PROBLEM STATEMENT:
There are so many trash cans installed in the city but how will the municipal
corporation come to know about the percentage of garbage filled in the trash
can and when it gets overloaded and when to come to collect the trash can
and which trash can in the city is getting used more and which is used less.
SOLUTION:
Here I am proposing my solution to reduce the chaos. In real world use case for
a smart city, a command center would monitor the amount of trash in and
around an area or city. The municipal department can optimise garbage pickup
timings and personnel required to send vehicles to pick up trash to designated
places while cutting down on expenses on fuel and vehicle emissions. Another
problem this project tackles is the quick replacement of trash can, in case they
fill and overflow onto side or streets. This innovative idea would lead to
reduced carbon footprint, lower greenhouse gas emissions and cleaner cities in
time.
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
1. Ultrasonic sensor (HC SR04)
2. Arduino Mega 2560
3. Bluetooth module (HC 05)
4. Wifi module( ESP 8266)
5. XAMPP which is an easy to install Apache distribution containing
MariaDB, PHP, and Perl
6. Mysql
IDEA:
The idea is to use an ultrasonic sensor interfaced with Arduino Mega 2560 for
sensing the proximity of objects to the brim of trash can; while the trash can
fills up. Now this microcontroller will interact with smart phone using
Bluetooth module and through wifi module it will interact with wifi module.
Using SQL database, data is stored onto the Laptop which now acts like a web
server. Data analytics is being done using a simple graph chart that charts out
the trash drop-in pattern and notifies the end user. It will show on the smart
phone how much the dustbin has been filled by looking at the databases.
