to live

in the world. People at this level are easy to get along with, safe to be
around and associate with, because they're not interested in conflict,
competition or guilt. Their attitude is nonjudgmental and does not lead to
any need to control other people's behaviors.

By the 500 level the happiness of others emerges as the essential

motivating force. This level is characterized by the development of a love
which is unconditional, unchanging and permanent. Love has the capacity
to lift others and accomplish great feats because of its purity of motive.
The person who has arrived at a habitual state of unconditional Love will
experience anything less as unacceptable. As one advances in the
evolution of his individual consciousness, the process becomes self-
correcting, so that self-improvement becomes a way of life.

500 is the level of true happiness, but although the world is fascinated with
the subject of love, it is interesting to know that only 0.4% of the world's
population ever reaches this evolutionary level of consciousness.

The high 500s are characterized by interest in spiritual awareness for

both oneself and others.

By the 600s the good of mankind and search for enlightenment are the
primary goals. Only one in 10 million reaches a level of consciousness
calibrating at 600 or over.

From 700 to 1000 life is dedicated to the salvation of all humanity. True
enlightenment at these levels has really only been achieved by a few
spiritual masters throughout the ages; these are the Great Avatars to whom
the title "Lord" is appropriate: Lord Krishna, Lord Buddha and Lord Jesus
Christ.

A thorough absorption of the material presented in this book has been

shown to raise one's level of consciousness by an average of 35
POINTS. This is profound given most people will only increase their level
by five points in a lifetime! Because we are all interconnected, any
individual increase also raises to some degree the consciousness of
everyone on the planet.

To become more conscious is the greatest gift anyone can give to the
world.
The power of the relatively few individuals near the top of the
consciousness level counterbalances the weaknesses of the masses
toward the bottom to achieve the overall average of 204.

Although only 15% of the world's population is above the critical

consciousness level of 200, the collective power of that 15% has the weight
to counterbalance the negativity of the remaining 85%. Kinesiological
testing has shown that:

One individual at level 700*… counterbalances… 70

million individuals below level 200.

One individual at level 600… counterbalances… 10

million individuals below level 200.

One individual at level

500… counterbalances… 750,000 individuals below
level 200.

One individual at level

400… counterbalances… 400,000 individuals below
level 200.

One individual at level

300… counterbalances… 90,000 individuals below
level 200.

Twelve individuals at level 700*… equals… one

Avatar at 1,000.

*There are currently 12 persons on the planet who calibrate at 700.

We can see from the analysis above that even a few loving thoughts
during the course of the day more than counterbalance all of our negative
thoughts.

The only way to enhance our power in the world is by increasing our
integrity, understanding and capacity for compassion.

Nothing out there has power over you. It is not life's events, but how we
react to them, the attitude that we have about them, which determine
whether they have a positive or negative effect on our lives, whether they
are experienced as opportunity or stress.

Nothing has the power to "create" stress. The loud music that raises the
blood pressure of one person can be a source of delight to another. A
divorce may be traumatic if it is unwanted or a release into freedom if it is
desired.

Our decision-making process is a function of consciousness itself; with

enormous rapidity, the mind makes choices based on millions of pieces of
data and their correlations far beyond conscious comprehension. The new
science of nonlinear dynamics calls the energy patterns attractors.

All of the Great Teachers throughout the history of our species have merely
taught one thing, over and over, in whatever language, at whatever
time. All have said, simply: Give up weak attractors for strong
attractors.

Alignment with high energy attractor patterns results in health; with weak
ones, in disease.
So how do we overcome negative attitudes? Clinical observation
indicates that the patient must reach a decision point. A sincere desire for
change allows one to seek higher attractor energy patterns.

We do not get over pessimism by associating with cynics; the popular

idea that you are defined by the company you keep has some clinical
basis!

All that is really necessary is to expose oneself to a high energy field

and one's inner attitudes will spontaneously begin to change.

This is a phenomenon well known among self-help groups – as reflected in

the saying, "Just bring the body to the meeting." (Or as Woody Allen says,
"80% of success in life is just showing up!") If you merely expose yourself
to the influence of higher patterns, they begin to "rub off;" as it is said,
"You get it by osmosis."

This is why it is so important to look around at the company you keep. As

someone once said, "If you want to fly with eagles, don't scratch with
turkeys!" Take a millionaire out for lunch. Form a mastermind group of
powerful, successful people. Step outside your comfort zone and start
hanging out with people brighter, more experienced and more successful
than you are.

If you wanted to improve your tennis game, you wouldn't play with a
beginner. The best way to improve, in any area of life for that matter, is to
learn from (or at least emulate) those who have mastery in that area.

WHAT IS POWER, WHAT IS FORCE?

Facts are accumulated by effort (force),

but truth reveals itself effortlessly (power).

Power is unassuming; force is arrogant. Power attracts; whereas force

repels. Power serves others; force is self-serving. Power always results in
a win-win solution; force produces win-lose situations.

Mahatma Gandhi expressed universal principles which calibrate at 700; he

forbade the use of violence and united the will of the people, which brought
the British Empire to its knees. Colonialism calibrated at 175. This is a
classic example of Power accomplishing with ease that which force is
unable to accomplish even with extreme effort.

The Constitution of the United States calibrates at 700. The source of its
power is the concept that all men are equal by virtue of the divinity of their
creation, the same principle that Gandhi expressed.

Hawkins goes into great detail of the implications of Power (strong

attractors) vs. Force (weak attractors) in Politics, Social, the Human Spirit,
the Marketplace, Sports, the Arts, Health and Wellness, Genius, Success
and Creativity.

Hawkins also includes an illuminating chart of contrasting pairs of

words: power/strong words vs. force/weak words.

Mere reflection on the many contrasting pairs of qualities can start to

raise your consciousness, so that you gradually become more aware of the
words you use in relationships, business affairs and all the various
interactions that make up the fabric of life.

Socrates taught that man's purpose is to dedicate his life to the

enlightenment of his soul (the light) rather than the pursuit of
materialism and the senses (which leads to darkness).
HOW TO PERFORM MUSCLE TESTING (KINESIOLOGY)

It takes two people to perform a kinesiological test. Use a friend or a

family member for testing. We'll call him or her your subject.

