Volleyball is considered as a team sport which is composed by 2 teams

separated by a net, and each team is consist of 6-10 players that includes the main

players and the reserved players.

On feb. 9,1895 in Massachusetts, a YMCA physical education director namely

William G, Morgan, created a ball game called mintonette that is derived from

“badminton”. This sport was created as an indoor game that can be played by any

number of players. The first rules written down by morgan was consist of, the net should

be 6ft x 6in. and the players should keep the ball lifted especially when it id thrown out

to their own side of the court and hitting a ball into the net was considered as foul

except in the case of first try serve.

While watching the first exhibition match in 1986 at the Spring Field College,

Alfred Halstead noticed the volleying nature of the game. That’s why the mintonette was

changed in to Volleyball that was originally spelled out with two words. Further more the

rules of the game was also modified by the international YMCA Training School.

The first official ball used in volleyball is disputed. Some sources says that

Spalding created the first official ball in 1896, while others claimed that it was released

last 1900. IN 1916 Volleyball has reached the other parts of the globe including the
Philippines. However the rules also evolved over time. In addition to that the spike and

the power of the set has been introduced. In 1917 the scoring was changed from 25
