Surrealism:

Started: 1924
Finished: 1966
The Surrealist artists sought to show the unconscious as a means to unlock the
power of the imagination. That style was influenced by psychoanalysis.
The surrealist artist despised for the rationalism and literary realism. The
Surrealists believed the rational mind repressed the power of the imagination. They
believed that revelations could be found on the street and in everyday life.
Several Surrealists painted in crisp detail and with the illusion of three-
dimensionality, emphasizing their dream. The color in these works was often
saturated by Dalí or monochromatic by Tanguy, both choices conveying a dream
state.

Impressionism:
Started: 1869
Finished: 1892
Its originators were artists who rejected the official, government-sanctioned
exhibitions, or salons, and were consequently shunned by powerful academic art
institutions.
Claude Monet is probably the best loved of all the Impressionist painters, and he
was certainly the most influential. His paintings attempting to capture the fleeting
effects of sunlight at different times of the day and in various environments are still
captivating nearly 100 years after his death. If anything, in our era of visual
overload, the freshness of how Monet saw the world is even more striking.