1. Have the subject stand up straight with his right arm relaxed at his
side and his left arm held out from the shoulder, elbow straight. (He
may use the other arm if he prefers.)

2. Stand facing your subject and place your right hand (or just two
fingers) on the subject's extended arm just above the wrist.

3. Tell the subject you are going to try to push his arm down as he
resists with all his strength. Now push down on his arm fairly
quickly, firmly and evenly. The idea is to push just hard enough to
test the spring and bounce in the arm, not so hard that the muscle
becomes fatigued. It is not a question of who is stronger, but of
whether the deltoid muscle can "lock" the shoulder joint against the
push.

4. Tips to maintain the accuracy of muscle testing include:

a. Remove eyeglasses, especially if they have metal frames;
b. Remove hats (synthetic materials on top of the head make
everyone go weak);
c. The testing arm should be free of jewelry, especially quartz
wristwatches;
d. Be impersonal during the procedure to avoid transmitting
positive or negative feelings;
e. To improve concentration, have the test subject close his or
her eyes;
f. Keep the environment free of noise, background music, or
distractions;
g. If subjects repeatedly go weak, be aware that unusual stimuli
such as a tester's perfume, aftershave lotion or voice may
affect the test results.

5. A statement may be made by either party. If the statement is

negative or false, or reflects a calibration below 200, the test
subject will "go weak." If the answer is yes or calibrates over
200, he will "go strong."
a. To demonstrate the procedure ask your subject to think of
someone they love in contrast to someone they fear or dislike
strongly.

6. Questions should always be posed as a declaration of fact. (It is

useless to ask questions about the future as the test results will have
no reliability).

7. The test can also be performed by holding test objects next to the
subject's solar plexus. (Note that the test objects can even be
concealed in a manila envelope and the test will still be accurate).

Using the numeric scale of consciousness, calibrations can be arrived at by

stating, "This item is over 100… over 200… over 300…" until a negative
response is obtained. The calibration can then be refined: "It is over 220?
225? 230?" etc. Tester and testee can trade places and the same results will
be obtained.

Once one is familiar with the technique it can be used to evaluate

companies, movies, individuals, events in history, or for the diagnosis
of current life problems. Because the test is rapid, actually taking less
than 10 seconds, it is possible to process an enormous amount of
information in a short time.

Imagine the implications of being able to discern with 100% accuracy true
from false. You need never take a course of action that you are unsure
about. Jobs, relationships, opportunities, decisions all can be tested first.

Test results are independent of the test subject's knowledge, opinions,

belief systems or attitudes. For example, the music of Bach makes
everyone go strong, even if they do not personally like it, just as heavy
metal music makes all subjects go weak, even if they personally prefer it.

The test response is independent of the subject's physical strength. It is

frequently dumbfounding to well-muscled athletes when they go just as
weak as anyone else in response to a noxious stimulus.

I have only scratched the surface of the book in this review; it is extremely
content rich and is a handbook you'll want to reference time and again.

If you are on a path of personal and spiritual growth, if you are a seeker of
truth, and if you want to help increase the consciousness level on this
planet – this book is a must read!

Which Energy Fields Do You Use
April 1, 2012 by progressus

There is little doubt that life requires energy and in life we each are free to canalize our
energy as we choose. As the saying goes it is not what happens in life so much as what
you do with what happens that makes all the difference.

Most have experienced the energy associated with a wide range of emotions/feelings
from guilt, anger and fear to compassion, joy, and love. And probably we know people,
or know of people, where it seems that their life is lived in just a few of emotional
states. Some seemingly are forever angry and fearful and some are unceasingly
compassionate and joyful. We’ve also experienced the influence of another’s energy
upon us: those embodying negative energy can depress or drain our energy while those
exhibiting positive energy can be vivifying.

Appropriate Use of Energy Fields

However, both negative and positive emotions can be beneficial when used
appropriately. Harvard Medical School psychiatrist George Vaillant, M.D. notes that
negative emotions are essential for individual survival—the fight or flight response—
and as such are all about ‘me’ in the moment. Whereas positive emotions extend
concern beyond the boundaries of one’s own skin and beyond the immediate moment
since they enable flexible, integrative and creative patterns of thought and behavior.

In Power vs Force David Hawkins explains and calibrates the levels of energy (i.e.
consciousness) ranging from negative attractors (i.e. energy fields) to positive attractors
that are significant determinants of behavior. The attractor levels ranging from negative
energy to increasingly more positive energy, in non-linear progression are: shame, guilt,
apathy, grief, fear, desire, anger, pride, courage, neutrality/non-attachment,
willingness/engagement, acceptance, reason, love, joy, peace, enlightenment. Courage,
the middle energy field in the progression, is the point where a person’s behavior begins
to be initiated from within and thus reflects the foundation for the expression of one’s
own power. Up to this point the energy fields (shame to pride) represent levels of
response to outside forces and beyond this point represent increasing levels of self-
awareness. Moreover, as one’s energy is canalized by or is given purpose through
increasing self-awareness greater human potential is actualized.

Commonly Employed Attractors

However for most people employed by an organization, and subordinated within its
system of management, the energy field leveraged in one’s work-life can be an obstacle
to realizing one’s potential. Even though most in management desire to have engaged
employees the systems and processes they put in practice can be obstacles to what is
desired. For example, those in management seeking to control the focus of people’s
attention and behavior can create a context wherein the satisfaction of one’s needs is
conditional, what is essentially management by negative attractors.

Commonly found in use within most organizations is the fear-desire-pride triad. This
triad underlies most of management’s fear-based methods (e.g. annual performance
appraisal, merit system, incentive system/pay-for-performance, management-by-
results/MBO, reward/punishment system and accountability system) for forcing
people’s actions/behaviors to align with the strategy and goals of the organization
and/or the desires of one’s manager.

The practitioners of these methods might argue that they are not using fear but rather
they are merely offering the possibility for reward, recognition and promotion in
exchange for behavior leading to desired results. It is simply a quid pro quo transaction,
a purely economic transaction—if you do this then you get that.

