Bullying, Depression, and Suicidal Ideation among Adolescents in Saint Louis College
–Roma Ringor

In this study, we will evaluate the association of bullying with suicidal ideation among
adolescent students and investigate whether this association varied in relation to the
presence of depression. All participants will complete an adolescent health status
questionnaire. Three categories of bullying were assessed: perpetration, victimization, and
both (victimization and perpetration).

We will categorize the high school students of Saint Louis College in three groups as
high school students, junior high school students, and senior high school students. Wherein,
we will use a simple random sampling method to choose 2 classes from each group. During
class time, students were asked to fill out self-administered questionnaires anonymously in
the absence of school teachers to avoid information bias. In each class, we will arrange 2
investigators to administer the questionnaire to supervise the survey, and collect the data
afterwards.

To analyze all data, we will be using SPSS software. We will univariate and
multivariate logistic models to evaluate associations of demographic characteristics with
suicidal ideation. To investigate whether the association between bullying and suicidal
ideation differs between students with and without depression, we will test the interaction
factors of bullying and depression. Finally, we will perform subgroup analyses to measure the
relationship of bullying with suicidal ideation in students with or without depression.

After analyzing the data, we will interpret if that all 3 forms of being involved in
bullying (perpetration, victimization, and both) are independently associated with increased
risk of suicidal ideation. Furthermore, we will also consider if there was a significant
interaction between depression and bullying, suggesting that depression may modify the
influence of bullying on suicidal ideation.
