Part IV: Your Career Plan

In a complete paragraph, explain:
1) What career you are most interested in and why
I am most interested in becoming a book editor because I love books. I love both reading and writing
stories, and if I got to read books and help fix their writing then that would be my dream job. Also, it’s a stable
job that I would still enjoy to do because it changes all the time. I wouldn't be stuck doing the same thing
constantly, and would instead be able to change things up. I’d also be able to read new books or screenplays
before they get out to the public, which I think would be pretty cool.
2) Which career path you will pursue to enter this career
I will need to attend a four year college and then get an internship at a publishing company or any other
english based company in order to pursue this career. I will need to major in journalism, english, or
communications to best have a chance of getting an editing job. During my final year of college or directly
after I graduate I will begin pursuing internships so that I will be able to move up in the company in the years
following.
3) What you can/need to do while still in high school to prepare for this career and career path?
I need to work hard on my English skills and take high level english classes. As of right now I am taking
AP Language and am planning on taking AP Literature next year. Also, I am taking creative writing, which I also
took last year and am working on multiple writing projects that I can use in the future by continuing to work on
them. Finally, I am planning to take VHS classes on english and literature.
Parv V: Backup Plan
In a complete paragraph, explain what you can do if your plan does not work out. Consider the worst-case
scenarios: what if your parents lose their jobs and cannot help you pay for school? What if college turns out to
be more difficult than you thought and you fail? What if your family member(s) get sick and you have to help
take care of them, rather than pursuing your goals?

As of right now, I have a job at a restaurant, so I have some money saved up. If the worst case scenario
were to happen I would have a little money to live off of at first, but would soon need to find a career so I can
help my family. My mother works at BASF and would be able to help me get a job there that makes more
money than a waitress, but not enough to comfortably support my entire family. Then I would have the choice
of waiting to move up in the company or to move and follow my dreams by going to college to work with
english. If things were really bad, I would continue working at the company and would try to take classes at
night to pursue my dream career.