What is conveniently glossed over or denied is that offering a reward is synonymous to

a threat of punishment, of not getting what is offered as reward/incentive or worse
getting fired—if you don’t do this you won’t get that (or you will get what you don’t
want). So reward and punishment are inseparably different sides of the same coin! The
same energy field is in play whether one is forced to either seek reward or to avoid
punishment. Whether the carrot or the stick, force is in play.

By influencing behavior through the use of force one turns attention toward things of
extrinsic value and away from intrinsic human potential. Invariably inherent potential is
inhibited from emerging. Moreover, given the ephemeral nature of things of outer value,
causing people to act in pursuit of them promotes attachment to the material things in
one’s life (e.g. possessions, position, thoughts).

The desire for such things is unending. How much recognition or reward is
enough? How much reward will satiate the desire for more reward? What gain—
material or positional—will quell the desire and make one proud enough? The point is,
the cravings initiated by fear, desire and pride are insatiable—the ego can never have
enough.
So why is this a bad thing? After all it keeps everyone busily moving toward a goal that
can’t be meet once and for all—it keeps us working hard. Isn’t this the thinking
underlying our economic system, that the pursuit of self-interest and unlimited material
gain will keep people industrious? Doesn’t this provide just what management wants,
busy hardworking people?

Although employing the fear-desire-pride triad does in deed cause people to react, such
behavior does not represent genuinely engaged action. This triad facilitates a way of
being—of canalizing energy—leading to increasingly greater attachment to thoughts
and things. Moreover, not only does it keep people running on the wheel—so much
effort yet so little progress—it leads to intense selfish behavior (a.k.a. greed).

So the more one focuses on fear, the more intense the feeling of fear becomes and the
more it begins to control behavior and limit the choices a person is able to perceive. In
effect, by holding fear centrally in mind—as the attractor of one’s energy—people limit
their ability to perceive (and interpret) anything without the constraints that fear
imposes. Acting out of fear, people tend to think and frame things in either/or terms
making the full range of possibilities imperceptible. In fact, people can become blinded
by their fears. No wonder change is so often resisted! Moreover people with fear
haven’t the courage to think anew as fear obstructs self initiated meaningful behavior,
self-determination and self-efficacy (i.e. psychological empowerment).

George Vaillant asserts that human beings are hardwired for positive emotions and that
these emotions are essential for the survival of humankind, which is beyond individual
survival. The implication being that in life, we each need to progress toward more
positive fields of energy and to canalize our energy into greater levels of self-awareness
thus realizing the power of being human. In other words, the more positive the energy
fields the more genuinely engaged and universally caring people will become. But, the
more we employ negative attractors the more people will be caught up and stuck in a
vicious and selfish cycle leaving them unable to freely exercise their capabilities.

Positive Energy Triad

A more humanly productive triad to employ is courage-neutrality-willingness (a.k.a

self-initiation-non-attachment-engagement). As previously mentioned courage is the
beginning of self-initiated behavior, of intrinsically motivated action. Being courageous
implies exercising one’s will in order to face fear without allowing it to dictate what
happens next. This is the beginning of truly humanly productive behavior and the
pathway to increasing levels of awareness.
Therefore facilitating others through the positive energy fields requires eliminating the
use of extrinsic factors to cause others to act. It means enabling others to realize the
power they themselves have while recognizing that outside forces do not (and should
not) dictate their behavior. Again as the saying goes it is not what happens in life so
much as what you do with what happens—this is the difference that makes all the
difference!

Neutrality according to David Hawkins is the energy field where “release from the
positionality that typifies lower levels” occurs. At this level people are free from
attachment to material outcomes or identification with labels and the associated
either/or thinking that limits perspective and stifles creativity. In other words, fear,
desire and pride no longer compel people to defend or prove anything or to frame issues
in us-against-them terms, which minimizes cooperative behavior. Moreover the non-
attachment that underlies neutrality affords people the confidence and flexibility of
mind to entertain ideas—even those challenging to their own thoughts—and to do so in
collaborative relationship with others.

Willingness is the energy field wherein open-mindedness opens up even further through
reflective thinking and a widening concern for others. At this level, according to
Hawkins, people are “willing to face inner issues and don’t have major learning
blocks.” When people are willing and able to think reflectively they afford themselves
the opportunity to develop and bring to the world more of the potential that lies within
them—everyone benefits. Not inhibited by fear, desire and pride, such people welcome
productive feedback that makes them true learners—truly engaged—in
life. Furthermore the collaboration and learning that this energy field affords enables
the work performed to be high quality work.

Leaderships Facilitates Power

Once a leader ceases viewing people as means to their ends and begins understanding
people as ends in themselves, then he/she will be able to see the value in changing the
triad upon which his/her approach to leading rests. As argued in a previous post, to
truly lead one must cease appraising performance and begin facilitating
performance! Changing one’s operative triad is necessary for a judge of performance to
become a facilitator for enabling potential and improving performance.

Changing one’s operative triad requires a major change in the level of consciousness
through which life is ordered. Quoting Joseph Campbell, “when we quit thinking
primarily about ourselves and our own self-preservation, we undergo a truly heroic
transformation of consciousness.” Isn’t this the journey all leaders must take for
themselves to be humanly productive and to enable the potential and power of others to
spring forth?
Tips For Transcending Limitations Of The Ego
Advice For Spiritual Seekers

n his book Transcending the Levels of Consciousness, Dr. David R. Hawkins offers
advice to students who are seeking spiritual enlightenment. How can we transcend the
limitations of the ego, reduce suffering, grow stronger in spirit, and reach a higher level
of consciousness? Here he answers his students’ questions about spiritual growth:

Q: It has been said that only a single, very simple spiritual principle to live by helps us
make major progress on our path, something like: ‘to be kind to all of life’, or ‘to
forgive, no matter what’, or ‘to be of good will to all that exists’, or to take a sentence or
two from a favorite Psalm and reflect on it for days, weeks, or even months.

