POSITIONS
OFROOM
Christine Baernthaler has founded the OFROOM Innovation Agency to take action between
Industry and Architecture for the communication of innovative material and products. OFROOM
is organized as a plattform. The work includes publication, media cooperation, exhibitions,
lectureprogram, teaching, consulting, product development, coaching of pilotprojects and net-
working. The OFROOM Gallery shows a selection of front-end innovations and maintains an
international but very personal network to producers and innovators throughout Europe.
In 2015, OFROOM layed a focus on the theme „CONCRETE“. A special exhibition
was organized with more than 80 product/material samples, historical reinventions, up-to-date
research results, innovations by architects and a selection of new products on the market. The
exhibition was successfully shown in Vienna‘s Stadthalle at the Architect@Work fair, in Vor-
arlberg at the fair com:bau and is scheduled for Zurich in the Baumuster-Centrale for January-
March 2017. The exhibition was documented in the beton:book (out of print) and has resulted
into a web plattform for public access: http://beton.ofroom.net
OFROOM will present this exhibition as well as an outstanding lecture program at Stari
Banovci in September 2016 to lay the foundation for an annual Building Material Congress to-
gether with local partners and with changing focus.

Vladimir Macura is an art collector and museums director. He lives in Vienna and Novi Banovci.
There he has built the extraordinary Museum Macura. His private collection is set in context
with contemporary art in his exhibition program. Somewhere further north, in Stari Banovci he
manages a second location, Magacin Macura, it was once a storage for grain, then it became a
warehouse. Here - Vladimir Macura has opened a space for discussion, critique, examination
and experiment - in the silence and the beauty of the location, at the edge to the Danube river.
He lets his property become a place to encounter and become inspired.

Magacin Macura - will be the place where the venue of the 1st Building Material Congress will
take place in Serbia.
Vladimir Lovric is editor of the architectural magazine Eko Kuća - english: Eco House. Just
recently he celebrated his 20st issue and the five year jubilee. The magazine presents sustai-
nable Architecture with extraordinary Design, built with cutting edge knowledge. The projects
introduced in the magazine are from different locations all around the globe and it corresponds
to an international level. Vladimir Lovric does a remarkable work, in both, art direction of the
magazine as well as economical. He proofs a visionary position and goes a brave path towards a
future of responsible and thoughtful architecture. His work has also created a meaningful local
network that reaches into architecture, industry and art.

Eko Kuća is hub, network and media partner and takes local responsibility of the organization of
the 1st Building Material Congress in Serbia.

MOTIVATION
KNOW HOW TRANSFER
Serbia is in a formation phase. Political and economical harmonization with EU encourage to
meet with European player, strategies, tasks and technology. Buildings and structure will have
to adjust to a plan of sustainability, energysaving and a conservation of natural ressources.
Information and knowledge transfer (import) on ecological, „healthy“ and sustainable building
construction may influence present and future architecture in a future-proof and thus solid and
valuabel manner and good ratings.

The Building Material Congress has a layout of an annual venue and concentrates on the know-
how transfer on innovative building materials and constructions. The focus on defined material
groups allows profound insight in present and future development and represent the front-end of
European research and development. The congress offers the occasion to meet and approach, on
technical as well as economical level.

INCUBATOR
Introducing a selection of cutting edge innovation, R&D projects and new technologies give
impulses for ideas and applications. New technology leads to new development. Access to a new
network of innovators motivates exchange and cooperation.

Architecture is international and interdiciplinary creative industry, capeable to pick up any in-
formation and technology to think and generate something new.

Congress and exhibition will be a think-tank and meetingpoint for inspired architects, designers,
engineers and all people concerened with the building industry. New thoughts and projects will
result.

COOPERATION
The organizers of the congress are open for cooperations to enhance sustainable and valuable
architecture, inspired projects and international relations.

WORKSHOPS
IN KOOPERATION WITH THE
FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE
OF UNIVERSITY OF BELGRADE

Matthias Bauer

House 36 demonstrates a first monolithic fair-faced concrete building that also meets enginee-
ring demands. Performance of the insulation concrete „Technolith“ with glassfoam has been
stretched to it‘s limits. A learning process also with failures. Matthias Bauer will guide through
his eperiences in planing and application practice of insulation concrete and will also work out
the advantages of monolithic mineral buildings compared to EIFS Systems.

Georg Grasser

Foldable Concrete - material qualities, formlining and design are interrelated. A new, specific
concrete quality and method of manufacturing has been developed by Grasser Murero to meet
their design visions. In this workshop their technology will be applied. Students are invited, to
continue the process by finding new design options based on the techniques offered.

Mandred Berthold, Johannes Kirnbauer, Asynkron Architekten, xhochbau.h1

Mastermodul Experimenteller Hochbau, TU Wien - Concrete Canoe. A team of students and

assistant professors from TU Vienna have participated for the first time at the 2015 „Betonka-
nu Regatta“ in Germany - a competition exiciting for 30 years now. They won the 2nd price for
the category „construction“. The team will come to Stari Banovci, a canoe will be built in the
workshop with the application of ultra-high-performance concrete. In an intensive workshop, ex-
periences of the master class experimental construction will be shared with the participants. The
goal is to bring a new boat to water and celebrate a successful ride on the Danube.
Matthias Bauer MBA/S

In addition to his lecture, Matthias

Bauer will give an intensiv work-
shop on „Monolithic constructions in
concrete“. He will guide through his
eperiences in planing and application
practice of insulation concrete as a
set of parameters for a design pro-
cess. How does insulation meet with
structural performance? What are the
pro‘s to confirm a contractor‘s wish
for a monolithic building? Which
are the problems, how to deal with
difficult or unusual issues? How do
details work? The design workshop
will generate questions and answers.

Grasser Murero

Concrete is fashionable and has defi-

netly established in the design world.
It has become luxury to use concre-
te in design objects, furniture and
interior design. Grasser Murero have
taken concrete under an intensiv re-
search with a focus on stretching the
material‘s qualities to design novel-
ties in concrete. Successfully! The
workshop will give the opportunity
to learn from their experience and
work into new designs.
