Note: You must read the following sections to complete the assignment: 2.1 – 2.7.

2.1, 2.2, 2.4, 2.5, 2.8*ab, 2.9, 2.10, 2.11, 2.12, 2.13, 2.14, 2.15, 2.16, 2.17, 2.18,
2.20, 2.21, 2,23, 2.25, 2.34, 2.39, 2.40abd, 2.43a, 2,45, 2.47, 2.48, 2.49abcd,

* referring to “Figure 2.1” in the textbook, for only a 5-bit 2C, the “largest” positive #
is 15. The “greatest magnitude” negative # is -16 in 5-bit 2C. Your challenge is 8-bit
2C in this problem.

assignment (this includes the Internet, Student Appendix, any form of solutions
manual) as this will be considered an act of plagiarism in this course. This assignment
is to be done individually and on your own. If you are in need of help, please come to
office hours or post questions via piazza.

How to Submit Electronically:

While, NO paper submissions will be accepted, I strongly suggest working out each
of the above problems by hand first. Close to the due date, we will release a canvas
quiz that you can input your answer to. While the canvas system will automatically
grade your work for this assignment, the grades (and solutions) will not be released
until after the late period ends. Once the canvas quiz is released, follow the steps
below to submit your work via canvas:

1) Navigate to the Canvas system: http://canvas.upenn.edu

2) Login using your PennKey and click on: Homework->HW01
3) Once you click on HW01, you will be prompted for the answers to the
questions above
4) If you make a mistake, you may resubmit only 1 time, after that no further
submissions will be allowed.

Please note: This isn’t a “quiz” it really is a HW assignment. The “quiz” feature in
canvas allows your HW to be graded automatically. Post to piazza to report any
common problems with the quiz if necessary.