A: That is the most effective way to begin. A single tool applied consistently and
rigorously is more effective than reading all the books or having sporadic episodes of
enthusiasm. Persistence is characteristic of ‘one-pointedness of mind.’ By analogy, by
pulling on a single strand of yarn, a whole sweater unravels and becomes undone. Each
step forward summons forth the appropriate, already-acquired information that
amplifies and clarifies experiences. Thus, basic dictums become experiential and
confirmative. By the practice of kindness, one becomes kind, for kindness itself is
transformative.

Q: But how does a spiritual practice actually result in change? What are the
psychological mechanisms? How can one change from a ‘this’ to a ‘that’?

A: It is not a process of ‘change,’ but of evolutionary emergence. The larva does not
change into a butterfly but instead becomes the fulfillment of its potential as a product
of the evolution of Creation. To repeat, Creation is evolution by virtue of the emergence
of potentiality into actuality. Intention of the spiritual will is sufficient. The seemingly
‘new’ represents the unmanifest’s becoming Manifest, just as unclenching the fist
reveals the open hand.

Each positive choice moves one closer to a higher attractor field of consciousness. In
the secular world where ‘the rich get richer and the poor get poorer,’ it is equally true
that by integrity and effort, the formerly poor can become rich, and the formerly rich,
through error, can become bankrupt. Human life offers a great value as being the
optimum opportunity for spiritual evolution. By choice, the ‘iron filing’ of the spirit is
drawn to the various regions of the great omnipotent, omnipresent field of
consciousness itself. This is analogous to the effect of a giant electromagnetic field of
infinite power.

Q: What about major revelations or spiritual experiences that result in sudden

major changes?
A: It is by vibrational repetition that avalanches and other major natural phenomena
occur. Egoistic positions become weakened by virtue of seemingly minor and
insignificant steps. For example, even just saying “thank you” wherever possible can
result in becoming a more grateful and generous person who, by attraction, now
effortlessly sends forth benefits previously nonachievable by effort.

Major changes also occur as a consequence of release from negative karmic obligations.
It is as though the unconscious mind is finally satisfied that a lesson has been learned or
a debt has been settled by compensatory behaviors. In many ways, spiritual learning is
also similar to new skills

acquired by repetition and practice until they become natural, like one’s second nature,
and habitual. Learning is also facilitated by inspiration and identification with admired
figures who display the desired attributes. We tend to become like those whom we
admire.

Q: What qualities are of major help to a devotee other than familiarity with
advanced spiritual/consciousness information?

A: Adopt the attitudes associated with Higher Mind and select any of the virtues. Refuse
or reject negative attitudes or positions. Act in a gracious manner in all circumstances
towards oneself and others. Reject the violation of spiritual principles for short-term
gain. Create an idealized image of yourself and practice it as if for a movie role. Acting
‘as if’ brings to awareness the potentiality to actually become that which is admired. As
a learning device, it is often surprisingly effective to ‘pretend’ to be the quality that is
desired, and then, much to one’s surprise, discover that it has been a nonactivated aspect
of one’s own potentiality. Many people make self-improvement the number one priority
in their lives and identify with admired figures instead of envying them.

As a practical exercise, before leaving the house, review how one would like oneself to
be and decide to act that way. In so doing, note the response of others to one’s being
friendly, considerate, gracious, or loving. Decline seduction and temptation by that
which is tawdry and sensational. Surrender the dubious pleasure of ‘getting even’ or
‘getting the best of a deal’ in emotional interchanges. As a pleasant exercise,
consciously and purposely allow other people to ‘win’ and thus discover one’s own
inner greatness and generosity. To be emotionally stingy creates emotional poverty.
Every ‘win’ that one gives others paradoxically makes one richer, and by practice, one
ends up emotionally wealthy
How You Can Have Power Without Being Forceful
David Hawkins on The Nature of Power

If we analyze the nature of force, it becomes readily apparent why it must always
succumb to power; this is in accordance with one of the basic laws of physics. Because
force automatically creates counter-force, its effect is limited by definition. We could
say that force is a movement. It goes from here to there (or tries to) against opposition.
Power, on the other hand, stands still. It is like a standing field that does not move.
Gravity itself, for instance, does not move against anything. Its power moves all objects
within its field, but the gravity field itself does not move.

Power arises from meaning. It has to do with motive, and it has to do with principle.
Power is always associated with that which supports the significance of life itself. It
appeals to that in human nature which we call noble, in contrast to force, which appeals
to that which we call crass. Power appeals to that which uplifts, dignifies, and
ennobles. Force must always be justified, whereas power requires no justification.
Force is associated with the partial, power with the whole.

Force always moves against something, whereas power does not move against
anything.

Force is intrinsically incomplete and therefore has to constantly be fed energy. Power is
total and complete in and of itself and requires nothing from outside of itself. It makes
no demands; it has no needs. Because force has an insatiable appetite, it constantly
consumes. Power, in contrast, energizes, gives forth, supplies, and supports.
Power gives life and energy. Force takes these away.
We notice that power is associated with compassion and makes us feel positively about
ourselves. Force is associated with judgmentalism and tends to make us feel badly about
ourselves.

Force always creates counter-force; its effect is to polarize rather than to unify.
Polarization always implies conflict; its cost, therefore, is always high. Because force
incites polarization, it inevitably produces a win/lose dichotomy; and because somebody
always loses, enemies are always created. Constantly faced with enemies, force requires
constant defense. Defensiveness is invariably costly, whether in the marketplace,
politics, or international affairs.

In looking for the source of power, we have noted that it is associated with meaning and
that this meaning has to do with the significance of life itself. Force is concrete, literal,
and arguable. It requires proof and support. The sources of power, however, are beyond
argument and are not subject to proof. The self-evident is not arguable. That health is
more important than disease, that life is more important than death, that honor is
preferable to dishonor, that faith and trust are preferable to doubt and cynicism, that the
constructive is preferable to the destructive—are all self-evident statements not subject
to proof. Ultimately, the only thing we can say about a source of power is that it just
“is.”

