India on May 6, 1948. He is the
sixth of their nine children. His
siblings are Ammini, Marykutty,
Pastor P. J. Mathew, John Kurian,
P. J. Oommen, Pastor Jacob
John, Pastor Roy Poovakkala,
and Susamma.
Bai accepted Jesus Christ
as his personal Savior as a
young man and was baptized
soon after. Ever since he had
a great passion for sharing the
gospel. As a young man he used
to meet up with his friends in
Kolathumala, a small hill near
his house for prayer. Also they
used to proclaim the word of God
in and around Anjilithanam. He
was a spiritual guide to many

Anjilithanam High School in
Thiruvalla and went to Bhopal to
further his studies. He graduated
from Bhopal University in 1975
where he received his Bachelor
of Science degree in Botany,
Zoology and Geology. His desire
to serve the Lord started from a
very young age and even while
in Bhopal, Bai went from door to
door to share the gospel.
On January 30, 1975 Bai
married Kunjamma Thomas
in Anjilithanam. In 1976 the
young couple departed Kerala
to join family in Des Moines,
Iowa where in January of 1979
the Lord blessed them with a
beautiful daughter, Roxy. The
following year they moved to
Houston, Texas and was blessed
with a handsome son, Jobbins, in
July of 1981. Bai and Kunjamma
have called Houston home for
the past 38 years, where Bai
pursued a successful career at
Verizon and Kunjamma worked
as a Registered Nurse.

throughout his struggle he praised
the Lord with every breath – until
he could no longer speak. Slowly,
his brain started to atrophy and

birthday and was welcomed into
the loving arms of his heavenly
father.

be remembered fondly by family
and friends alike as a loving
husband, father, grandfather,
brother, uncle and friend. Bai
lived an exemplary life and his
belief in God and for God’s
word was unshakable and made
evident by his every action. His
unwavering faith in Jesus Christ
has enabled people both near
and far to find salvation and
to secure their eternity. Bai
embodied the life of Christ in all
of his ways and leaves behind
an imprint and legacy that will
remain in the hearts and lives of
all he encountered. His loving
smile, vivacious laugh, and
signature backslap brought joy
and happiness to all who crossed

My brother Baiachayan was a zealous man of God. He was a man of discipline.
Steadfast and powerful prayer, spirit filled life, passianate evangelism and deep love
for family were his trademark.
His contributions to the Indian Pentecostal church of God in USA and India are mile
stones in Pentecostal history. He remains an inspiration and a true example to the younger
generation. Through him God has shown us how much he can use a man if he humble
himself, leaning on God’s abundant grace. During my journey to USA, he has helped
me a lot. He has also contributed for building IPC prayer centre Church, Thiruvalla.
As for me and my family, we have lost our brother. But I firmly believe that when the trumpet blows, I will
see him in glory.

It has only been 6 months since my family moved to
Houston to serve as the Senior Pastor at IPC Hebron
Houston. But in this short time, I have had several
instances to spent time in prayer with dear Bai uncle
at the Nursing Home. He most likely, might never know
me, but I truly consider it an honor and privilege to
have known him. He and his family continue to be an
integral part of the IPC Hebron family since its early
years of inception. We as a church family stand alongside dear Kunjamma aunty,
and the families of their children Roxy and Jobbins in this time of grief. Hope
in Christ is our pathway through times of grief. May the peace that passeth all
understanding fill the hearts of those grieving, with comfort and strength. Shalom!

It is with mixed feelings that I share my memories of
dear Baichayan. I have had the privilege to know him
since the time I moved to Houston in 2006. Even while
pastoring at Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, I was able
to build a strong relationship with this man of God. It
is indeed with a grateful heart for me to say that he
played a very influential role in my pastoral ministry
in Houston. He had a spirit of encouragement. I was
blessed to be a recipient of his missional heart to inspire others to have a mind of
Christ. Later on, I was blessed to be his pastor at IPC Hebron from 2012. When
Apostle Paul writes to the Romans, he says, “nothing can separate us from the
love of God”. Baichayan literally lived this in his life, and never let anything stand
in the way of his love and passion for Christ. I was able to visit him at the Nursing
Home many at times and spent time in prayer. His family, dear Kunjammamma,
and their children Roxy, her husband Roby and Henry, as well as Jobbins, his
wife Teena and Madiyson are dear to me and my wife Mercy. As I often say, his
passing away brings lot of grief; but at the same time much joy to know where he
is now. We do not mourn the loss, because we know where he will be found. My
wife Mercy, my children Luke and Lydia and I express our sincere condolences
with the hope in Christ that we will see him on the other shore at the very near
future. May I also share words of comfort on behalf of Christian Assembly of
Houston, where I currently serve as the Senior Pastor. Dear Kunjamma Aunty’s
brother (Kunjumon Achayan) and family are members of our church. Bai uncle will
not only be missed by those in Houston, but also by the extended family spread
across IPC Midwest region at large. I pray God’s peace to rest with the family
during these difficult times.

