To Whom It May Concern:

I reflect with great pleasure on my wonderful experiences with Ms. Lauren Salisbury as
my mentor for the past two years. Ms. Salisbury served as my mentor and program
assistant in the General Studies Writing program at Bowling Green State University in
both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.

Admittedly, when I first was told I would be placed with a mentor, I was initially closed
off to the notion due mainly to my prior years of experience in teaching first-year
composition, but my interactions with Ms. Salisbury are some of the best teaching
moments I can ask for as a learner and teacher. Her insights and knowledge about
teaching first-year composition courses proves to be of exceptional value to me as an
instructor of GSW 1110, GSW 1120, and ENG 2070. I constantly learn and grow as an
instructor because of her ability to encourage her mentees to continue exploring and
reflecting on pedagogical approaches, teaching styles, and teaching philosophies.

Ms. Salisbury and I meet on a regular basis to discuss challenges and reflect on
pedagogical strategies to assist in my journey as a writing instructor, colleague, and peer.
Her poise, sincerity, and ability to be an active listener are only some of the amazing
qualities that make her an excellent mentor. In the past, our weekly sessions always
included deep, but practical feedback that continues to help me improve in my
classrooms. She never hesitates to provide additional materials, resources, and options to
consider and I always leave our conversations feeling prepared to take on whatever
challenge is ahead.

Ms. Salisbury’s flexible approach to mentoring makes her a natural at putting people at
ease and giving advice that not only helps in the classroom, but beyond. No matter how
many questions I entered our sessions with, I left with more insights than I intended. She
listens to your concerns and questions, addresses any issues you may have, and is always
open to learning and growing with you through the process. She makes herself readily
available, encourages open communication, and continues to be a valuable ally as I
continue exploring my teaching style.

Ms. Salisbury is a considerate, knowledgeable, and reflective mentor that goes out of her
way to treat her mentees with respect. She is an amazing listener, adviser, and integral
part of my professional support system. I truly believe I would not have been nearly as
effective as an instructor my first year at Bowling Green State University if not for her
warmth and understanding.
I highly recommend Ms. Lauren Salisbury as a mentor. She is a valuable resource for any
mentee. If you have any further questions about Ms. Salisbury, please do not hesitate to
contact me via email or phone.

Sincerely,