Every civilization is characterized by native principles. If the principles of a civilization

are noble, it succeeds; if they are selfish, it fails. As a term, “principles” may sound
abstract, but the consequences of principle are quite concrete. If we examine principles,
we will see that they reside in an invisible realm within consciousness itself. Although
we can point out examples of honesty in the world, honesty itself as an organizing
principle central to civilization is nowhere independently existent in the external world.
True power, then, emanates from consciousness itself; what we see is a visible
manifestation of the invisible.

Pride, nobility of purpose, sacrifice for quality of life—all such things are considered
inspirational, giving life significance. But what actually inspires us in the physical
world are things that symbolize concepts with powerful meanings for us. Such symbols
realign our motives with abstract principles. A symbol can marshal great power because
of the principle that already resides within our consciousness.

Meaning is so important that when life loses meaning, suicide commonly ensues. When
life loses meaning, we first go into depression; when life becomes less meaningful, then
we finally leave it. Force has transient goals; when those goals are reached, there
remains the emptiness of meaninglessness. Power, on the other hand, motivates us
endlessly. If our lives are dedicated, for instance, to enhancing the welfare of others and
everyone we contact, our lives can never lose meaning. If the purpose of our life, on the
other hand, is merely financial success, what happens after that has been attained? This
is one of the primary etiologies or causes of depression in middle-aged men and women.

The disillusionment of emptiness comes from failing to align one’s life with the
principles from which power emanates. A good illustration of this phenomenon can be
seen in the lives of great musicians, composers, and conductors of our own times. How
frequently they continue productive careers into their eighties and nineties, often having
children and living vigorously until a ripe old age! Their lives have been dedicated to
the creation and embodiment of beauty; beauty incorporates and expresses enormous
power. We know clinically that alignment with beauty is associated with longevity and
vigor. Because beauty is a function of creativity, such longevity is common in all
creative occupations.

It is really only necessary to recognize that power is that which makes you go strong,
while force makes you go weak. Love, compassion, and forgiveness, which may be
mistakenly seen by some as submissive, are, in fact, profoundly empowering.
Revenge, judgmentalism, and condemnation, on the other hand, inevitably make you go
weak. Therefore, regardless of moral righteousness, it is a simple clinical fact that in the
long run, the weak cannot prevail against the strong. That which is weak falls of its own
accord.

Individuals of great power throughout human history have been those who have totally
aligned themselves with powerful attractors. Again and again, they have stated that the
power they manifested was not of themselves or of their own making. All attributed the
source of the power to something greater than themselves.

All of the Great Teachers throughout the history of our species have merely taught one
thing, over and over, in whatever language, at whatever time. All have said, simply:
Give up weak attractors for strong attractors.
5 Qualities of Geniuses Revealed
Are You A Genius?

Genius is one of the greatest untapped resources of our society. It’s no more specific
than it is personal—people of genius frequently have multiple talents in different
realms, and they might have answers to a diversity of problems. Yet society suffers a
great loss because it doesn’t know how to nurture its geniuses, and in fact is often either
indifferent or hostile to them. This is unfortunate, for they characteristically don’t cost
much to maintain. The lifestyle of those we term geniusis typically simple, and they’re
seldom interested in money or fame. Genius is characterized by an appreciation for
resources and the economy of integrity, because the genius values life and sees the
intrinsic worth of all of its expressions. Since time and resources are considered
precious, doing more than is necessary is viewed as a waste; therefore, people of genius
often lead very quiet lives and usually only come forth, very reluctantly, when there’s a
cause that must be supported.

1. Geniuses Have Minimum Wants - Because they are in touch with an endless
source of supply, geniuses experience only a minimum of want (such simplicity seems a
common characteristic of true success in general)—for there’s no need to “get” when
you already “have.” The basis of this nonmateriality, this seeming naïveté, is a radical
understanding of the nature of the universe itself: That which supports life is supported
by life; survival is thus effortless, and giving and receiving are one and the same.

2. Geniuses Are Eccentric - Genius is notoriously interpreted as unconventionality or

eccentricity. It’s true that such people, due to their alignment with high-energy attractors
[positive energy patterns], have a different perspective on life; therefore, things have a
different significance for them than they do for the average person. The genius is
frequently inspired to intense activity by insights beyond our understanding.

3. Geniuses Are Dedicated To Their Craft - Genius isn’t stardom—those who attain
prominence are a very small minority. There remains a legion of geniuses who achieve
no such status; many appear in no way noteworthy and may, in fact, have never had
formal higher education. What characterizes this type is the capacity to exhaustively
utilize what experience they have, and to capitalize on it by the dedication necessary to
reach a high degree of mastery. Many productive geniuses aren’t recognized until years
after they’ve died. In fact, the gift—or curse—of genius often brings about unfortunate
consequences during such an individual’s lifetime.

4. Geniuses Have Sudden Bursts of Inspiration - One characteristic of genius is the

capacity for great intensity, which is often expressed in a cyclic fashion. That is, the
personality of the genius sometimes seems to incorporate polar extremes: When
inspired, he may work 20 hours a day to realize a solution while it’s still fresh in his
mind; these periods of intense activity tend to be interspersed with intervals of apparent
stasis that are actually times of fermentation, which is a necessary part of the creative
process. Geniuses understand the need to make space for ideas to crystallize, for
creativity occurs under appropriate inner, not outer, circumstances. The stage is often
set by complete distraction—we all know stories of people who have gotten the answers
to complex problems while sitting in traffic on the freeway.

4. Geniuses Have A High Degree of Insight - A primary reason that so many people
fail to recognize, and therefore empower, their own genius is because in the popular
mind, genius is confused with a high IQ. This is a gross misunderstanding, which has
arisen from the fact that many celebrated geniuses in the fields of mathematics and
physics indeed have high IQs; however, in those fields, the IQ necessary to comprehend
the work is a prerequisite. It would be more helpful to see genius as simply an
extraordinarily high degree of insight in a given area of human activity. After all, there
are droves of noncerebral geniuses in many fields—such as art, music, design, and
invention—whose innovative, creative talents fall within certain limited parameters.

