Early settlement of Mexico is believed to date back as early as 20,000 B.C.

It is presumed that

the Nomadic Paleo-Indian groups migrated from North America into Mexico. By 1500 B.C

lasting settlements were established due to resources such as corn, squash, and beans. Between

200 B.C and A.D 900 several societies began to emerge and developed their own written

languages along with the production of art and architecture. (nationsonline)

By the early sixteenth century the Spanish military traveled to North America and ventured into

Mexico in hopes of conquering central Mexico. The military expedition was led by Hernan

Cortes in 1519 and began in what is now present day Veracruz. By 1521, Spanish forces

conquered the Aztec empire and began colonization and Christianization (nationsonline)

The sixteenth and seventeenth centuries was a time for big changes in Mexico. Due to the

Spanish conquering central Mexico there were a lot of Spanish influences on politics as well

culture. There was also one important change that was brought to Mexico and that was

mercantilism. At that time Mexico was required to supply raw materials to Spain and then

Fast forward to September 16, 1810 which is now known as Mexican Independence Day was a

day of local revolt led by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. Hidalgo called for the end of Spanish rule,

equality, and redistribution of land. Hidalgo left his village with his followers behind him to fight

for what they believed in. A full war ensued which ultimately ended with independence.

There were many obstacles that were presented when trying to settle in Mexico. There was

invasion and war, but there was also the production of goods such as steel as well as natural