Baichayan was a compulsive, unwavering evangelist who

prayer which strives on seeking souls for God’s Kingdom.

strong in the way he battled Alzheimer’s. He was always
greatly loved, respected and admired by all of us. Since
I’ve known him from childhood, I know his loving and

The first memory of Bai uncle that I can remember is him
wearing plaid suits while banging away on the church drums
during worship services at IPC in Houston.
One year he became our Sunday School teacher and he
spent most of the year talking about the ark of the covenant
and God’s temple in the Old Testament. Little did I know
then that he was teaching some great truth. Later on, he
would buy the biggest house I had ever seen as a kid. It had two staircases, pink
carpet, and pink blinds. We were in awe. A few years later, when my father and
mother bought their next home, guess what color we put for the carpets and
blinds – PINK! It was beautiful.
In John 11, Jesus said “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes
in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will
never die.” Bai uncle will be greatly missed, especially his laughter and smile, but
one day soon we will see him again! I look forward to that day.

John P. Thomas, Baichayan is what I lovingly call him.
I have had the privilege of knowing Baichayan closely after
my family moved to Houston in the 1980s. . In the last 30
some years I have known him, he was a friend, an elder
brother and a spiritual guide.
Our IPC Hebron church back in 1980s was in
Northshore, Poovakala loved ones, especially Baichayan,
would take the time to give our family ride from Stafford to
Northshore every Sunday in the beginning period of our life in Houston.
The prayer meeting continues to have the name “Bai Brother’s meeting”
although someone else took the leadership when he was not feeling well anymore.
When you think of Baichayan, you will instantly remember his contagious and
innocent smile. He will definitely be missed; but we know that we will see Baichayan
on the other shore. As I continually remember the memories and times I have spent
with Baichayan, I encourage you to use his life as an example in your spiritual life.

Bhai was a man of God who worked hard for the
extension of the kingdom of God. Bhai is my cousin. We
planned to start a ministry together in 2005, and as a result
I started Carmel Bible College in Pathankot, Punjab under the
leadership of Pastor Jacob John. He supported the Bible
College and charity work in Punjab. Last 12 years almost
250 students Graduated from the Bible College and working
in different cities and states in North India winning souls for the kingdom of God.
We lost one of my great supporters for the ministry in Punjab. We lost
a prayer warrior, cheer full giver, and God’s faith full servant, even though he is
absent from this earth, he is present with God. He is in a better place. Our heart

I am quite thrilled to write few words about my first cousin
Br. John Thomas (Bai) who entered in to his eternal glory.
We didn’t know each other much in our childhood as I left
Kerala when he was only 10. It was after long years, we
met again in Houston and we were neighbors and members
of the same Church. Later we become close friends and
I saw his lifestyle of simplicity and compassion towards
the needy. He was a strong believer in the words of our Lord “ It is more blessed
to give than to receive”. He didn’t want to do anything to justify himself before
others but always believed “ God knows your heart and what is highly valued
among men is detestable in God’s sight”.
There are so many experiences I had with him and I thank God for the unknown
legacy he left behind. He was not a famous person, didn’t have a PhD or degrees
in Theology, but he knew the love of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ which he
shared and gave it free until he was sick. I am very sure that he is resting now
and he will rise to receive his allotted inheritance.

Br. John Thomas, who Is lovingly known as Bai (Achayan/
Uncle) to Houstonians will be dearly missed. His passion to
see a spiritual awakening in Houston is well known by this

He fought the good fight, finished his race, kept his faith

joy in his face to spend time, energy and resources for the