5. Geniuses Have Enormous Drive - Keep in mind that IQ is merely a measure of

academic capacity for logically comprehending symbols and words. From our studies, it
appears that the alignment of one’s goals and values with high-energy attractors is more
closely associated with genius than anything else. Genius can be more accurately
identified by perseverance, courage, concentration, enormous drive, and absolute
integrity—talent alone is certainly not enough. Dedication of an unusual degree is
required to achieve mastery, and in the simplest definition, one could say that genius is
the capacity for an extraordinary degree of mastery in one’s calling. A formula followed
by all geniuses, prominent or not, is: Do what you like to do best, and do it to the very
best of your ability.
"Every physiological and chemical transaction that goes on in the body is the result
of a blueprint of it within consciousness. All of them can be changed by changing
consciousness." Healing and Recovery David R.Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D.

Friends,
I am more and more fascinated by the way our body responds to our mind and
emotions.

I have been using this principle to successfully and quickly heal myself and my
friends.
Please read here, here (healing story #2), and here

Years ago, before I even read any books on this subject, I healed myself using my
mind: I popped the cyst overnight, repaired and regrew a few damaged nails,
etc.. Now, if I want any change, I close my eyes, envision the actual change and
smile, knowing that the change will follow.

I have read many interesting books on Mind/ consciousness, some of which I

listed here.
Additionally, I have written a post on this subject:

In fact, every therapeutic grade essential oil influences our mind. For example, both
therapeutic grade essential oils of Frankincense sold by Young Living uplift spirits
and on top of it, repair DNA! Please read more in the following post:

The Secret Of Success protocol taught by Gary Young is incredibly simple and
effective: it helps bring up the negative emotions stored in your body into the
conscious mind and shift your mind's energy into a positive state. ( I will type up the
2nd part of the protocol soon, I promise).

In his book Healing and Recovery David R.Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D, brilliantly explains
how we get depressed, become alcoholics, get cancer, etc. and gives insightful
information about reversing the problem.

Below are a few quotes from his book.

Enjoy!

"An interesting study published in the January 1987 issue of Brain-Mind

Bulletin entitled "Expectancies; What You See Is What They Give You. Research by
Princeton University showed that self-fulfilling prophecy is just that, and what we
actively believe tends to manifest in our behavior and in that of others.

The body is at the effect of what is held in mind. If we want to know whot we are
holding in mind (pg. 47). If we want to know what we are holding in mind, all we
have to do is look at what is going on in the body and observe the behavior, which
tells us what we believe. If we look back into our memory, we often will not be able to
recall that we had any such belief system, or that we thought it applied to us. The fact
that it is in our life tell us that it must have been there somewhere in the personal or
collective unconscious.

The most common example of this occurs in people who are allergic and say, "Well, I
didn't have any belief in allergies. I didn't bring this into my life consciously." Yet, if
we go back into their childhoods, almost invariably we find that the belief system and
allergies occurred very early in life, usually at ages two or three. The little child picks
up a remark by someone in the family such as, "Allergies run in our family." The
minute the child's mind hears this, buys it, and, of course, believes it, it becomes an
operative program.

We are subject to what we hold in mind, so what does that mean? What is the nature
of illness itself? We see, first of all, it is that of pain and suffering. Consequently, it
is obvious and merely common sense that illness is an expression of pain and
suffering.

As a sick person, we view ourself as a victim of the disease. Therefore, it is important

to realize that there is the illness, and there is the person who has the illness. We then
understand that the person who has that illness needs to change in order for it to
disappear.

All the negative energy fields are based on placing the source of our happiness
externally. This results in being vulnerable and also being the potential, hopeless
victim. Being the victim means perceiving a cause as being outside
ourself. Therefore, the vulnerability to depression is present as long as we think the
source of our happiness is something outside ourselves.

The common frailty of human consciousness is to make happiness dependent upon

externals such as saying, "Well, when I get that degree, then I'll be successful and
happy,"

People in hopelessness cannot help themselves, and we have to pour energy into them
to even move them up to the energy field of Grief...

...If we could pour energy into her up to the level of Grief, suddenly she would begin
to cry. The expression of that emotion would indicate to us that she is getting better.

Interestingly, these two energy states come out of the failure to face the energy filed
that lies just above it, which is Fear...

The downside affects us negatively; in contrast, the upside can be very constructive in
our lives. We generally experience fear in ordinary life as worry, anxiety, and panic,
but eventually, it can escalate to become paralyzing terror.

Grief has to do with the past, and fear has to do with the future.

We can move a person out of Fear and up to the next energy field called Desire...

This can eventually become an obsession or compulsion. We then call it an

addiction because the process going on in consciousness is one of entrapment... A
person becomes entrapped and is at the effect of that level and run be the desire. It
takes on the intensity of craving, which in turn becomes associated with an inner
image. To recover from addiction, it is necessary to eliminate an attractive image the
moment it emerges in the mind...

It is the purpose of the marketing industry, of course, to take advantage of our desire
by creating wanting and craving to get us entrapped so we will want their products.

The mind has enormous power over every aspect of the body's functions, right down
to the smallest molecule and atom. It has been discovered that every atom and every
molecule within the body is influenced by consciousness levels and beliefs. Every
physiological and chemical transaction that goes on in the body is the result of a
blueprint of it within consciousness. All of them can be changed by changing
consciousness.

I watched my body chemistry literally change as I began to change what I was

holding about it within my mind and consciousness. The basic principle essential to
healing from all illnesses no matter what they are, is that we are primarily only
subject to what we hold in mind"
Notes on Letting Go by David R Hawkins
August 28, 2016

In the calendar year of 2015 I went through the following life experiences:

 I started a new job.

 I changed teams at that new company and have scope of responsibility increase
dramatically.
 I met a nice beautiful lady.
 That nice beautiful lady and I moved in to a new home together.
 I moved cross the country and left my beloved New York City for the canyons
and sun of Los Angeles, California.

