Abraham J Briloff

Abraham Jacob Briloff is one of the most famous accounting expert in the world, also known as
the Legend of Accounting. He was an American accounting scholar, long term working with
Barron, a famous Financial Investment New – Stock Investing News, also an accounting
Professor at Baruch College in Manhattan, New York.

Background: Abraham Jacob Briloff was born on July 19, 1917 in New York city to parents who
are immigrants from Russia, Benjamin and Anna Briloff. He was suppose to choose to become a
lawer or doctor in school but based on his financial situation, becoming a Ceritified Public
Accountant was the best choice. He enrolled the School of Business and Civic Administration
(previous name of Baruch College) and graduated with a degree of comerce in 1937. Mr. Briloff
begin his career as a high school training teacher, teaching accountancy, also a part-time
assistand accountant in Apfel & Englander, in 1944 he became partner of the firm. In 1951, Mr.
Briloff left Apfel & Englander and start his own firm. Abraham Briloff received his doctorate in
1965 with the thesis title “The Effectiveness of Accounting Communication”, then also become
full time professor at The City College of New York, now wells known as Bernard M. Baruch
College of the City University of New York.

For over more than 60 years, he was the consciences of the accounting profession, always try to
improve the ethic of accountant. Always motivated by the best interest for professional
accountant. Through his lifetime, Mr. Briloff has published many significant number of article,
books and scholar, most on trusts, pension planning and estate planning. Some of his article
often caused an immidiate impact in stock prices. He wells known as on the of most ethic
accountant whom always try to make accounting profession become independent and
trustiness.

He died in Dec 12, 2013, at age of 97, at his home in Great Neck, NY where he has been living
for his whole life.

 Honorary doctorate from Binghamton University (1984).
 American Accounting Association’s Accounting Exemplar Award (1995).