Thinking about all of those events, I can say that while it wasn't too much, it was a lot of
change to manage. What I experienced was that these changes disrupted my routines,
put me outside of my comfort zone, and ultimately invoked me to ask whether existing
routines and frameworks previously used to rule my life were obsolete. Where I once
found solace in several habits and routines, I no longer found myself able to:

 meditate regularly first thing in the morning

 write frequently
 create podcast episodes and audio stories with project partners
 schedule 'no email focus time' at work for the first two hours of the morning on
the east coast and schedule meetings with west coast teammates in the afternoon
 rely on the same friends to round up for dinner on Friday evening
 use my subway commute in NYC to ease into the work day with music of my
choice

I found myself on an airplane most weeks of the month than not, learning to work daily
with a team on both coasts, and carving out space for two instead of one in my day.

Eventually I did make some very conscious decisions to ease the change like easing
back on the blog and writing time in order to give myself more time to play and become
part of a community in my new home, dedicate time to create new experiences with my
girlfriend, and switch to receiving my news through podcasts in the morning instead of
my phone so that I could reduce strain on my eyes knowing that the day would be long
and include much more inflow than my previous job.

However, the change with the most impact has come from David R Hawkin's Letting
Go: The Pathway of Surrender, which my friend recently gave to me. I am not even
finished with the book and I feel compelled to document my notes so that I can further
cement my takeaways in my memory (very bad rule writing notes on a book you haven't
finished. Doing it anyway!)

Dr. Hawkins' book is not too dissimilar from what I learned in Vipassana meditation
retreats, so I found the approach to be very familiar and easy to access. The first third of
Letting Go is an exposition on the art of letting go and how to relieve oneself from the
strain of negativity. Very similar to inspirational t-shirts and Instagram posts with nice
fonts fitting for a Sunday morning with pour over coffee. But more interesting is the
work Hawkins spends on diving into very specific emotions. He takes 30 - 50 pages to
thoroughly describe apathy, depression, grief, fear, desire, anger, pride, courage,
acceptance, love, and peace. These emotions construct a spectrum of emotions or
mental mechanisms. In other words, these emotions are how we choose to handle
experiences through "suppression, expression, and escape."

Some choice passages that don't need explanation:

The reason to let go of selfishness is not because of guilt. Not because it's a 'sin.'
Not because it's 'wrong.' All such motivations come from lower consciousness and
self-judgment. Rather, the reason to let go of selfishness is simply because it is
impractical. It doesn't work. It's too costly. It consumes too much energy. It
delays the accomplishment of our goals and the realization of our wants. Because
of its very nature, the small self is the creator of guilt and its self perpetuator;
that is, out of guilt we strive to accomplish and achieve success. Then, when we
achieve success, we feel guilty because we have it. There is no winning of the
guilt game. The only solution is to give it up, to let it go.

The general progression of the levels of consciousness, as we go from the lowest

to the highest, is to move from havingness to doingness to beingness. At the lower
levels of consciousness, it is what we have that counts. It is what we have that we
want. It is what we have that we value. It is what we have that gives us our self-
image of worth and position in the world.

Actually, the way something comes into our life is because we have chosen it. It
was the result of our intention, or we made a decision for it. It has come into our
life in spite of desire. The desiring was actually the obstacle to its achievement or
acquisition. This is because desire literally means, 'Id o not have.' In other words,
if we say that we desire something, we are saying that it isn't ours. When we say
that it isn't ours, we put a psychic distance between ourselves and what we want.
This distance becomes the obstacle that consumes energy.

In looking at fears, then, it is well to remember that Carl Jung saw this reservoir
of the forbidden inside the shadow as a part of the collective unconscious. The
term collective unconscious means that everybody has these thoughts and
fantasies. There is nothing unique about any of us when it comes to the way we
symbolize our emotions. Everybody secretly harbors the fear that they are dumb,
ugly, unlovable, and a failure.

Glamorization is living at a fantasy level...because there was no reality in it, the

world is constantly selling us dishonest, catering to our desire for that romantic,
glamorized aspect. it promises to make us more important than we really are.
Glamour at that level of dishonesty is a fake.

If we constantly follow this procedure, we will come to the awareness that

everyone in our life is acting as a mirror. They are really reflecting back to us
what we have failed to acknowledge within ourselves. They are forcing us to look
at what needs to be addressed. What aspect of our smaller self needs to be
relinquished? This means that we have to constantly let go of our pride in order
to undo anger, so that we can be grateful for the continual opportunities of
growth with which we are presented in the course of everyday experience.

While Letting Go has not actually led to any tangible changes in my day (yet), spending
time with this book has been enough for me to 'jump the hurdle' from 2015's shakeup
and allow me to land well into 2016. Whatever that means.
The Simple Tools of David Hawkins... and more

David R. Hawkins is a modern mystic and spiritual teacher. I have referred to

him many times on my blog, because I believe that there are no more profound
spiritual teachings around today, than his. One of their greatest strengths lies in
the teachings' practical simplicity.

It is easy to misread what Hawkins writes, especially if you don’t have much
experience in doing spiritual self-work. But anyone who has explored the
spiritual dimensions of mind with a true intention will readily recognise many
of the truths contained in them.

Some people get caught up in arguing the merits of Hawkins’ claims to be able
to calibrate (measure) levels of consciousness. He says that by using muscle
kinesiology he can give a numerical value to any given teaching, teacher or
concept. Scientific testing fails to back up this claim, but I believe that it would
be a mistake to dismiss Hawkins’ writings based purely upon this single issue.
There is simply so much profound wisdom contained in his writings that any
genuine spiritual devotee will deride great benefit from them.

In Transcending the Levels of Consciousness there is a very simple but

profound summary of the qualities and attitudes required to make spiritual
“progress” (progress is something of a misnomer, but I won’t go into that here).
Hawkins points out that what is required on the journey is really very simple.
One can be led astray by constantly learning more, becoming more
knowledgeable, becoming more clever, more full. However, genuine
transcendence requires an emptying, a letting go. This is where we tend to run
into trouble, as the mind prefers to stay in control.

Here are the ten tools which Hawkins refers to:

1. Be kind to everything and everyone, including oneself, all the time, with no
exception.
2. Revere all of life in all its expressions, no matter what, even if one does not
understand it.
3. Presume no actual reliable knowledge of anything at all. Ask God to reveal its
meaning.
4. Intend to see the hidden beauty of all that exists – it then reveals itself.
5. Forgive everything that is witnessed and experienced, no matter what.
Remember Christ, Buddha, and Krishna all said that all error is due to
ignorance. Socrates said all men can choose only what they believe to be the
good.
6. Approach all of life with humility and be willing to surrender all possibilities
and mental/emotional arguments or gain.
7. Be willing to forgo all perceptions of gain, desire, or profit and thereby be
willing to be of selfless service to life in all its expressions.
8. Make one’s life a living prayer by intention, alignment, humility, and surrender.
True spiritual reality is actually a way of being in the world.
9. By verification, confirm the levels of consciousness and spiritual truth of all
teachers, teachings, spiritual groups, and literature with which one intends to be
aligned or a student.
10. Accept that by spiritual declaration, commitment, and surrender, Knowingness
arises that provides support, information, and all that is needed for the entire
journey. (Hawkins, Transcending, pp. 335-336).

You’ll recognise these as being part of many of the world’s great spiritual and
religious teachings. Besides their remarkable simplicity, it interesting to note
the contrast of these ideas when compared with modern dominant cultures in
developed countries, where the idea of being opinionated, powerful, controlling,
forceful, and knowledgeable, dominates the harsh patriarchal societies right
across the globe (i.e., you better be man, or at least act like one). Humility and
the admission of “not knowing” are rarely valued.
The other notable aspect of Hawkins’ list is item number nine, which is his
exortation to confirm the spiritual truth or level of consciousness of a teaching
or pathway before engaging it. There are a number of ways to do this, and I’ll
just mention a few.

Exercise kinesiology is one which Hawkin’s champions for those still operating
at the middling “rational” levels of cognitive development, where discerning
truth from falsehood is extremely difficult. However, this tool may not be
preferred by many. In Sage of Synchronicity I refer to another method called
the Quick Check, which involves running a hand across a horizontal line on a
page, and getting a reading of the consciousness level of a teacher/teaching,
from zero to one hundred percent. This tool was taught to me by teachers in
New Zealand a decade ago.

Numerous other divination methods are also possible; but one obvious tool is
being able to quiet the mind and get an intuitive sense of whether the teaching is
“OK” or “not OK” for you. Then, considering that we are all-too-fallible, after
beginning to engage in that particular path, we should be alert for signs ego-
dominated thinking or behaviour permeating the teaching or teacher. The most
obvious signs are an over-inflated ego, attempting to inflate the ego of the
student, or promising (or practicing) miracles. Even if the miraculous is
performed, if it is used to attract followers, then it is an abuse of power.

Returning to Hawkins’ list, one domain missing, and which he writes little about
is handling the emotional energy which emerges from the psyche as one
deepens one’s awareness. Perhaps Hawkins’ did not have to deal with too much
damaged emotional baggage in his time (he’s now in his 80s), but most of us
will. The key is to allow the fear, grief, anger, shame and ego projections to
express themselves in a healthy way. This means allowing a space in your life for
opening the channel to the deep feelings to surface.

I recommend making a special space in your home where you can beat a pillow,
scream into it, or just release grief when it surfaces. On days where the emotions
begin to rise, you can spend some time alone there. A music system is
recommended, to play music which matches the required mood (sad songs if
you need to release grief, perhaps heavy metal if you want to release anger, and
so on). The second use of music is simply to drown out any sound you might
make, in case you feel uncomfortable allowing others to hear what you are
doing. Nonetheless, if you are living with others, you will probably have to at
least give them a general idea of what you are doing.

When it comes to spiritual development, simplicity is best.

How to Let Go
Listen to the podcast of this page.

The Letting Go technique is simple. It’s so simple you may dismiss it’s incredible
power. If you catch yourself doing this, let go.

All you need to let go is an emotion, a negative one. This feeling is attached to many
thoughts, perhaps a story or a dozen similar experiences. However it presents, the
overall energy, is negative.

1. Identify a negative feeling.

Now quiet your mind and there are many ways to do this. Here are a few suggestions
that have worked for me. Thoughts are not helpful in the letting go process except to
alert you into the process.

2. Clear away all thoughts.

Focus quietly on the feeling. Breathe into the sensations and allow them to be. Here all
you do is breathe and accept the feeling inside you. It doesn’t matter where you are
(home, work, driving, having coffee with a friend) just go from unconscious breathing
to conscious. The sensations may be very uncomfortable. That’s ok. Just breathe and
allow the feelings to be where they are. Let go the need to give the feeling a name. I
like the general word, sensations. You may notice these sensations begin somewhere
specific in your body and you may discover they are everywhere. Simply breathe and
allow.
3. Breathe into the sensations and allow them to be.

Your willingness to accept the sensations may intensify them. This is ok too. Keep
breathing and allowing. Thoughts are not required. With your breath, create an
intention to accept what’s happening inside you. Breathing into the sensations releases
your resistance. It’s the resistance that is causing you pain. It’s your thoughts about the
pain that keep you stuck and unwilling to let go. Your willingness to let go thinking
and accept what’s happening is your ticket to inner freedom. Each time you sense a
disruption inside, turn down the volume on the thoughts, breathe into the sensations and
allow them to be. This is all you need do to let go. Simple. The challenge comes in
being vigilant with letting go all negativity – no exceptions. Including your favourite
wound reserved for social settings. Of course that story gets you attention! It will even
tell you, “you’re not interesting” without it. Let go the sensations around social
acceptance or whatever comes up.

4. Repeat when necessary.

Letting Go for Everyone

For fun, imagine a world where all the people have let go. You are surrounded by
delightful, creative, deeply loving and authentic friends. Nobody has hang-ups or low
self-esteem. When life gives them lemons they seek the lesson instead of lemon-
ting. When they let go a crisis all that’s left inside is a harmless, concluding statement,
“Well that happened and I made it.” This world of burden-less people live
fearlessly. They are full of energy. (Note: If you sense any resistance around
visualizing this world where people have let go, stop reading and let go now). All it
takes to create a world like this is for one person to be willing to let go. When you do,
others will sense your courage and be inspired to do the same.
